LouBrock, you are correct sir! Remember the playoffs? Tried to go 2 innings there! Even worse results! He is a one inning guy, maybe 4 outs! 6 outs is gonna be tough!

Haha!…It was something not for the faint of heart, Bikemike. Anytime I see a baseball game of the variety of the one I just witnessed, I can hear Red Barber saying, “baseball is only dull to dull minds”…

I will check out that pitch to Betts – sounds like we got away with one. I saw the highlight of the Gorman homer. Surprised they did not pitch him up in the zone – but then maybe they wanted to and the pitch was not located well.

<Oh, and I remember that jingle Harry would do in ‘69. /blockquote>

That 3rd strike call for the final out was summed up by the legendary Bill Klem…”It ain’t nuthin’ until I call it”…

Maybe the Redbird field manager left Helsley in there to improve the Cardinal’s W/L record in 1 run games, which now stands at 3-8 on the season. I still say he should have been gone 3 weeks ago, if not sooner.

With the only exception being the first 3 hitters he faced in the 6th, today’s game was an outstanding turn by Mikolas.

Gorman now .302/13/39 with .640 SLG, 1.031 OPS and leads the team in all 5 categories.

I remember listening to Caray call a genuine free for all between the ’68 Cardinals and Reds…”And now here comes Cepeda and Cha Cha’s got ahold of Abernathy and is really letting him have it!…Ohhh, boy!” About a week later the Redbird 1B’man was mired in a hitting slump and during one of Cepeda’s AB’s Harry said, “Looks like that thumb may still be bothering him from all those shots he laid on Abernathy’s coconut”…Haha!

Edit on the above comment…The pitcher Cepeda had hold of was Bob Lee and the war took place in ’67. There were several players injured in that melee and it’s even claimed by some that the Cincinnati PD intervened to help to restore order.

This has been one damned strange season for the Cardinals so far….

Remember the 2010 brawl between the Csrds and Reds? Reds ace pitcher Johnny Cueto was suspended for fighting like girl.
The only Cardinal injured badly by his kicking was former Red Jason Larue.

I remember Brandon Phillips tapping his bat on Yadier Molina’s shin pads and almost receiving a face full of fist.
