6:15 p.m.
RHP Miles Mikolas (2-1, 4.91) vs. RHP Noah Syndergaard (1-3, 5.94)
FOX // KMOX // WIJRMay 20, 2023 at 9:04 am #221265Be nice to secure a series split tonight.
Jarring to go from 16 runs one night to 0 the next.
May 20, 2023 at 10:56 am #221266Well, what will it be tonight, feast or famine? A fun-filled bashfest or another two-hit 0000-limp stick show? I’d say with Kershaw on the horizon tomorrow we’d better seize the split while we can.
I’ll do my part for the feast with salmon baked in a pastry covered with a tarragon mustard cream sauce and a side of fresh garden peas, all washed down with a glass or two of Burgundy Chardonnay and finishing with a little old-fashioned rice pudding with raisins and cinnamon.
May 20, 2023 at 10:58 am #221267Din din today will be a couple of hamburgers at the ballgame. The Tecumseh Braves are at the Jasper Wildcats today. First pitch 1:00 est.
Then later tonight me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch for the Dodgers/Cardinals game. Along with a couple of Palma Real 6×50 cigars. They won’t let me smoke cigars at the Jasper games.

May 20, 2023 at 11:43 am #221268We have a starter ERA advantage today, 4.91 vs 5.94. Yesterday it was a big disadvantage, 5.62 vs 1.42.
I want to see 7 IP minimum. No more mamby pamby 5 inning starts.
May 20, 2023 at 1:01 pm #221281Mikolas was the last Cardinal pitcher to be credited with a CG. He was the losing pitcher of decision in a Redbird 2-1 loss at Tampa on June 9th of last season. He worked 8 IP’ed in that game and was credited with a CG loss. He also worked 8.2 IP’ed vs. the Pirates 5 days later on his next turn in StL. on June 14th in which he was 1 out shy of a no hitter until he allowed a 2 out double in the 9th. The final was a 9-1 Redbird win with the lone Pirate run crossing HP as a result of an E-7 in the 4th inning. Who committed the “Das Boot” you may ask? None other than everyone’s favorite oven-mitted friend, Juan Yepez…Haha!
At any rate, Mikolas has certainly displayed the ability to work deep into a game as he collected 11 turns last season in which he worked 7 or more IP’ed, and in 5 of those turns he worked at least 8 IP’ed.
May 20, 2023 at 2:42 pm #2212841. Lars Nootbaar (L) CF
2. Paul Goldschmidt (R) 1B
3. Nolan Gorman (L) DH
4. Nolan Arenado (R) 3B
5. Willson Contreras (R) C
6. Brendan Donovan (L) RF
7. Paul DeJong (R) SS
8. Alec Burleson (L) LF
9. Tommy Edman (S) 2BMay 20, 2023 at 2:53 pm #221285In a mild upset the Tecumseh Braves down the Jasper Wildcats by the score of 3-2 today at Ruxer Field in downtown Jasper. Quite the high school game. Jasper had 2nd and 3rd, one out, bottom of the 7th. But a popout to 3rd and a strikeout on a check swing secured the win for Tecumseh.
The high school tournament starts next week.

May 20, 2023 at 2:56 pm #221286And taking a gander at the out-of-town scoreboard this fine Saturday afternoon:
Yankees and Reds no score in the top of the 1st at Riverfront Stadium.
Cubs and Phillies scoreless in the top of the 1st at Veteran’s Stadium.
Brewers and Rays 0-0 in the top of the 1st down in Tampa.
Arizona and Pittsburgh no score in the top of the 1st at Three Rivers Stadium.

May 20, 2023 at 3:26 pm #221289I noticed that Walker hit a homer for Memphis yesterday, his first one in May. Its been a brutal month for him down there. The homer raised his SLG for May to .288 if that tells you anything. BA in the toilet. Its getting to be kind of extended for a slump, so I hope he’s working on stuff.
May 20, 2023 at 5:38 pm #221297Din-din’s a couple of heated salsiccias left over from the grill the other night placed on a toasted french bread baguette with a side of tater chips and an ice cold Coca Cola. Nuthin’ fancy, but it’s easy and I’m hungry!
May 20, 2023 at 5:39 pm #221298That’s too bad about Walker. Johnny should have dangled him out there when he still had some value…Haha!
May 20, 2023 at 5:48 pm #221299I hadn’t noticed until just now that this game’s being broadcast by FOX. I wonder who we’ll get for the PBP? Whoever it is, I’m entirely certain they won’t be as good as Caray. He may be the singlemost bright spot in an otherwise dismal first 46 games.
May 20, 2023 at 6:23 pm #221302A SP’er facing the Dodgers genuinely gets an instant baptism by fire with Betts and Freeman. He looks up from the mound, and there they are.
May 20, 2023 at 6:25 pm #221303The Nootz has been blistering the baseball without too much to show for it.
May 20, 2023 at 6:30 pm #221304NA missed it by 8 inches the schlep. Teach that guy to hit wouldya.
May 20, 2023 at 6:35 pm #221305And how many times have we seen him rip that first pitch fastball 360 ft. and foul? Get that guy a horsehide straightener.
May 20, 2023 at 6:44 pm #221307The Redbirds are the last man standing in the NLC today. All the other teams have added to the column on the right today.
May 20, 2023 at 6:46 pm #221308Nice RBI double from Burly…A precise illustration of an oppo gap plugger!
May 20, 2023 at 6:48 pm #221309Not sure on this one, but hoping they claim, “not enough evidence.”
May 20, 2023 at 6:49 pm #221310Nope…1 out, but moved him over.
May 20, 2023 at 6:50 pm #221311The Nootz gets it done with the sac-fly. Nice going!
May 20, 2023 at 6:56 pm #221313When Heyward steps in and positions himself, if I didn’t know who he was I’d think to myself, “This guy looks like he can hit.”
May 20, 2023 at 6:59 pm #221314Miles with a nice 3rd inning. I’d say that’s the way to approach a 3-0 lead.
May 20, 2023 at 7:02 pm #221315Mikolas at 39 pitches through 3. Who thinks he works 7 full?
