That umpire should be summarily fired and banished from Baseball.

With a 5 run lead, I’d genuinely rather see a lead-off tater hit into the upper deck than a lead-off BB…

Cardinal manager looks like he’s giving the HPU a sobriety test with that ink pen…

Umps can’t see home plate or the foul pole. Just make it up as you go, I guess.

Interesting that one of the the ESPN announcers said Cabrera got a called strike on the 3-0 pitch, only because the count was 3-0. And yes, savant shows it was a ball, the first bad strike call for the Cards tonight. Announcer said it would’ve been called a ball on an 0-2 count. Then they started talking about the human nature/element of it all and how umps are influenced by the situation into making calls that don’t always reflect accuracy. Basically, it was an indictment that umps suck. All the more reason to bring on the robos.

I would rather listen to fingernails on a chalkboard than watch Burleson play the OF.

They’ve called any 3-0 pitch a strike if it’s within shouting distance of the strike zone for what seems like 30 years now.

In his defense, the wind is blowing the ball around pretty good. But still, I hold my breath too.

Yeah, gscottar, that lazy fly ball for the 3rd out looked a little dicey to say the least.

Jnevel, with Burleson there is no defense. That is the problem.

Me too, I hate a walk in that situation. I forget the who/when details, but in the last year or so I heard a former pitcher saying they would get fined for a walk in that type of situation. I’m not sure it was a “formal” fine because that might not fly, but I think it was something like they had to make a $100 donation to the slush jar when that happened.

The one guy who knew for sure that “home run” was a foul ball was the hitter and he ran clear around the bases.. HAHA

Is it healthy to hold your breath and pause your heartbeat for 3 or 4 seconds?

But slug matters. And something about clarity. Just ask Mo.

I got a laugh watching him put his helmet back on in the dugout BEFORE the call was overturned.

Redbirds should make up good ground on the first 2 teams they have to hurdle on the long climb to the top, but no help from either KC or the O’s. That’s okay…as timing and fate would have it, starting tomorrow we get 3 games at home and a chance to pick up ground in the best manner available.

Arenado getting his mojo back! HR in each game of this series. But still got to get 6 more outs.

Yep 1td, umps have been getting some things wrong for a long time. I think it’s worse now, but who knows. It might just be we see it so much more with every game on TV with so many different cameras. But I think part of it with balls and strikes is the pitches are faster with more movement these days. It’s hard for a human to get it right consistently.

Regardless, the strike zone shouldn’t vary based who’s umping, what “his” strike zone is, what the count is, what the inning is, how loud the home fans are cheering, etc.

Hicks is in the game. But that’s ok, it’s a blowout. In other words, Hicks Time!

Yeah, you could see Nado emerging from the lull in his rip for the last few games. It’ll be nice to have both him and Goldy ripping the baseball vs. MIL.

Oh, I agree, Euro, but that 3-0 pitch hasn’t changed in a long time. For some odd reason, the HPU’s seem to feel like they can’t call it a ball unless it bounces twice on the cut out between the mound and HP…

I know 1td. Irks me to no end. I pretty much agreed with what the ESPN guys were saying.
