Been sneaking up on the tv watching our Cardinals this year. Awful start to the season. Bad pitching , stumbling bumbling defense and one inning of offense per game. Looks to me like more runs are being scored this year but not by us. Just watched us blow a 3 run lead. Nado just dingered so maybe some Mojo will start somewhere. Really starting to wonder about a few guys still playing this year. I think myself you have to at the least platoon with Contreras and some guys need to start playing. Or hit the highway.
May 6, 2023 at 2:56 pm #219311I’m hoping like a mad man.
We will see if Oli sends Adam out for the 6th, and if so, how it goes. 84 pitches.
May 6, 2023 at 2:57 pm #219312A fine potato by Arenado reignites hope for a Waino W.
May 6, 2023 at 3:00 pm #219313Adam out there. Dang, a two strike double. Verhagen getting loose. Now that guy scores and its 5-4, no outs. He’s done at 90 pitches.
May 6, 2023 at 3:05 pm #2193145 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 5 K. 90 pitches.
Well, lets be generous and call it an OKish start. 4 runs in 5 innings works out to 7.20 ERA.
Remember, the bar is low.
May 6, 2023 at 3:06 pm #219315Just tuned in after a day of the truck and myself being commandeered for pot soil hauling and flower bed planting duties by project superintendent, Mrs. 1TD. Wainwright’s line certainly doesn’t look spectacular, but it looks like he gave us a chance. Did he look like he’s got anything left?

IMO, its going to be rough. His control and uncle charlie were working for about 75 pitches. He was locating the slider pretty good. FB was 87ish. Whenever all that comes together he will do OK. When all that is not there he can’t just blow it by anyone. Careful use by a skilled manager would help.
May 6, 2023 at 3:22 pm #219317This is the scenario that gives me the heebie jeebies – Ollie and his hook.
May 6, 2023 at 3:24 pm #219318Thanks, Bling. Looks like he was really good through 4, but I can’t tell his pitch count at the point he ran into trouble in the 5th. At any rate, obviously he or anyone else is going to have to be able to work effectively for more that 4 innings. I started to say at lease we’ve got a lead, but a 1 run lead hasn’t been able to hold up since I can remember. We’ll see what happens.
May 6, 2023 at 3:28 pm #219319Whoa…Caught a break with the lousy piece of baserunning by Baez.
May 6, 2023 at 3:28 pm #219320Well, like I said, the bar is low.
Pen gave up the lead so its 5-5. We are making a terrible team look pretty good.
May 6, 2023 at 3:30 pm #219321His pitch count was pretty good through four. The 5th sent a lot of people to the plate.
May 6, 2023 at 3:31 pm #219322Wainwright gives up 4 through 5+.
Sorry that is nothing to write home about.
It’s amazing that he can pitch at this level at all at 41 but it’s not really going to help this team.
The rally squirrel might though, lol.
May 6, 2023 at 3:33 pm #219323So we basically just signed a guy to be our DH for five years and $87M when we have internal guys who can do it for the league minimum.
I can’t believe Marmol authorized that contract. Oh wait is that the chain of command?
May 6, 2023 at 3:39 pm #219325Edmonds just sold me.
Oquendo for manager!
Now!
May 6, 2023 at 3:44 pm #219328It’s choking time!!!
Let’s see if they can reverse this disturbing trend. They already continued the losing an opening game one.
Looks like keeping Stratton around was the best move they made in the off-season so far eh? Lol
May 6, 2023 at 3:50 pm #219331Interesting thought Oquendo for manager-wonder how he feels about that. I believe it was Philly that took off last year when they dumped their manager after a terrible start.

ParticipantA couple of bad calls while Adam was pitching didn’t help his outing. He had a strike me out throw me out that neither out was called. It led to allowing 3 runs that inning.

Yep, just like I said when people wanted him and then the Cardinals signed him, he can’t catch. And his defense has been awful. Not finding a way to get a deal done for Murphy and now they have 4 middle IF shuffling around, and I’ve lost track of the OF situation and what they are doing, but they have a catcher for 5 years who can’t catch.
May 6, 2023 at 3:52 pm #219334Both skippers managing their butts off.
Detroit isn’t a good team I don’t think yet – here we are locked in mortal combat with them….
May 6, 2023 at 3:54 pm #219336Edmond just destroyed the decision to pinch hit Edman for Donovan in this spot.
Explained it well.
Donovan probably draws that walk too.
May 6, 2023 at 3:55 pm #219337So here is my plan.
Oquendo for manager. Edmond as his bench coach.
I need suggestions for pitching coach because it is clear we need a new one of those too
May 6, 2023 at 3:56 pm #219338Oquendo has been passed over multiple times here for manager. Not sure they would go with him this time either.
May 6, 2023 at 4:00 pm #219339Unless he refuses the job – which he might – what have they got to lose at this point?
May 6, 2023 at 4:00 pm #219340Gallegos!!!!!
Crap!!!!!
Not again….
