When it comes down to counting on a 41 year old pitcher to right the ship…..

It means the club missed badly on evaluating / crystal balling almost every starting pitcher on the team for one reason or another.

Adam just has to be better than Woodford. Let’s hope for that.

If nothing else, keeping them in the game for his five innings. I didn’t look at the data, but it feels like they’ve given up a fair number of runs early and have to play from behind. Of course, the offense could also take some pressure off which they haven’t been consistently good at, either.

Being marginally better than Woodford really doesn’t help.

This team needs Wainwright to be really good as in a prototype #2 good and then hope Liberatore can also be that good.

So IF those two can be really good, Montgomery can stay good, and Mikolas can be ok then sure we might be onto something.

But this team has kinda already burned off any slack they might have had if they intend to compete for the division.

From this point forward they pretty much have to play like a 100 win team for the rest of the season to get to 93-94 wins…

We come in with a .303 win pct which equates 49-113.

Wainwright is physically diminished, but he knows what he is doing and he is not lacking in resolve. He will be working with Contreras for the first time in a meaningful situation. It is going to be weird seeing him make the walk in from the pen without Yadi at his side. In the midst of this mess, it will be good to see him take the mound, whatever happens.

    Bling,

I do not want see Wainwright get destroyed. A final year of 4-10 with an era 5+ on a 4th or 5th place team would not be a great way for him to wrap up his career.

If it looks like that I’d rather he just hang up his cleats.

Looks like OF clarity is now our catcher playing in the OF.

They DFA’d Motter again, lol. I’d guess he goes unclaimed and ends up back in Memphis.

Barrera up? Why? Knizner in trouble? Oh just saw it: Contreras to OF? Sorry but wtf?

I think Liberatore will be called up soon. Just gotta be.

If Wainwright is out of gas they are out of bullets.

Mikolas is serviceable. Matz does not appear to be.

Such is the life of a mangy dog.

Is Hicks still in St. Louis?

If so, I have one question – WHY???????????????

Hicks refused to voluntarily go to Memphis.

He had been better until last night.

They have to keep him in StL or trade him or DFA him but he would then just declare free agency and they’d get nothing for him ..

So are the Cardinals officially blaming our pitching woes on Contreras?

I can’t imagine playing him in the OF will help our OF defense. Good grief.

Mo had one must do job this winter, find a replacement for Yadi, so he gets a guy for 5 years. Now they need to find a position the guy can play. Jeesh, this whole thing is circling the drain.

Turnbull sucks. They will finally win a game. I won’t watch as I need to go out but I am pretty confident.

Haven’t heard any Herrera talk in a long time. Reality derailed that hype train for good.

Scanning the twitterverse, it sounds like Contreras will be mostly doing DH. Which means there is now a pileup there. Fourth outfielder and extra middle infielder and now Contreras, who will probably get most of the reps.

Longer term, he is owed 87.5 over 5 years, so we will see a lot of him, just not catching, presumably. Face it, he’s as good of a catcher as he is going to be, so if its not good enough now it won’t be later. E-gad things are a mess. I’m thinking a multi year to clean up mess. How many years depends on how serious BDW is about it.
