Post game comments? Hopefully he won’t show up and it’ll mean that he’s gone. I’ll personally upgrade his seat back to wherever he’s from.
May 5, 2023 at 10:09 pm #219198Haven’t been able to watch much of the game, so how has Yepez looked in LF? I’ve seen just one play, the one where he played the double off the wall and that was done well.
May 5, 2023 at 10:12 pm #219199Yepez is more serviceable in LF than O’Neill is in CF or with a bat.
May 5, 2023 at 10:14 pm #219200I haven’t seen either Barnum or Bailey out in LF tonight, Euro…Lookin’ pretty good.

It likely wasn’t the correct move but even worse was trusting Hicks.
You could see this coming though. Hicks had a couple outings where he did ok. Oli can’t quit him for some reason.

ParticipantI disagree texascard. Id rather have a healthy Monty than risk possible injury. This isnt a bygone era when pitchers basically just throw weak pitches here and there to extend themselves so they can go further and throw more pitches. Bottom line bullpen has to do its job. I blame marmol for a lot but not here, I put blame on the players and management where it belongs. But do as you will.
May 5, 2023 at 10:17 pm #219203How’s he going to injure himself, Wille?
May 5, 2023 at 10:19 pm #219204Baseball has really changed. Now we are worried that a starter will have to go in the IL if he throws 110 pitches when he is healthy and in the prime of his career (21 more pitches than Monty actually threw). I don’t get it.
May 5, 2023 at 10:27 pm #219205Yeah, I’m confused about the concept of an injury. Did he have a hunting knife out there on the mound?
May 5, 2023 at 10:28 pm #219206With Goldy at second with no out, Contreras, Arenado and Carlson strike out. 5-4 loss.

ParticipantOn this game, some pretty bad umpiring that last inning. You can’t give below the knees. In or out I’m ok with but not down. Far as pitch count count, again find me all these starters suddenly throwing more than a hundred pitches in a game this year or over the last few in fact. There have been articles written on the 100 pitch limit recently in fact. If you don’t agree that’s fine. I don’t agree with all the analytic stats and such you guys like to throw around.

Participant1tough, managers have used the 100 pitch threshold for a long time now. It’s not new. Sure some coaches are more liberal with it and there are still pitchers who do throw that amount but it’s usually the same candidates and still doesn’t change the facts that very few pitchers throw that many any more.
May 5, 2023 at 10:33 pm #219209Bring on the robo umps!
May 5, 2023 at 10:35 pm #219210It’s about time to get the white flags out. 10-23. Bottom feeding the NL. I don’t see a path to the playoffs much less the division.
I think this team will play better but they have dug themselves such a hole that even if they start to claw back one 2-8 stretch will be the kill shot for the season.
Season feels done….they may tease us for awhile at some point – but, I think they will fall short.

ParticipantKind of odd. During marmols post game interview, the feed on the network froze when they asked him the question about taking out Montgomery. Best I could gather was he said he could have went out there but that more than likely he was going to end up at top of order and be taken out anyway. Maybe not but best I could gather.
May 5, 2023 at 10:39 pm #219212I think I’ll blame the HPU for this one…I’ll run out there and do a clown dance.
May 5, 2023 at 10:39 pm #219213This team has to be hitting like .120 with RISP….13 hits and 4 runs tonight
Hicks needs to be sent to Springfield or DFA’d
No clue what the manager is doing with his starting pitcher pulling him with less than 90 pitches….don’t see how he can survive unless they hit a win streak quickly….but knowing how tight dollar Bill is he may not want to eat the contract and upper Mgmt admit the failure in their hires
May 5, 2023 at 10:42 pm #219214He indicated he took the baseball out of Montgomery’s hand due to the line-up turning over. Isn’t that what line-ups do?
May 5, 2023 at 10:42 pm #2192156 or 7 pitchers tonight started and went over 100 pitches! It’s not unusual! He should have come out for the 7th! Hicks did what he does! Yes he has been better lately but I still don’t trust him I’m a one run game! Not sure I trust a single pitcher we have in a one run game come to think of it! This is a total disaster! Tired of watching it really!
May 5, 2023 at 10:45 pm #219216This has turned into a real mess. They got a good start from Montgomery and the bull pen fell apart. Offense needed to add on and just could not do it. Had opportunities … 3 for 13 with RISP. Ollie needs to figure out which arms in the pen are reliable enough to protect leads.
May 5, 2023 at 10:49 pm #219217So, in post-game, Marmol thought Monty had gotten away with some pitches up in the zone, and had faith in Hicks, Gio and Cabrera to close it out, so pulled Monty after 89 pitches. Hicks had been good in “the last couple of weeks.” Said that Monty told him “I get it.”
This is where the manager has to have a sense how his team is performing in the moment. That’s where I think Marmol failed. Monty is a seasoned pitcher not prone to mistakes in tight situations. Got to keep him in at that point.
Monty says in post game he wanted to stay in, but it wasn’t his decision. He’s a pro for sure.
May 5, 2023 at 10:51 pm #219218I’m tired of watching it too, Steve60. However, it’s beginning to be an interesting study in the context of observing a team that has no faith in it’s leadership. At this juncture I’m convinced that these players know that it’s only a matter of a few days before their manager is cashiered.
May 5, 2023 at 10:59 pm #219219If Monty said he was good to stay in and Oli thought the smart move to go with Hicks anyway, the guy’s just stupid. You can’t win with stupid.
What can you say about stupid people? They do stupid things.
May 5, 2023 at 11:02 pm #219220I don’t know that it ends with stupid, Euro. Even stupid people sometimes own stupid behavior. I’ve never heard this guy own anything. Not once.
May 5, 2023 at 11:08 pm #2192211TD, I have 5 TV’s in my living room so I can watch 5 games at once! The big screen in the middle with 4 smaller tv’s surrounding it! I used to always watch the Cardinals on the big Tv but lately they have been banished to the far left corner! Lol!
