ParticipantWell I left to take my grandson to park, we were down 2-0, come back we up 3-2, Montgomery came back and pitched well. But alas eventually he had to come out. In come hicks, walks leadoff hitter, hits next guy, gives up 2 run double. What the heck.

ParticipantGallegos gives up a run scoring hit on a pitch down the middle. Maybe we should start using some different pitchers in these situations.
May 5, 2023 at 9:13 pm #219172The loss of Maddox may be bigger than thought, b/c Marmol looks clueless managing the pitchers and I’m not sure the new pitching coach is pushing back on some of these stupid moves
May 5, 2023 at 9:14 pm #219173It almost seems scripted. It’s not unlike watching Gilligan’s Island reruns. There’s no way off this island.
May 5, 2023 at 9:15 pm #219174Does Marmol make it to Monday if we lose this series? Sadly, probably yes.
May 5, 2023 at 9:16 pm #219175I like the sac-bunt, but this is no time for it.

ParticipantWell two hits leading off the inning. Take advantage here
May 5, 2023 at 9:18 pm #219177Why was Monty pulled at 89 pitches?
Because you have an incompetent coach, POBO, and computer. It’s beyond getting old.

ParticipantWhy can’t our guys hit 97 mph fastballs down the middle. Other guys seem to.

ParticipantI don’t blame marmol for pulling Monty after 89 pitches. The most you get is one more inning and he may have said he was done. Plus best not to take chances with the one guy pitching well. Other guys have to step up

ParticipantContreras can make the signing look really good right now, based juiced.
May 5, 2023 at 9:27 pm #219182I do Willie. A big league starting pitcher shouldn’t be done at 89 pitches the first week of May. That’s the problem with today’s game weak sauce.

Surely Monty can go more than 100 pitches and I have never seen a healthy starter ask to be taken out of a game. They all want to pitch and it is not like it is 100 degrees tonight. And if he had gone one more inning, Marmol probably wouldn’t have gone to Hicks, who has struggled more often than not this season, and they might still be leading.
Nothing is for sure, but I liked their chances with Monty more than with Hicks.
May 5, 2023 at 9:31 pm #219184It sure doesn’t seem like 11 years ago when Miggy won a TC. He came very close to winning another one the very next season. He sure could hit the baseball.
May 5, 2023 at 9:33 pm #219185He snatched the baseball out of Quintana’s hand after 75 pitches and he didn’t allow a solitary run in that game. This guy needs to go a long time ago.
May 5, 2023 at 9:38 pm #219186Monty facts from tonight.
At the time of his removal, #STLCards LHP Jordan Montgomery had retired 11 of 13, breezed through the 6th inning & had thrown 89 pitches.
He didn't allow a run after the 1st inning & surrendered just 3 hits over his final 5 innings of work.
The bullpen coughed up a 3-2 lead.

May 5, 2023 at 9:48 pm #219188Can’t catch a break. That double scores 2.

Definitely want to hear the post game comments about pulling Montgomery. Didn’t look like he was spent or hurting when he came out.
May 5, 2023 at 9:51 pm #219191It’s good that you put that up there, BW. The reality needs to be acknowledged. The current Redbird manager has never owned anything. That’s a fact.

I’ve already thought about this one. Could be an interesting exchange, especially if the Cards don’t come back and Oli is edgy and there’s no good reason like there was when Gorman was pulled last time.
May 5, 2023 at 9:58 pm #219193So you pinch hit for Edman? Seriously Marmol…is he trying to get fired?
May 5, 2023 at 9:58 pm #2191941982 willie
ParticipantWell I would be interested in seeing how many pitchers have thrown overa 100 pitches this year in a start. I bet it’s pretty close to zero. Also I would bet with certainty that if he had left him in there and he had thrown 110 pitches or more and next day he was put out on injury list for rest of season, all the people saying he should have kept him in there would suddenly be saying the opposite. Also pitchers usually don’t ask to be taken out, managers do ask how they are feeling. Sometimes how the answer that determines whether they take them out or not. Unless you think he should leave him in there to finish the game and throw 130 pitches or more, either way our bullpen has to get job done. I’m all for getting rid of marmol but in this game its our players fault. Plus maybe ownership for keeping these guys around instead of getting better pitching during off-season.
May 5, 2023 at 10:00 pm #219195Come on Willie. It was a bad move. Plain and simple.

Worse, though, because there’s no Ginger or Mary Ann. But Thurston Howell III is a good comp for BDW and Mo thinks the professor’s intellect is a good comp for his own.
