1TD, thanks for the Cecil reminder. I have tried to forget that signing. Lol jk. At some point I think we need to laugh at this stuff. Better than crying.

Stratton, Verhagen and Matz were bad FA signings.

Matz yes. Stratton and Verhagen are redundant. They were relying on Hesley, Gallegos, Hicks being their go to RH relief. Have to have those other guys out there too. I don’t dislike Stratton, but he is redundant when you have your other “high spin rate project” in VerHagen, who I’d rather have Stratton over. But then again the options in the minors of who you’re going to fill the pen with is questionable at best.
I don’t dislike Thompson being stretched out as a SP. I think his stuff plays and has out of the pen, but the control is what gets him in trouble. Out of college his stuff was drawing comparison to Mark Mulder and some even Clayton Kershaw, but he’s got to command in the zone. But where does he fit? Mikolas signed and Matz is signed. I mean if things continue this path they can sell expiring contracts of Montgomery, even though I’d like to keep him around, and Flaherty. Which opens spots for Liberatore and Thompson to start. The Matz contract is very much a hindrance though. You know you’ve got at least a good 2nd LHP in Thompson maybe a good late inning LHP. But maybe you’ve got a good SP in him too. I saw Graceffo went on the Memphis IL. What’s the extent of his injury?

Yeah, they didn’t clinch the NLE until that final series with the Cubs that season, 64cards. I remember watching those games on TV and the camera actually cutting away from the game at times to show Mets players, including K. Hernandez, watching the clinching game on TV from NY.

Haha!…Yeah, 27. I really can’t recall Cecil ever recording a solitary out. Matheny would hand him the baseball, he’d allow a hit, then he’d walk a guy, then a HBP and a double…And then he’d leave. Same script every time. Cecil really memorized his lines…

Isn’t it way past time for changes. Matz should be dropped from rotation, along with Woodford, adding Waino and Liberatore. We can’t keep trotting out crappy starters.

I mean Matz has a longer leash than Woodford due to the money invested. We’ve seen them try to get Max value out of bad contracts.

I would wait 2 weeks but this is getting worse. Making a move by then might oust the skipper if this keeps up. They can’t keep him in charge if they stay 10 games under for 2 weeks. IDGAF if he’s the chosen one or not by bowtie. He’s got to go if they can’t figure it out by then.

Brian and others have pointed out that changes by way of trades is not likely at this point in the season. That means change would involve internal resources. The sad fact is there isn’t anything there. Even coaching changes from internal options is going to be more of the same, because anyone who is not more of the same is long gone. Not much, if anything, good is out there waiting for a job offer.

I know some are hoping Wainwright will be an answer and I know the Liberatore hype hounds will never give up, and I hope both of those guys do well. But there is not any reality based reason to expect enough to matter out of either. As of now, I have zero faith in the organization’s ability to realistically assess what they’ve got, and zero faith in its ability to get the most of what its got. I am tired of hype and hope.

Verhagen started the season okay, but he has quickly regressed to last season’s form. Matz was up and down this year, but this year he’s worse. Not sure about Stratton. Had a good outing last night.

Time to call up some arms from the first place Memphis Red Birds!
