The patch is just the company name in plain typeface on a white field, rectangular, on the shoulder.
May 2, 2023 at 7:19 pm #218672Matz is at 49 pitches already. Can we get the standard 5 innings out of this well paid starter.
May 2, 2023 at 7:22 pm #218673I spin up the TV 15 minutes late and stumble into a 4-0 ditch. This team wastes no time.
May 2, 2023 at 7:43 pm #218675I normally watch at least a portion the pregame, but didn’t catch any of it today. Were there any in depth interviews that called for Cardinal fans to excercise patience, or was the focus placed on the trendy new patches?
May 2, 2023 at 7:59 pm #218677Matz has settled down.
Cards need to start chipping away at this lead.
May 2, 2023 at 8:02 pm #218678Guys, do not lose faith in Matz! He has had a rough start to the season. However, I would like to remind every one that John Tudor was 1-7 on May 30, 1985. John went on to finish the season with a record of 21-8.
May 2, 2023 at 8:36 pm #218680I have to say Arenado took that AB in the 6th like he didn’t want to miss his dinner reservation.
May 2, 2023 at 8:37 pm #218681Brutal DP by Arenado. Gotta feel bad for him.
May 2, 2023 at 8:38 pm #218682Was Tudors era over 6 when he was 1-7?
May 2, 2023 at 8:43 pm #218683For those thinking that Matz was or is going to turn it around sorry but it isn’t happening. He was bad last year, bad this year, and we are stuck with him for two more years after this season. It was a ridiculous signing from day one. He is basically another Brett Cecil; sunk cost.
May 2, 2023 at 8:44 pm #218684IMO, Stratton, Verhagen and Matz were bad FA signings. Matz has time, but it’s been bad so far. Brad Hahd was available but we reup Stratton instead for more $$$. Brilliant.
May 2, 2023 at 9:00 pm #218687Chip says they’re sending Thompson down to stretch out to start. Can’t wait to see that he says. Ha, funny. We’ve already seen it Chip. 2021 and 2022. Got killed both times. Last year ERA over 5 as a starter in Memphis. He flamed out as a reliever, so they’re just throwing it against the wall and saying a Hail Mary. But Chip is a noob so he gets a pass.
Speaking of things we’ve seen before, Libby should be back at some point, probably sooner rather than later. Been there, done that, but what the heck. He won’t be any worse than what we’ve been seeing. (He said confidently)
May 2, 2023 at 9:05 pm #218689Good question concerning Tudor, so I looked it up. At the juncture of the ’85 season in which his W/L record was 1-7 his ERA stood at 3.74. From that point forward he had a Big League leading 10 SHO’s and collected 14 CG’s on the way to a 21-8 W/L record with a season ERA of 1.93. He placed 2nd in the NL CYA voting to Dwight Gooden who at 20 years of age went 24-4 with a Big League leading 1.53 ERA. Gooden also led both leagues with 16 CG’s and 268 K’s. It’s a sad shame what happened to Gooden.
May 2, 2023 at 9:06 pm #218690If Matz does that, I’ll eat a spray can of pine tar.
May 2, 2023 at 9:09 pm #218691ZTR, we have a slight difference in ERA. Tudor’s ERA at the end of May was 3.74 (if my math is correct).
May 2, 2023 at 9:13 pm #218692Ver Hagen makes $3 mill and Stratton makes $2.8 mill hardly anything to sweat if the Cardinals had an owner that didn’t pinch every penny
But speaking of money betting against the Cardinals in series openers is about as good as it gets 0-10 and counting
May 2, 2023 at 9:18 pm #218693Barring a big comeback we about to be 10-20.
There is no way this team is this bad.
The pieces are there.
I can only keep coming back to the manager.
May 2, 2023 at 9:18 pm #218694Bling, you going to eat the pine tar or just the can? (Not going to have to do either, Matz blows)
May 2, 2023 at 9:20 pm #218695To this point, none of the pitchers signed during the 2021-22 offseason have contributed much. The mid-year acquisitions have been much more productive. I remain confused as to why the Cardinals were not more aggressive in trading for or signing another starting pitcher this past offseason.
May 2, 2023 at 9:21 pm #218696I’m not certain about the end of May, 64Cards, but the 3.74 ERA is correct at the point in which his W/L record stood at 1-7. At any rate, he had one heck of a ’85 season after stumbling out of the gate. I was in attendance for 2 of his turns that season. The one I most vividly recall was a game in which he received a no decision for working 10 innings and not allowing a run in a match up against the Mets and Ron Darling in Oct. of that season. Ken Dayley took the loss after a mistake to Strawberry in the visitor half of the 11th for a 1-0 final. It was a true Pennant race game. The kind that no longer exists.
May 2, 2023 at 9:26 pm #218697Win pct is .333 which equates to 54-108.
May 2, 2023 at 9:27 pm #218698The best action of this game occured in the 5th inning when the camera panned over to Johnny’s sky box. Everyone got a good look at that fancy wrist watch he was wearing. You could almost hear it ticking. Time’s running out…
May 2, 2023 at 9:28 pm #218699Verhagen and Stratton are negative signings. Relievers usually come cheap, so you you usually get more than negative WAR value. They have stunk. I wish we had given our young relievers a chance. Bad management all the way around.
May 2, 2023 at 9:33 pm #218700No, I’m not a big fan of either VerHagen or Stratton, 27. I miss the glory days of Brett Cecil. He came pretty cheap at a little under $8MM per.
May 2, 2023 at 9:33 pm #2187011TD, I got to see him pitch the final weekend of the season against the Cubs in St. Louis. He threw a complete game giving up four hits and one run. He was on a roll!
