It really bothers me that some posters have suggested that Arenado doesn’t care and isn’t trying to win.
Agreed. Just a horrible take.
The guy finished third in the MVP vote last fall, this winter opted to stay with the team for five more years when he could have left and after one tough month, people are throwing around speculation apparently because the obvious explanations aren’t spicy enough. Hold him to a high standard on the field, yes, but the rest is disappointing to see.

My opinion is that NA’s slump is not different that everyone else’s, he’s just falling from a loftier height so it is more striking.
NA’s career slump coincides with the team’s historically bad April. Is one the chicken and one the egg? If so which is which? Is the coincidence random chance or is there a common cause? If so, what is it? We do not know any of that, so any ruling in or out is speculative. Some explanations are more likely than others, but which are obvious and which are not depends upon who gets to be the explanation police.
If posters make speculation that you think is most likely not valid, that is your right, just as others have the right to point it out. That is not policing. It is keeping the discussion grounded.
We agree that Arenado and his team are in the midst of a historically bad slump. As you noted in response to the Bernie article, all that really matters is how to get out of it. Again, we agree.
My background is in law and my credo is that if you are going to make an assertion, have facts to back it up. Speculation in a court of law will get you smacked down faster than Jordan Hicks’ fastball.
Given that, I prefer to listen to what comes out of the horse’s mouth as fact.

I thought there might have been hope for Mateo. With his dad a former MLB infielder and successful manager in Mexico, he had good coaching.
Montero was sent down this week and Gomber has struggled for several years now. The Rocks don’t have much to show from the trade yet other than a bigger bank account for having to pay Arenado less money.
While it can happen, it is pretty rare for a player at the MLB level to not care about their performance or the club’s misfortunes. In order to attain major league status, guys have to work extremely hard and have a competitive drive and pride in themselves.
Thus usually what comes off as not working hard or not trying as much as they could for a struggling player, is generally just a plain old slump. The mechanics are off somewhere, the confidence shaken, and the game is not as fun. But the player is hurting more than the fan.
Back in 2018 Mozeliak hinted that Dexter Fowler was not trying hard when Dex was in a horrific slump, but later back tracked on that and apologized for his mis-characterization.
Nado is too good of a player to have this continue much longer. He will come out of it. In the meamtime, let’s pull for him even more than we do when he is cruising along. Now is the time he needs our support.
