Nice going, Donovan. That’s the first 2 out RBI base hit I’ve seen in a while.

John Tudor started the ’85 season 1-7 but ended up 21-8.

Maybe this team can mirror him.

“Girsch who?” Is actually a good point. Ever since they named Mo President of Baseball Operations, Girsch has been a third wheel. Not sure what he does as GM. Never seen him interviewed either.

Woodford got lucky there. Munch hit that pitch really hard.

I’m not sure how Contreras should have handled that base running play but I don’t think like that.

Looked like a mental error by Contreras. Seemed like he gave up on the play too early.

Not to state the obvious but the reason our starters can’t give us quality starts is because they don’t throw strikes. That could be because of a lack of control or because they don’t trust their stuff but the nibbling leads to too many full counts and base runners. Today Woodford threw 90 pitches in 3.2 innings. That won’t cut it.

Woodford just doesn’t have put away pitches. So he nibbles. He’s ok as our #7 starter to fill in on occasion. Unfortunately, he’s had to fill in for a full month.

Matz also nibbles. But he does have some good stuff. Montgomery does some of the same. I agree that both just need to be more aggressive. But for Woodford, I’m not sure. He gets killed with some of his strikes so I totally get why he nibbles hoping guys will really expand their zones.

So we got 4 1/3 from Woodford?

    Bullpen here he comes ..

    Sigh 5-3 Dodgers after 5.

    Same old, same old.

Can the Cardinals flip the script?

Actually it was 3 2/3 but who is counting. Not a quality start anyway.

If we had swapped Montgomery and Woodford starts, we would be leading this game 3 – 1, instead of losing 5 – 3, as of the fifth inning

We are running out of ways to talk about this team.

They are masters at pulling defeat from the jaws of victory.

So I think we can go ahead and pull Woodford from the rotation and give his spot to Woodford. Was probably the plan anyway with them pitching on the same day.

Woodford to the pen for long relief or back to Memphis?

    Lots of pitching changes.

    The managerial wheels are spinning.

Marmol trying to keep the back end of his bullpen sharp as there hasn’t been anything for them to save….

In Memphis, Wainwright after 3 IP, 6 H, 4 R all earned. He is a 52 pitches and still in the game.

He’s been getting hit around by the AAA hitters.

Arenado continues sub-par performance. Called out on strikes top of the 8th down by 2 runs. This team won’t go anywhere until Arenado and Goldy start to produce again.

That feels to me like trying to get too cute. Also, pitching Woodford on short rest wouldn’t be wise.

They need to feel like they can win every game. Admitting they can’t would show incredible weakness, IMO.

Marmol should NEVER have let Helsley go 4 days without pitching.

Or not. Bad doesn’t even describe it.
