And Girsch for interim POBO? One thing you can say about the guy is you probably can’t name anything he’s done that you would consider unimpressive.
Yeah, it’s a Redbird record and I don’t know if it’s ever happened, but I sure can’t recall the Cardinals ever being as far as 9.5 games back before May 1st, which after tonight could be a genuine possibility with another loss tomorrow. I wonder if that’s a record in the hall of shame?

This is just all wrong.
First, you have to have a scout who knows something besides which end of a radar gun to hold. Assuming that much, what could a scout tell you that a printout can’t? Nothing, obviously, and the scout might let intangibles skew what the numbers are saying. Next thing you know, the philosophy police are kicking down your door.
Second, commenters often got scolded for ‘DeWallet’, so ‘Dollar Bill’ is not to be uttered.
The win pct is .370, which equates to 60-102. Mo and his bespectacled crunchers may yet get a chance at the next Mark Appel. That would be glorious.

I said it the other day they need to quit playing so much video game baseball and toss the dang computer in the Mississippi River. They need a refresh like the Rangers did last year. They fired their long time POBO (non-baseball man) and Manager. It’s time the Cardinals did the same.
Bill and Mo have been playing a dangerous game for several years just begging for a season like this.
They have skated by and dodged bullets and <insert clever analogy> but with the way they have constructed their rosters this was bound to happen.
The Cardinals have not had a seriously WS contending roster since 2014; maybe 2015 if you want to be generous but before you go there check out the post all-star game record of that team.

They indeed have been on a risky strategy of constantly playing for short-term lightning strikes, while sending what they hoped was excess long-term value out.
It is getting to the point of where you seriously question whether this is just a good club having a bad start, or if this is simply a bad baseball team. It has happened before, as early as last year, where a talented team rallied and played well after a bad start.
I wonder if the front office will let this season ride and see what happens, then make changes in the Fall if the club ends up under water, or will they make a move in say June if there is no improvement?
My main concern is they will make a panic move, and send yet more younger talented guys away for a veteran, and we will then be staring at a 5 year rebuilding era.
Last year the patch moves made sense since the problem was perceived to be that the rotation was riddled with injuries. Nothing drastic, just keep us in the WC race until the end, that qualifies as competitive. Next year the injured guys will be back.
This year, that perception will not work, at least as of now. The injured pitchers are healthy but they are not good enough to keep us competitive. The offense and defense have also been bad, also not excusable by injuries. So now what? We need different guys, at least on the pitching side, and not just to get us through this season, but going forward. Nothing much is happening in the upper levels of the system that doesn’t look like what we have already. Different verse of the same tune.
Since the problem is something different, a different solution would be logical. Mo has pulled some rabbits out of hats in the past, but he has also tossed rabbits and hats into the wood chipper. We will just have to stay tuned and see what happens. Meanwhile, Mo and the Gang need to come up with a plan to put a more palatable product on the field with what we’ve got. Once he has the plan, tell Oli what it is.
The ’22 edition rallied, Bikemike, but last season was entirely different as that team never once fell below .500 all season long and were never more than 4 games back which was on July 30th. They then took off after the deadline and went 22-7 in August and had an NLC lead of as much as 9.5 games on Sept. 7th. This season’s edition is beginning to set club records for losing and it’s still April.
