Freeman walks, scores on Muncy double in the right field gap (3-2). Muncy scores on Heyward double just inside the third base bag (4-2). Flaherty at 70+ pitches thru three innings.
Rough start for Jack up to now.
Is there enough good starting pitching available via trade that won’t gut our minors completely? It appears that’s likely what it will take to help this team. It appears grabbing a quintana, happ or Lester just won’t cut it this year.

Nootbar makes a great catch on Hayward’s fly, but Contreras called for catcher’s interference. Stuck his glove out too far and Hayward clipped it. So, bases loaded one out. Flaherty follows up by hitting the batter with the bases loaded. 5-2, them. What the heck is going on with this team?
Smith singles, advances to second on WP. Muncy walks. Heyward is awarded first base on Catchers Interference (Flaherty at 99 pitches). Outman HBP, Smith scores (5-2). Flaherty leaves with bases loaded and two outs. He finished with 110 pitches.
Ugh! Walk, Catchers Interference and HBP. Ugly!
Heyward has two hits, two RBI’s and a few good defensive plays.
Stratton replaces Romero with two out and one on. He gives up a two-run shot to Vargas and Cards trail 7-2 after seven innings.
Stratton is another guy you really don’t want to see in a meaningful situation.
Another inning to go but it looks like another bad one. Give up 7 runs, make 2 errors, starter can’t make it through 5, 0-7 RISP, O’Neill injured again, etc. Sounds about right.
