Yeah ZTR, the smart money is on L. But anything can happen. If the four legged dog has a stroke, the three legged one wins.

It’s too bad whatever Donovan did over the winter transformed him from a high OBP up in the order guy to a low OBP down in the order guy. So we need Goldy and his OBP up where his power has minimal impact. I wonder who decided Donny needed to be something else.

Crappy baseball teams still win 60-70 games and even the occasional series.

The worst team in the league will generally take a couple from the best team over the course of the season.

Baseball is a sport where the cream generally rises to the top but nobody goes 162-0.

I’m anxious to flip my calendar from April to May…. April ’23 will be referenced for years to come.

I’m putting my Cards hats back in my closet…. I heard some snickering the last few days.
    Go Cardinals.

The Cardinals and A’s are going to be fighting it out for the number one draft pick in the 2024 draft, or however the draft lottery is set up now. Randy Flores you are on the clock.

Speaking of the As, whatever happened to moneyball?

The concepts can be a useful tool. Like a hammer. But the user needs to know the difference between a nail and a thumb.

Every team adopted it and it no longer became and advantage to them.

I thought last night was the end of the Giants series. Another game against them is good news. We can avoid the sweep, plus it delays the guaranteed series opening loss another day. Win-win.

Moneyball is headed to the land of slot machines. I am assuming it is a bad sign when your AAA team outdraws you attendance wise.

The A’s are 5-20 with a run differential of -112.

They are on their own level of bad and I don’t think they are even an average AAA team right now.

In 25 games they are being outscored by an average of over 4 runs per game…..

Its embarrassing to have only won 4 more than the As.

For what it’s worth, which is not much, the run differential sits at -11 for the Redbirds. Not too awfully bad when you consider that AZ is in 1st place in the NLW with a negative differential of -2 and SD’s playing at a .500 clip with a differential of -17, which are both a bit odd. At any rate, at the end of the day run differential in the context of the standings buys about as much as a wooden nickel.

It just goes to show the only statistic that can reliably tell a winner is wins and a loser is losses. The rest is noise.

Pirates win again 6-2 over the Dodgers for their 9th W in their last 10 games. They could lose 10 straight games and still be at a .500 clip.

This April has been dreadful, and is a sharp contrast to the magical spring of 2015. Went back and re-read that history just to remember a happier time.

-Opening day win (was actually the first MLB “night” opener) 3-0 vs. the Cubs. Waino logged the W.
-Club record 4 stolen bases on opening day
-Cards won 22 of their first 29 games and were the first team to reach 50 wins (best start since 1887)
-Matt Holliday started his streak of reaching base in 45 consecutive games
-Matt Holliday opened the season with a 12 game hitting streak
-Matt Carpenter hit a double in 7 consecutive games
-Lance Lynn notched his 50th career win and 13th win in April since 2012.
-John Lackey and Jason Heyward made their debuts
-a few other notable events, but worth a read just to remember what’s possible.

They slowed down after April, but made it to the NLDS losing to the Cubs. But what a fun spring that was!

I don’t see it with Nootbar, he is a 5th OF or AAA player and he is somehow a regular starter and leadoff hitter

Bases loaded and two outs and Nolan Gorman strikes out swinging. He was swinging like he was trying to hit one out to Alcatraz instead of just trying to make contact and put the ball in play. He should have been doing that with two strikes.

Modern day baseball. At times it is hard to watch.

There we go, Gorman whiffs with the sacks jammed. Trying for a homer with two strikes.

Bases loaded tie game. What’s the play? Strike out of course!
