And as soon as I key that in, I see Gorman in the 3 slot. I like Gorman, but the 3 slot belongs to Goldy.
Who would have though these guys would have nearly identical batting lines.

Donovan: .254/.311/.388/.699It’s still early in the day, so while taking a look at league leaders I saw quite a few names that aren’t entirely well known that are atop the important categories, but one of them wasn’t Clayton Kershaw who’s doing what he’s always done and off to a nice start. He’s top shelf all the way around the proverbial horn, but this guy has a career W/L pct. of .696 and with 4 W’s already this season, has now placed 201 W’s into the books. He’s 5th all time in W/L pct. and no one in front of him in that area has recorded more than 120 W’s with the solitary exception of Al Spalding who’s first in W/L pct. at .794 and has 251 W’s on the books. Furthermore, 2 of the guys in the top 5 in W/L pct. are listed from the Negro Leagues. In any event, I was in attendance to see Kershaw take a turn in ’09 and still remember thinking to myself that he looked like he maybe had a chance to pretty good…Haha! I’ll also say that I’m glad I got to attend that game in StL. for the simple reason that I always enjoy having the opportunity to boast a little bit about some of the great HOF’ers that I was able to see…Haha!
Haha!…Al Spalding had a season in which he went 54-5. It was a little less than 10 years after the final shot was fired during The American Civil War…

The Reds plate two runs in the last of the 8th on two bases loaded walks and then tally a single run in the last of the 9th to beat the red hot Rangers 7-6 at Crosley Field.
Detroit leads Milwaukee 4-2 in the 8th at Miller Park.
Tampa Bay beat Houston 8-3 for another win at home. They have yet to lose a home game.
Time to get Whitey Herdog up on the couch for 1st pitcher. And get my turkey sandwich with lettuce mayo, mustard, Doritos, a slushy Mt. Dew, and a couple of cigars for this game.

That Tampa team’s beginning to be a little out of order. Not only are they winning every day, but they’re beating some good teams. Better check the baseball…
The O’s have reeled off 7 W’s in a row and are not only in 2nd place 4.5 behind Tampa in the loaded AL East, but also feature the 2nd best W/L record in the AL. I always root for the O’s for several reasons, but primarily because I really like the look of that smiling bird.
I watched a game Saturday between the Giants and Mets. Both teams attempted several SB’s during that game. Need to check on these baserunners and Contreras has to be ready.
Poor Orioles fans have had to suffer through bad ownership for several decades. They deserve better.
Yeah, they were competitive last season, so maybe they’ve turned the proverbial corner. They were once the bane of both the Yankees and Red Sox for quite a while. I enjoyed seeing that.
31 pitches for Montgomery. He got a little lucky with the last 2 hitters bailing him out a bit – especially Conforto. Let’s hope he settles down quickly.
Monty escapes the first inning unscathed but it takes him 31 pitches. He will be lucky to give us five innings.
Contreras is starting to look like Lonnie Smith behind the plate. Skates 2.0.
Question: Since starters are the main topic these days, who are your top 3 favorite Cardinals starters that you’ve watched pitch in your lifetime?
I’m not old enough to have watched Gibson. And I can only faintly remember Andujar 1TD. He was so fun to listen to. But yeah, Carpenter has got to go on my list. I felt so safe with him on the mound – especially in big games.
My favorite 3 were Forsch, Carpenter, and I’m going to go with Bob Tewksbury just for fun for my final name. He just always seemed reliable and unflappable. Plus, there really aren’t a ton of great other choices in the last 30 years other than Waino, but he’s still active. Forsch was my first Cardinal idol. I loved that sometimes he’d start the game, then get switched to right or left field so a lefty relievers could pitch, and then he’d come back and relieve the reliever for another inning. Plus he could hit pretty well having originally been a third baseman.
