So, judging by comments earlier in the thread, Mikolas was immediately given the heave-ho for a mere HBP and neither he nor the benches were warned beforehand?

Yes. The cubs dugout was getting a laugh out of it.

It did look like he half-heartilly threw at him.

Yeah, no question he hit him on purpose. With a light touch, in his hip pocket. No complaint about it from Cubs dugout or from Happ.

Looked like Flaherty came out of the dugout and yelled at the laughing Cubs.

Well, if he throws at him and hits him it’s my understanding that it’s simply a HBP which happens all the time and isn’t a violation of any rules unless he or the benches have been provided with the benefit of a warning prior to the HBP.

I did a bit of searching, and it seems that a pitcher can be tossed without warning if it’s determined the HBP was intentional. The umps could have let that one go. And should have to my mind. But I think they did have the option of doing what they did.

1td I remember laughing about it last year making jokes like PDJ will probably start all year and here we are! They will keep him and he will play all year at ss for us! And next year to! It’s really just unbelievable! IMO the first day we get serious about winning again he will not be here!

Ratso; On the basis of your prediction (Cards 8-2) I made an online bet on a Cards win in the 2nd inning with Cubs up 3-0. I got 4-1 0dds. 20 bucks. So I guess we could win 80 bucks.. Hold on, you will get a taste. Heh,Heh….

It would be interesting if Chicago holds on to win tonight and as a result decides to buy rather than sell, then comes up short this season, missing the opportunity to build, and leaving the Cards with one less team competing with them in selling. OK. I’m stretching in looking for a way to feel better about that debacle in inning one.

Suarez enters the game, so both long men used tonight.

The odds of a Card win at top of 6th (Cubs 7-1) have dropped to 38-1. Ratso, Should we plunge?

At one game under these Cubbies are playing like they want to taste .500 and make a run at bonus baseball in Oct. I predicted last winter that they’d win more games than the Brewers and while that doesn’t look to be likely, they have a chance to be relevant in the NLC. I expect them to make a concerted effort to improve their chances before Tuesday’s deadline.

The rookie almost got one. Track power’s good for Offys, Cosworths and McClarens, but won’t quite get it done in baseball.

Only four games up on the slate today in the entire Big Leagues. Well, five if you count this one.

Yeah, Gags, I guess at the end of the day an umpire has the option of tossing a player, manager or coach for just about anything at all. I’d just be curious to know how an umpire can explain how he determined that a pitcher hit a guy on purpose…Woman’s intuition?…Haha!

I was watching on the Cubs feed (I’m in Peoria) and this Jim DeShay announcer is actually mocking the Cards. This is payback for Cards announcer mocking the Cubs uniforms last series, calling them ugly soft-ball uniforms.

I glanced at the TV screen while the CF camera showed Palencia while he was coming set from the stretch and for a second I thought it was Zambrano…Haha!

9-1 so far. The Cubs have played pretty good. The Cards have just played dead. Hudson, Suarez, VerHagen, all in front of the home fans. Those folks sitting in the heat and humidity deserve something besides this. 9 PM and people are sitting there fanning themselves.

Yeah JMack, TLR once got real mad at Derrick Gould for an article he wrote that mocked the Cubs and refused to answer questions from the PD for about a week or so…Haha! LaRussa took baseball life real seriously and didn’t take to all those monkey shines. I sure do miss those post game shows on, “Tony TV.”…Haha!

Yeah, it’s blistering hot today. Someone asked me the proverbial question this afternoon…”Is it hot enough for you?” I told them, “Enjoy it while you can because we’ll be riding in a one horse open sleigh and singing, “Jingle Bells” before you know it…
