(and Bally Sports South/Southwest)Cubs come in having won five games in a row. Got to stop their momentum. Would be nice to take three of these four. A sweep would be even better.
I see the Angels have decided to keep Ohtani. And they have now traded for Giolito from the White Sox.

I had expected Mo to be a little more proactive with the upcoming trades – maybe get one done before now.
Hopefully this is not a sign that he is thinking about holding on to certain players or that he is overvaluing what he has to trade….
These Cubs guys are just another sub-500 bunch like us, though perhaps not quite as sub as we are, so perhaps we could summon the bats like yesterday and hand out a thrashing or three. Rah Cardinals!
Being in Chicago for the big Sports Collectibles event, I had thought about driving here, then drive down to St. Louis over the weekend and catch a couple of these games. But we started off so bad and all I decided to skip the games and just fly to Chicago and back.
Rumors are that the Yankees really want Bellinger, but now that the Cubs are playing well they may hang on to him. That could play into our hands as they might look at O’Neill or Carlson as a consolation prize. I still like Dylan and think he can play, but he has not exactly set the the world on fire. Plus we have plenty of fly chasers as it is.
Wouldn’t that be something if one or two of our guys started off this series wearing Cardinal red……..and then by weekend’s conclusion were donning cubbie blue. Could you imagine seeing Monty, Edman or O’Neill in a cubs uni? Yes, very unlikely to occur, but never say never. If they dangle enough goodies in front of Mo’s nose then anything is possible. I think that the first 2 games of this series is going to decide if Chicago is a buyer or a seller. I can tell you right now how this is going to shake out. If the cubs win the first two games here in St. Louis, then they’re going in full board as a buyer. If they lose the first two, then they are definitely selling. A split of these first two games and they are standing pat with what they have.
Although the Cubs didn’t get him from the Cardinals, the one player that comes to the forefront of my mind regarding the shock value of seeing him for the first time dressed out in Cubbie blue and pinstripes and situated in CF at Wrigley is Jim Edmonds. The image was nothing other than entirely wrong and seemed like a clear cut case of high treason…Haha!
Not that it’s a big deal and I’ve noticed this before while looking over home/away first pitch times on a season’s schedule, but whereas almost all other teams seem to have uniform start times that coincide with either day/night games, the Cardinals always display first pitch times for home games that indicate they either need to wind their wristwatch or else they’re trying to confuse fans and other teams regarding when to suit up and show up. This 4 game set with the Cubs is a perfect example as the 4 times for first pitch are, 6:45 pm, 7:15 pm, 6:15 pm and 1:15 pm, respectively. No wonder they can’t make up their minds as to a defensive alignment or batting order…

An oddity for your weekend planning. All four Cubs at #STLCards games this weekend will start at different times.

An article in the StL. paper written by the guy touted as the Redbird’s lead writer tells me, “The next time Flaherty is scheduled to pitch for the Cardinals is a few hours after Tuesday’s trade deadline, and he does not expect to make that start, not at Busch Stadium.” The article also mentioned that Flaherty said the likliehood of him being traded is, “Something you kind of know. You get a feeling of the way things are going and the way they’re going about it. It’s a business.” I hope he’s right because he hasn’t wanted to be in StL. for at least the past 2 or 3 seasons, so I hope he finds a new home so Jack can be happy and smile every now and then. Flaherty was also quoted in the article in regards to returning to the Cardinals once he becomes a FA that, “He’ll leave the door open”…Haha! Johnny must have been tutoring Jack in the fine art of double talk.
Yeah, it’s a little odd, BW. And this isn’t the only series in which the times are all scrambled with no clear pattern. I took a look at start times for other teams and they all seem to stick to a distinct pattern that coincide with either a day/night game, or getaway day. It’s no big deal, but with all the odd times I’d probably have to pay close attention to keep from being late and missing first pitch and that would ruin my whole day…Haha!
Din din today here in hot SW Indiana is 2-3 White Castle Hamburger Sliders and a couple ears of Aces High Sweet Corn. Along with an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew and some Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream for dessert.
I had to get a haircut earlier today and when I got home I jumped on the John Deere and mowed the yard. Sure was hot out there. I’ve got cleaned up and cooled off now and about to have my din din. Then later tonight me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch for the game along with a couple of 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigars.
I am going to call this one 8-2 Redbirds with Paulie Poo Goldschmidt jacking another one. Jacking a homerun, that is.

Mikolas (R) vs. Justin Steele (L)Tonight will be the 10th meeting this year between the two teams but the first time at Busch. Not a fan of that scheduling quirk.
The last significant trade between the Cards and Cubs was Leon Durham and Ken Reitz for Bruce Sutter in December of 1980.
I’ve looked all over StL. and can’t find any of the type of beef hot links that they serve up in parts of Texas and Louisiana. I’ve tried quite a few around here that had a similar appearance while packaged, but once cooked and served up simply didn’t have the flavor or texture of those spicy hot links served up in the eastern portion of Texas and at some places in the Dallas area. I grew weary of spending money on them only to be disappointed, so I pretty much gave up on finding any around here. Anyone have a source for those types of links in the StL. area?
TD these I have are just the grocery store kind. The next time I’m up to Kenricks I’ll see if they make those, or perhaps if they could and would. I assume you are talking about those New Orleans hot sausages not the Andouille. My brother used to send them to me packed with dry ice when he lived in Beaumont. Now he’s near Galveston and says he can’t find them.

With a strong performance out of Miles Tice Mikolas and a modicum of luck, we just might be able to steele one this evening. I have experienced a rather strong vibrant epiphany coming into this 4 game set vs our arch rivals. Jordan Alexander Walker should have himself one whale of a series.
What’s for din-din tonight one may ask? Well, it’s not quite on par with what will be gracing Rat’s or Cardinal In France’s dinner table, but it’ll do for this bachelor in paradise. An Oscar Meyer all beef bologna sandwich with mayo, baked beans drenched in apple cider vinegar, potato chips with sour cream and orange Kool aid. No dessert tonight gang, as I’m starting to eyeball the ole’ waistline a bit. Stay safe in the Windy City, BicycleMike. We will expect a full report on your memorabilia activity.
Thanks, Bling. I’ve tried several brands in the past from most all of the grocery stores around here. They look like the real McCoy, but they aren’t. I remember thinking the appearance was designed to hoodwink you into buying them…Haha! At any rate, that’s where I was first introduced to them years ago in the Beaumont/Pt. Arthur/Neches area of east Texas. Heck, down there you could get a good one with all the fixings for take out in a gas station or convenience store at any time of the day or night. Another regional treat from that area that I miss is Boudain, but I don’t even try to find any around here. At any rate, them red hot links is good eatin’ and I’ll always be willing to suffer through a little heartburn after attacking a couple of them.
Speaking of Boudin, I had never heard of or even imagined crawfish Boudin until my brother took me to a crab shack type place down from the ballpark there at the College in Beaumont. It was the mid 80s and a Texas Ldeague team was based there at the time. The only thing I remember about the game is a young John Kruk hit one that cleared the fence by at least 50 feet.
