So Happ lets go of his bat with one hand and the follow through nails Contreras, who has to come out. Mikolas brushed Happ back and then hits him with a soft pitch in the rump. Mikolas gets ejected, Marmol gets ejected, Hudson in to pitch. Knizner in.
I don’t think I remember seeing a pitcher tossed without there being a warning. Hudson hasn’t pitched in five days, so should be able to eat some innings. If he can find the plate.
Watching the Cubs laughing at the Cards, I am wondering if there will be some benches emptying at some point this weekend.

I always have to laugh at the Diet Bud commercial that shows all the pretty people standing around in the mud and the pouring rain with their Bud Lights…They’ve even got their beers open and all that rain water’s getting into the cans…Haha! Where do they get these types of people?
I disagree with Chip…….I came to the ball yard tonight solely to watch the home plate ump call balls and strikes. It’s hands down the best part of this game we all so love.
First inning was totally ridiculous. After that comedy it makes you want to just have the team walk off the field. This recent war of the umpires is getting old. What do they do to you if you just come up to bat and push one over? They look kinda top heavy in all that gear.
There have been a lot of unpleasant things about this year, but other than watching PDJ play SS all year I think watching Hudson pitch is right up there! Always looks like he is about to cry, doesn’t want to be here etc! Get his butt gone!
Oh yeah, and I’m sure it pays a handsome scale, but what I was driving at is what sorts of people are intrigued and attracted to the notion of, “Hey, it looks like it’d be a whole lot of fun to go stand out in the mud and driving rain and drink a couple of cans of Diet Bud!”…Haha!
Mikolas won’t go tomorrow, but if they deal Flaherty, they might just move Mikolas up a day to take the Monday start.
I’m with you regarding DeJong at SS, Steve60. If someone would have told me last winter that he’d be the primary SS for almost the entire ’23 season, I’d have needed to repair the holes in the plaster board in our den…
Missed the first inning action, but from what I’ve read here and heard from the game commentary, good on Mikolas and bad on the 2nd base ump. Hope it ignites our offense. Should have been a warning to Mikolas first, doesn’t sound like that happened.
Walker played that hard hit fly ball to RF from Bellinger like it came off the bat of a RH’ed hitter. His path was initially to his to his right. You new that baseball was going to hook back towards his left as if a slicing line drive from a RH’ed hitter would shade towards the RF foul line.
