Arenado throttles a solo blow to left and it’s a 5-2 Cardinal lead now. And with Waino on cruise control, this one is looking mighty good.

I vacated Phoenix about 25 years ago, so it wasn’t me, BicycleMike. He kind of looked like RatsBuddy to me, but two things were missing…..no dog and no cigar.
He sure is and he destroyed that baseball. It’s a shame the Cardinals have two of the best players in the NL and haven’t been able to compete this season. With those two guys and the remainder of some pretty solid posotion players I believe they’d have won the NLC if they’d been afforded just a shred of decent pitching, but they couldn’t even provide that. It’s too bad.
Waino mows the first two down here in the 5th giving him 9 consecutive outs, but now a walk ends that streak. Marte then singles to right and now Waino is looking at runners on the corners with Corbin Carroll strolling towards the dish. Carroll flies out to right and no damage inflicted. Waino and Nelson both at 76 pitches and the Cards maintain their 5-2 advantage heading to the 6th.
Yeah, no cigar’s a dead giveaway. My dad smoked White Owls and unless it’s a formal photo, I’m hard pressed to find pictures of him without his ever present cigar…Haha! He smoked those things like he was mad at them, but never in the house which is why he spent practically all his time in either the garage or the patio. He had a TV, fridge, a couple of lounge chairs, table, an old couch, fan, and an assortment of space heaters out there…Haha!
Cards go down in the 6th with DeJong’s single being the only minor blemish on Nelson’s pitching ledger.
Stratton on for St. Louis in the 6th and Christian Walker wallops one of his hanging breaking balls high up into the left field rafters cutting the Cardinal lead to 5-3. Oh oh…….Arenado boots a routine grounder and Arizona has a runner at 1st with nobody out. Come on fellows……need to preserve this lead for Waino. Rivera walks and this inning is not shaping up to be good one for the Birds. Need a DP right here and right now. Find the plate Stratton……find the plate! Stratton strikes out McCarthy and we have a glimmer of hope now to escape this inning with the lead. Stratton K’s Kelly and I’m momentarily loving life again…..Thomas on 3-2 walks and the bases are juiced for Perdomo and that’ll do it for Stratton.
Oh yeah, he loved the Redbirds, but he could watch almost any baseball game at any level of play and enjoy himself. Baseball was his favorite, but he enjoyed almost all competitive team sports and really encouraged my younger brother and myself to participate in baseball and basketball. And although both my brother and I played HS football, he discouraged us from doing so simply because he ruined his left knee when he played. Back in his day they didn’t have the fancy surgery and he had a scar on his knee that looked like he had his entire leg re-attatched. When we were little kids, he used to tell my brother and me that Dr. Frankenstein put him together…Haha!
JoJo Romero on for the Cards to face the switch hitting Perdoma, who will bat right handed vs the Redbird lefty…..and he’s immediately plunked…..ouch that hurt both Perdomo and we Cardinal fans …..a double-hitter if you will ……5-4 Birds. Come on JoJo you’re better than this. Marte grounds out to end the inning and as bad as this inning was, it could have been much worse.
This Adams guy for Arizona has a distinctive delivery from the mound, kind of like how our Addams guy does from the PBP booth.
Near stuff, TD! Your dad sounds like someone you definitely didn’t want to cross. It’s people like him who made this country great. I don’t think we produce nearly as many like him any more and unfortunately, this country will pay for that one day……fingers crossed that it’s not too bad.
Romero dealing for the Cards in the 7th. Walker stings us again with a one out single. Gurriel flies out to O’Neill in left. I really like this Romero guy……I think he’s a keeper. Rivera dumps a short and soft popper into left-center for a hit with Walker pulling up stakes at 1st and taking up new residence at 3rd base…..and they’re coming to get JoJo. New pitcher coming in. We need to preserve this one for Waino.
Haha!…He worked for the railroad, Mo-Pac, so he’d go on a run out of town for 2 or 3 days at a time and about the only way we’d “cross” him or make him mad is if he got a bad report on us from mom when he got back home. He used to say, “I have to follow her rules, so you two had darn well better do the same”…Haha! He always made sure we understood that just because he wasn’t around for a day or two didn’t mean we could take advantage and run roughshod and misbehave just because our mom wasn’t the threat he was. Other than that, he wasn’t at all strict and liked to laugh, joke and have fun. My uncle, his brother, was the the same way.
Gallegos center stage for the Cards here with 2 out and runners straddling 1st & 3rd ……ouch ouch ouch! Longoria doubles two in and Arizona seizes a 6-5 lead ……that was literally like getting stung by a wasp on your right upper eyelid……
Alrighty, Waino lost his chance for a “W”, but this game certainly has not been decided. Let’s put a little spunk on display and come back and clip these guys.
Our coaches need to have a meeting with the bullpen and explain to them their job is to hold leads not give them up! It has been so long since they have held a lead I feel sure they have forgotten!

That’s my dream job, TD. There’s just something about trains. We have a cabin in between Portage and Briggsville that we used to go every now and then and it was so quiet at night…. except for the sound of trains off in the distance every now and then …..very soothing. Plus, I’ve always had a fantasy to just go out and jump onto a train and be a hobo for a week or two. Of course I’ll never do it, but the thought sounds intriguing.

He seemed to like it okay, Pugs. He’d ride out of town for 2 or 3 days and then sometimes have 3 or 4 days off in a row. What he didn’t like was that sometimes he’d have to be on call for a couple of days at a time and they might need a guy at 2 or 3 am. We’d wake up and he’d be gone. But they had a decent pay scale and a real good pension and my mom lived well off of that for quite a few years once he was he gone.
Did Motter beef up since his last stint in StL? Memphis ribs might be too hard to lay off of, kind of like breaking balls in the dirt. Speaking of ribs, my 4-legged female companion and I ate a whole rack of baby backs from Mission BBQ tonight. She was savage. Wife was not here for dinner, so we ate more than we needed.
I’m sure opposing fans everywhere get nervous when Goldy steps in, but especially in AZ. They’ve seen him for a long time and it seems like he’s hurt his former team quite a bit since he’s been a Redbird.
