I’ve noticed the same about Walker a few times over the first few games. He’ll get much better because he’s a great athlete, but the growing pains might really hurt here and there.

Yep, and he is still learning playing the outfield. It looks like he is being a bit over-cautious, not wanting to let a ball get by him. Probably a little unsure that he can make the play.

I watched my son take one right below his left eye in an American Legion game, Euro. He was fortunate in that he got his mitt up to deflect the baseball and absorb most of the impact. He wanted to stay in there…Haha!

Carlson’s had some real nice AB’s to this point in the season. He scorched a ball to RF for an out in his first AB tonight.

I can’t recall the last time I saw a pitcher cleanly glove a comebacker.

1td, he was rolling on adrenaline at that point. Bet he had a headache later that night and it hurt like heck the next day. Forget about being on the mound, now in my early 60s, I would not even be completely comfortable standing at a depth of deep shortstop on a live major league diamond.

Got that treasured 2 out RBI base hit and then ran right out of the inning. Oh well, 3 run game.

Acuna played that ball by Contreras the right away, going all out for it rather than waiting for the bounce. Walker will learn that as he gains confidence.

Oh, he had a gorgeous looking shiner for a little while Euro, but he was okay. Like I mentioned, if he wouldn’t have got his mitt up to deflect the baseball, it may well have killed him. At any rate, it probably scared me more than it hurt him.

Matz through 5 now. If he gets through the 6th with no runs, he’ll be just one run off of a “quality start.” You gotta love that stat.

Yeah, Euro, no place on an IF is a bargain unless you have the skills and reflexes that are only present in a young man, but that pitcher’s in the act of following through with his delivery. He’s still off balance and his head is normally about belt high at that point. At least an IF’ers up on his toes and ready. At least if he has a sense of survival he his…Haha!

This Dodd kid was right in our back yard. For those of you who follow the draft real close, who did we pick ahead of him? They said he was picked in the third round in 2021 I believe, pick #96. Think that was it. Anyone know? This is not a trivia question as I don’t know and was wondering who we drafted ahead of this kid.

1td, I pitched in high school. Threw across my body, coaches wanted me to change it so I’d land in a better position to react as a fielder. I never worried about being able to protect myself, of course I wasn’t facing major leaguers and I’m much smarter now, lol.

Haha! That’s probably why conscription is normally reserved for 18 to 25 year olds…

I had to look it up, but here’s what I found.

Michael McGreevy (18), Joshua Baez (54), Ryan Holgate (70), Austin Love (90)

I looked him up, Bikemike. Don’t know how accurate the info is, but BR leads me to understand he was drafted at some point in the 3rd round. Also says he played at SEMO which is down around Cape Girardeau in Mo. about 100 miles South of where he’s working in tonight’s ballgame.

I don’t follow the prospects too close until they get right about ready for the bigs, with the occasional exception of a guy like Walker. But McGreevy and Baez are decent prospects. With the Cardinals propensity to go for left handed pitching, I wonder how this kid slipped by.

Still way too early to tell how his career will go of course, but he has made a quick ascent to the big leagues.

Decision to send O’Neill home looked doomed every step of the way.

Man, you gotta be kid’n. I didn’t think there was any way Acuna would throw out the baserunner at HP with O’Neill running. Nice play by the RF’er.

I can’t recall the season or who it was, but the Redbirds had a 3B coach fairly recently who took a lot of criticism as the result of a multitude of Cardinal baserunners getting thrown out at HP. Anyone remember that, or who it was?

Acuna fielding the ball in fairly shallow RF, with his momentum moving in the direction of the up coming throw, all before O’Neill hits 3B, probably isn’t working out very often. The part that really got me scared was O’Neill didn’t look to be running at full speed when the camera moved on him as he rounded the bag. Not sure if he was surprised he was being sent, or he rounded the bag awkwardly, or the quick shot of him fooled me into thinking that. Being thrown out by 12 feet is never pretty, lol.

Yes 1td. Pretty sure you’re talking about Rene Lachemann. Or maybe not, since you said recently. He was back during Big Mac’s years.

ATL sure hasn’t brought any oven mitts for this game. They’ve featured quite a few nice defensive plays tonight. A collection of really nice gloves worn by the opposition can be demoralizing to say the least.

Finally getting to watch my first cardinal action of the year. My cable is still messing up but it’s tolerable. Didn’t get to see a lot but overall I think we are fine. First time seeing walker in action. He’s a big boy. I’m not a fan of his stance im the box but if it’s worked for him then so be it. Verhagen pitched well I thought. Really we have been in the game the whole time, just not getting the big hit mostly though we did get one but a good defensive play snuffed that out. Atlanta is a real good team so no shame in losing
