Top of 5. Cy Steele starts this inning having thrown only 44 pitches over the first 4 innings for an average of 11 pitches per inning …. how’s that for flashing a little math at you guys?

Sosa grounds out to Madrigal at 2nd base.

Donovan flies out to Morel in center.

Edman blisters a base hit to center.

Goldy taps one past Steele and out to Wisdom who barehands it and his throw to 1st will skip on by Schwindel and the Birds will have runners at 2nd and 3rd. Infield hit and an E-5 on the throw.

Arenado lines one…past Steele and out into center field for a base hit….in comes Tommy E. with Goldy heading home too and just like that this game is tied at 2 and the Redbirds are finally starting to penetrate Steele in this ballgame.

Albert grounds it up the middle but there’s Madrigal to glove it and then take a couple of hops and step on the bag for the out.

    Bottom of 5.

Morel shoots a grounder out Sosa’s way at short and he’ll field it and throw him out at 1st base.

Contreras flies out to Bader about 5 feet in front of the center field warning track.

Happ grounds it to Goldy about 10 feet in back of the bag at 1st and Goldy will underhand feed his pitcher at 1st base to retire the side.

Waino now at 74 pitches thru 5 complete.

Top of 6. When was the last time that Waino didn’t register one K in his first 5 innings of work? We just may have to check with Skippy and all of the fine folks over at the esteemed Elias Sports Bureau for that answer.

Pez walks on 4 straight balls, though that last pitch looked mighty darn good to have been called a ball.

Bader called out on strikes on a 3-2 high heater and Bader doesn’t like that call one bit.

Yadi dribbles it right in front of the plate where Contreras pounces on it and fires it down to 2nd for one and the throw to 1st will get Yadi with time to spare to complete the DP.

    Bottom of 6.

Schwindel grounds out to Arenado at 3rd.

Wisdom smokes it down the line and into left field and it’ll skip on up into the seats for a ground rule double.

Ortega …base hit to right and Donovan is coming up throwing……he got him! Wisdom is out at home on a beautiful throw from Donovan to keep this game tied . And the cubbies want this play reviewed. And it’s an unsuccessful attempt as the call stands

Hoerner flies out to Donovan in right.

    Top of 7.

Sosa grounds it to Wisdom at 3rd and his throw to 1st is not on the money, but Schwindel will swipe tag Edmundo to register the out.

Donovan grounds out routinely to Madrigal at 2nd base.

    Edman walks.

Goldy flies out to Happ in short left field where Happ didn’t exactly epitomize confidence in catching that routine opportunity.

    Steele now at 94 pitches.

    Bottom of 7.

Heyward flies out to Pez in left.

Madrigal lines it just over Sosa’s outstretched glove at short and out into left field for a hit.

Morel …on 0-2 the cub center fielder pops out to Edman at 2nd.

Contreras on 3-2 walks on one off the outside corner.

Happ grounds out to Edman at 2nd….whew.

Top of 8. Scott Effross on for Chicago.

Arenado chops a one hopper to Hoerner at short who fields it and his throw to 1st will make Schwindel elevate some and he successfully does haul it in to register the out.

    Gorman(Phing for Albert)….on 3-2 strikes out looking.

Pez grounds out to Hoerner at short.

Bottom of 8. Genesis (properly pronounced “Hen-a-sis”) “Cabby” Cabrera on for the Cards. You gotta love what Cabby has been putting on display this year.

    Schwindel strikes out swinging.

Wisdom smashes a double to the left center field ivy…..come on Cabby.

Higgins lifts a ball in the air down the line in right that’ll fall in for an rbi double….ouch! cubs lead 3-2 and they’re looking for more.

Hoerner pops out to Edman at 2nd.

Heyward golfs a liner smack dab right into Goldy’s glove at 1st, but the damage was done. Well let’s get a couple in the 9th and make a winner of Cabby Cabrera shall we?

If they can’t score runs they won’t win. Yesterday it was Cy Swarmer and tonight it was Cy Steele.

Not sure what the problem is on offense but the hit and miss offense isn’t cutting it.

Top of 9. Rowan Wick looking to close matters out for Chicago.

Bader cracks it deep to center!….Morel drifts back and it’s off the wall and heading towards right field as Bader races around 2nd base and heading towards 3rd and he’ll make it there safely with a head first slide…. leadoff triple.

Yadi skies one to short right field and with Hayward out there it’ll be no dice as far as Bader trying to score is concerned…..and Harrison will indeed stand pat at 3rd base.

Nooty ….lines a base hit to center and the Nootster has tied this baby up at 3!

Donovan on 3-2 grounds out to 1st with Nooty taking 2nd.

    Edman grounds out to short

Bottom of 9. Cabby still pitching for the Cards. Donovan moves from right field to 2nd base and Edman from 2nd to short.

Madrigal pops out to Donovan at 2nd base.

Morel strikes out looking on a dandy of a curve…. that’s the Cabby we all know and love.

    Contreras strikes out swinging.

We’re going to extras in a 3-3 ballgame.

Top of 10. Daniel Norris, no relation to Chuck, on for Chicago. Tommy E. will start this inning on 2nd base.

    Goldy strikes out looking.

Arenado ….and he should get mad here as the cubbies are not showing him much respect by not walking him in this situation. Nolan hits it high and deep to center but unfortunately not deep enough as Morel will catch it at the track and Edman moves over to 3rd base.

Gorman strikes out swinging….go go….the ball gets past the catcher…and Gorman gets thrown out at 1st…..very close to the Cards scoring here but they come up empty handed.

Bottom of 10. Cabby still on for St. Louis. Contreras starts the inning on 2nd base.

Happ gets jammed as he bounces a slow roller to a charging Edman at short who gloves it and throws him out at 1st base with Contreras moving over to 3rd.

    Wisdom intentionally walked.

Frazier couldn’t check his swing and that’s strike out #4 for Cabby.

Higgins bounces it back to Cabby and he’ll toss it on over to 1st for the out….whew!

Top of 11. Norris still pitching. Simmons playing SS, Wisdom 1st base and Hoerner moves over to 3rd. Gorman starts this inning on 2nd base.

Pez lines a base hit to center and here comes Nolan Gorman with the go ahead tally….4-3 Good Guys!

Bader sends a grounder out to Simmons at short who throws to Madrigal at 2nd for one and the throw to 1st won’t have a preacher’s prayer of getting the fleet footed Harrison Bader.

Yadi strikes out looking and that called strike looked higher than a kite …no way that’s a strike and amazingly Yadi didn’t utter a word of protest.

    Nooty on 3-2 walks.

Donovan strokes it down the right field line on a fly for a hit and in comes Bader on the Donovan double….5-3 Cards. And this Donovan kid has Cardinal fans thinking that he’s a viable RoY candidate. Runners at 2nd & 3rd.
