Bottom of 8. Luis Garcia center stage for SD.

Edman hits a slow roller to the right side that the 1st baseman Cronenworth comes in to field and he’ll feed the ball to his pitcher Garcia at 1st base to register the out.

    Goldy strikes out.

Arenado…..oh for a long one here. Arenado on 3-2 blisters a liner into center for a base hit.

Albert smokes a liner into center for a hit….the ball is hit much too hard for Arenado to venture any further than 2nd base.

Nooty…..oh for just a base hit here….Nooty grounds out to 2nd.

Well can nooty come up big here. Has struggled but a big hit here would get the juices flowing.

Top of 9. Ryan Helsley the new St. Louis main man.

Cronenworth walks on 4 straight misguided ones.

Voit …oh oh….oh goodie this is playable as Voit strokes it high and deep to left, but Nooty is going to glove it on the track for the out. Boy when that ball left Voit’s bat it had “Homer” written all over it…..I don’t get fooled like that all that often.

Myers flies out to Donovan in deep right field and hitters are uncharacteristically getting some decent wood on Helsley pitched baseballs tonight.

Cano grounds it right out to Goldy who was positioned right near the 1st base bag and Goldy will take two little steps to close out the Padre 9th with no damage inflicted.

Bottom of 9. Suarez on for SD.

Yadi raps a high chopper out to the surging Alcantara at short and he’ll glove it and throw Yadi out by a couple of steps at 1st.

Sosa rockets a shot down into the left field corner and Sosa will check into 2nd base with a double.

Bader first pitch swinging pops it up behind home plate….and the catcher Alfaro will catch it for out #2.

Donovan walks…..and that will result in a meeting at the mound by 5 Padre players and their pitching coach.

Edman flies out to Profar in left and we are heading for extras.

That was a horrible at bat by bader. That’s why I say he’s not clutch. It’s nice you are looking fastball but you also got to look location on first pitch. Just wildly swinging doesn’t cut it.

Well we are going extras. I don’t like the extra inning rule but at least edman will be at second base.

Donovan hit a foul grounder that hit the cheek of his own rear end. You don’t see that often. Moving on to free baseball.

I really thought Tommy E. was going to answer Euro Dandy and Willie’s calls to walk off with the win….. we’ll still get these guys, gentlemen.

Top of 10. Verhagen on for the Cards. Azocar will start off the inning at 2nd base for the Pads.

Kim hits a little humpback liner behind short and out into short left-center field….and Sosa races out and will make a whale of a running catch….nice play!

    Alfaro strikes out looking.

    Grisham on 3-2 walks.

Jurickson Profar on 0-2 lines a base hit to left….Nooty is coming up throwing and we’ll have a play at the plate……and they nail Azocar! Beautiful throw by Nooty to keep this game deadlocked at 2.

Pugs is in rare PBP form tonight. Only the best can work in a whale and humpback reference on the same play with the panache fitting of a Scully or Buck. Almost as important, Nootbaar is in rare outfield assist form tonight.

Bottom of 10. Taylor Rogers now pitching for SD. Tommy E. will commence this inning at 2nd base. Hosmer now playing 1st base for SD.

Goldy is intentionally walked….and who could blame them?

Arenado pops out to Hosmer in foul turf a few feet off the 1st base bag.

Edman swipes 3rd. Now just a routine Pujols fly ball seals this deal.

Albert lines a shot to left…..that Profar catches and here’s his throw home…..safe….. ballgame! Cards win it 3-2.

    Your merry final:

    St. Louis Cardinals 3
    San Diego Padres 2

Tommy Edman literally and figuratively stole the game. Sort of I guess. WALK IT OFF.

Tommy E. sure did steal it, Euro & Willie. Great ballgame. The only tragedy in this ballgame besides the Gallegos gopher ball, was Waino not getting the win. But oh well, Cards get the win and that trumps all.

Thanks Euro! I had not even realized the usage of “humpback” and “whale” in the same sentence until you brought it up.

Wow that was a close one! Its a winner. Galleagos actually was good except for that one pitch center-center of zone. Helsley barely kept them on the park too. Both those deep outs were center-center too. Kinda scary. Gotta give Waino credit. Tommy ended up the star but actually he was the only 0fer tonight.Nados alive again 2 hits and a walk for 4abs. Old man Albert 2 huge rbi’s. Good game- Go Cardinals!
