I wonder if Marmol just became the youngest manager to win a division title?
September 27, 2022 at 10:22 pm #202662Good to see Pujols soaked in champagne in a Cardinal clubhouse again.
September 27, 2022 at 10:25 pm #202663Nice for you that might go. I’m not going to the WC games, but would try hard to make it to Games 3 & 4 of NLDS. Went to Games 3 & 4 against the Braves a few years ago. Playoff baseball is a rush for me. Even more so in person the few times I’ve done it.
What’s the best playoff game you guys have ever seen live? I would love to see a WS game, haven’t done that yet. Son and I did get to see Cards destroy Kershaw and clinch over the Dodgers in Game 6 of the NLCS in 2013. That was the game Matt Carpenter fouled off about a dozen pitches before getting a hit.
September 27, 2022 at 10:36 pm #202666EuroDandy…Sadly, I’m 0-3 in WS games. I won’t go into the tragic details…Haha! I’d have to say the best post-season game I’ve ever been to is game 3 of the ’06 NLCS. I recaptured my relative youth seeing the Redbirds win 5-0 against a team that I had hated since my mid 20’s. Game 1 of the ’82 NLCS is a good memory as well, simply because the Cardinals hadn’t done anything since I was still a young boy.
September 27, 2022 at 10:49 pm #202667Molina’s played in 102 post-season games thus far and will undoubtedly play in at least 2 more. That’s getting up there into Jeter territory.
September 27, 2022 at 10:51 pm #202668HAHA…Little Eddie looks a little drunk!
September 27, 2022 at 10:57 pm #2026691td, I’ve used Stubhub every time I’ve been to playoff games. I assume they are still the primary reseller platform, since I haven’t done it since 2019. Never a problem getting tickets through them if you are willing to pay their premium.
September 27, 2022 at 11:15 pm #202670EuroDandy…I’m not really entirely up to speed on any of these new ticket sales sources, but I see the one you mentioned all the time in advertising. The last time I actually bought a post-season ticket on my own was outside of Busch Memorial Stadium about two hours prior to first pitch from an old fashioned conventional scalper…Haha! I’m more than reasonably certain you’ll do fine with an outfit like stub-hub. My son goes through them a lot, as well as some others. A lot of people buy them only for the reason of resale, or so I’m told. I know he paid a big premium for some seats when we went to the first Cardinal/Yankee game this season on Aug. 5th. They were really nice seats and he wouldn’t tell me what he paid for them, so I know it set him back some pretty good coinage.
September 27, 2022 at 11:34 pm #202671Yep, with stubhub you can get pretty much what you want. I’ve used them for a lot of regular season games. Also have used them for NFL and tennis. They always have tickets, but I have not gone to live events since Covid derailed things. Ironically, I have retired since then and the wife and I have much more time for this stuff now. I’ve put her on notice for the NLDS. She probably hopes the Cards lose the WC now, lol.

September 28, 2022 at 6:48 am #202678Very happy this season turned into a playoff appearance. Hoping for the best because in May and June this team sure didn’t look to be a contender. Good on these guys for getting it done. Now it’s all fun.
On a side note, praying for those in Southwest Florida today. They need us all praying for them during and after this storm.

I think that may be true. I did a quick search and this is what I came up with:
Tony La Russa, 1983 CWS, age 38
Buck Showalter, 1994 NYY, age 38
Rocco Baldelli, 2019 MIN, age 38
Eric Wedge, 2007 CLE, age 39
Kevin Cash, 2022 TB, age 42
Alex Cora, 2018 BOS, age 43 (won WS)
A.J. Hinch, 2017 HOU, age 43 (won WS)Baldelli is youngest ever to win Manager of the Year.
September 28, 2022 at 8:05 am #202686I think Marmol must also be one of the youngest managers ever period.
Do we think Schildt would have done about the same this season with this team? Why or why not?
Did Marmol have any say over the long stretch DeJong spent in Memphis? That opened up opportunities.
September 28, 2022 at 8:50 am #202688BW…I thought he might be. I tried to look it up myself, but didn’t have any luck. At any rate congrats to him if he is indeed the youngest. Nice way to get started.
September 28, 2022 at 9:15 am #202689A reader query sent me down a rabbit hole this AM. My quick unscientific research is that #stlcards first-year manager Oliver Marmol appears to be the youngest division-winner in MLB history, The 36-year-old could also take two other honors ahead. I was at Game 3 of the 2013 World Series when Allan Craig scored the winning run on interference from the 3B. That was wild.
September 28, 2022 at 11:48 am #202699so-cal card that Nooty doing interviews was a riot- beer in his other hand telling Knizer he saw him in the weight room “really pushing that 25 lb dumbell!” LOL!
September 28, 2022 at 12:11 pm #202703I thought a few years back the Cards instituted an alcohol free club house policy?

Ah, same year we saw the NLCS clincher. Bet that was a blast for you. I’m starting to think of going to a WS game like a bucket list item. But the Cards have to cooperate and get there again — I’m 63! My son and I have wondered how great it must’ve felt to be there when Freese walked off Game 6 in 2011.

It was definitely a blast. It certainly wasn’t cheap but I figured I might not get another opportunity, plus my son was 11 at the time so hopefully it will be a life long memory for him too.
September 28, 2022 at 2:16 pm #202709The best post-season game I ever attended was game 6 of the 1993 World Series. With the Blue Jays trailing the Phillies 6-5 Joe Carter hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the 9th to walk off the series. I seem to recall it was only the second time in history the series was won with a walk-off potato after Mazeroski did it for the Pirates in 1960. Actually I saw all of the Blue Jays WS home games in 92 and 93 as I was working in Toronto at the time and had temporarily given my allegiance to birds of a different color.
September 28, 2022 at 2:38 pm #202711CIF, that’s real nice. I watched that one live too — but on TV!
September 28, 2022 at 2:48 pm #202712gscott, funny you mention that about your son, and he will never forget it. A few years after we saw the Game 6 2013 NLCS clincher, my son told me that was one of the best things we ever did together (he likes the Cards a lot too). After the game, things were hopping in the area, so we didn’t go back to the hotel for a while. Strolled around, sat down at a restaurant, bought some pizza, and it was also the first time I bought him a beer (he was 21 then!).
September 28, 2022 at 3:32 pm #202713That is awesome Euro!
