LeGrand…Oh, okay. I was under the impression that the proposed Budweiser name was scrapped before it was indeed put into place. Nevertheless, the beer guy was pretty shrewd in the method he used to work around the objections voiced by league execs.
September 18, 2022 at 2:37 pm #20132260 years ago…. my grandfather owned his own semi and he used to haul beer and empty beer bottles between Indy, Cinci and Chicago. He always had various brands of beer, in his basement, at his bar.
Someone mentioned Falstaff earlier. I remember he had that… and he also used to drink Blatz.
He also had one of those big old Pool Tables that he got from a pool hall somewhere. The kind with real thick slate and big square legs. I loved that pool table.

ParticipantWell still no offense. Did finally scratch a hit off a guy with a era over 5. Really sad. Monty is doing his job.

TS…In my travels I’ve encountered many taverns whose back bar is adorned with 100 beer cans/bottles I had never seen before, some unopened! (and none are for sale)
September 18, 2022 at 2:50 pm #201325Great stories on some of our baseball journies. I was 10 years old in ‘63 when the family was on a summer vacation in our 1959 Rambler station wagon. The trip included a visit to a college buddy of my dad who lived in Wood River, IL. Hence the Cardinal game. We saw that Cards-Braves game on a Saturday, then Sunday saw the Cards take on the Cubs in an old fashioned double header.
Man, such great times. Was a bit too young for the Polo Grounds or Ebbetts Field, although I guess when the Mets used the Polo Grounds I could have seen a game there. But I never made it to New York until 1997.
September 18, 2022 at 2:51 pm #201326Tscurlo…Although the period was before my time, almost all of the old guys I used to talk to agreed that Falstaff once outsold AB products here in St.Louis, and it was the only beer I ever remember my dad drinking. It was brewed by Lemp Brewing Co. and although I don’t know what it’s used for, the old brick brewery building still exists in south StL. It was once one of the largest breweries in the U.S. In any case, even as an adult I saw many taverns that displayed the Falstaff logo signs mounted on the outside above the doors of their establishments.

ParticipantHard enough to watch this offensive draught, but against a team who’s staff ranks 28th in ERA out of 30 teams?
September 18, 2022 at 3:02 pm #201328Montgomery pitching really well today. Problem is I guess Cessa is too? DeJong with the only hit today? Willie wake ’em up!
September 18, 2022 at 3:02 pm #201329bccran…With all the beer brand chatter, while reading your comment and seeing “offensive draught” I couldn’t help but to think of a bad tasting beer served on tap…Haha!

ParticipantMarmol takes out Monty about three batters too late, shouldn’t have started inning. Was already at 90 pitches or so.
September 18, 2022 at 3:06 pm #201331Poor guy, just couldn’t get no help
1September 18, 2022 at 3:07 pm #201332The hole just got deeper. Gotta do better now.
September 18, 2022 at 3:07 pm #201333After the HR by Fairchild, Edmonds says, “That just puts the icing on the cake.” What? Number one…Who’s side are you on, Jimmy? Number two…It’s only the 6th inning, Jimmy!

ParticipantWell goldy, edman aren’t in there, two of our better hitters. Bottom part sucks, top half that is there isn’t doing anything. Going with Monty one inning too long. Marmol seemed to be taking a day off. Woodford in now..I expect h to do well.
September 18, 2022 at 3:16 pm #201335Guess it’s Danny Mac’s stat on no misses for Montgomerys fastball. Misses on his curves only. That was why the Yankees traded him and didn’t want him to throw his fastball. He attributes his success in St Louis in bring able to use his fastball. Course he’s got special defense to back it up. Doing great in my book but I’m wondering about our offense again. Where did it go too?
September 18, 2022 at 3:20 pm #201336I have to be off, but I’ve seen enough limp wristed at bats anyway. Hope for the best. I’ll check the box later.
September 18, 2022 at 3:24 pm #201337I think Ollie gave the offense the day off today so they’d be well rested for the left coast.
September 18, 2022 at 3:24 pm #201338Later Bling
September 18, 2022 at 3:36 pm #201339Been a while since Gorman’s mashed any taters. He’s due.
September 18, 2022 at 3:36 pm #201340They keep going on and on and on about the Shift…. why don’t they employee the BUNT to counter against the shift???????????? Sounds pretty logical to me!!!
I guess their analytics is against doing that. grrrrrr
September 18, 2022 at 3:36 pm #201341Three rips and a K. Sheesh…
September 18, 2022 at 3:37 pm #2013421982 willie
ParticipantWell that at bat by Gorman just looked like a guy who maybe should still be in A ball. Just threw it by him, not even a sniff of a tipped ball.
September 18, 2022 at 3:39 pm #201343Don’t remember the last time Gorman hit a ball. Must have fouled one off recently?
September 18, 2022 at 3:41 pm #2013441982 willie
ParticipantTo be honest this is one of those games I would turn away from and watch gunsmoke. Yea we could come back but still better to wait for score, maybe watch it on replay. But I’m here so I’ll stay til end. Albert will get one more at bat. Never know
September 18, 2022 at 3:49 pm #201345Have another hot dog and a beer Willie. Make some memories. Did you get a bobble head? Got a Pulhous one yet?
