stlcard25ParticipantDo we assume that Winn is going to be the reason we do NOT pursue a top of the line SS in this upcoming off-season? Correa, Swanson, who else?
I think Winn and Edman would be that reason. Trea Turner and Bogaerts are also free agents, but it’s hard to see St Louis needing a SS at this point, or really just about any position players besides a catcher. The one thing that could change that would be a trade for pitching. The market for starting pitching isn’t super strong this year unless you see the Cards wading into the bidding for DeGrom, Rodon or Verlander.
September 13, 2022 at 6:09 pm #200410When a Redbird leads or is near the top in any WAR category, I always use that to bolster my argument. But I have NO idea how they calculate all that stuff! If it’s an opposing player, I take the position that WAR doesn’t mean anything and is a bunch of nonsense…Haha!
September 13, 2022 at 6:13 pm #200411Yes, bb the bottom line is really good and he is inexpensive. The Cardinals should be doing what the Braves have done…get him on long time contract.
September 13, 2022 at 6:50 pm #200412When that camera man gets close to show a pitcher taking their final warmups on the mound just prior to first pitch, you really get a good idea how big and strong these guys are. I sure wouldn’t want to be situated in the batter’s box facing any of these guys.

stlcard25ParticipantWell, that was an ignominious start to the game.
September 13, 2022 at 6:51 pm #200414The Brewers look like a soft drink cup at a convenience store.
September 13, 2022 at 6:56 pm #200415Yelich was hanging serious numbers for 4 or 5 years and then just disappeared.
September 13, 2022 at 7:06 pm #200417Well, that was an ignominious start to the game.
I would’ve bet a million dollars not to see “ignominious” in a post here tonight. stlcard25 is bringing the lexical heat tonight — nothing like a pennant drive to get the juices flowing. He wants to bury these Brewers, as do I.
Now Edman / Donovan are 1st and 3rd, Goldy up. Ready to tie it up.
September 13, 2022 at 7:06 pm #200418I use Baseball-Reference. I have never liked Fangraphs and never even consider them.
I use both. Then use my eyes to tell me which is right. Like when analytics said Jhonny Peralta was the best defense SS I’m not going to trust that data at all. I tend to not trust a lot of defense data it’s very subjective to input. Statcast has cleared up some with reaction times, distance covered, top speed, and such, but overall your eyes can tell you what you need to see defensively.
September 13, 2022 at 7:06 pm #200419Need to get Goldy back to full throttle.

stlcard25ParticipantThe last 7 games, Goldy and Arenado are each hitting under the Mendoza line. Really need this to be a random cold snap before they heat up again for October.
September 13, 2022 at 7:11 pm #200422stlCard25…Yeah, better now than in 3 weeks. Hopefully it’ll time up perfect.
September 13, 2022 at 7:12 pm #200423Edman gets credit for the stolen base. I guess catcher’s indifference is a very subjective call. Probably more likely to call that in late innings.
September 13, 2022 at 7:13 pm #200424Yep, the 2 days off didn’t pay immediate dividends for Goldy.
September 13, 2022 at 7:15 pm #200425Nice! That 2-0 deficit didn’t hold up too long.
September 13, 2022 at 7:16 pm #200426Evidently the 2 days rest does pay immediate dividends for Arenado.
September 13, 2022 at 7:17 pm #200427EuroDandy…That defensive indifference is entirely up to the official scorer just like an E, but you’re right, they never score it like that early or when it’s still a close game.
September 13, 2022 at 7:18 pm #200428Who doesn’t enjoy a good Counsell facial expression of disgust in the dugout?
September 13, 2022 at 7:19 pm #200429Pugs…..I thought Eddie was already in the HoF?
Give him time, TD ……give him time. Hey I’m having trouble getting Apple to accommodate tonight…… anyone else having problems?
September 13, 2022 at 7:19 pm #200430Albert now only needs 15 RBI’s to tie Ruth for 2nd place all-time.
September 13, 2022 at 7:21 pm #200431That’s what I figured 1td. Never looked it up to see if there are any written criteria for the scorer to use for interpretation.
Now Pujols moves one RBI closer to the Babe. Cards lead 3-2.
September 13, 2022 at 7:21 pm #200432Pugs…Haha! He’s already in my HOF!
September 13, 2022 at 7:26 pm #200433Eddie’s your boy too, TD. It’s really a tough call between TD & GameCard as to who loves Eddie more? If these were the good old days where fan clubs flourished, I think we’d be looking at a co-Eddie fanclub president situation with GameCard and TD at the helm.
September 13, 2022 at 7:30 pm #200434Pugs… Yeah, I’m in no way comparing him to Pujols or Molina, but he’s my favorite Redbird position player since those two guys. The first time Pujols was here, I’d make sure to see his AB’s even if the Cardinals were getting trounced and it was late in the game. I sometimes do the same thing with Eddie…Haha!
