Also BSSO and BSSW+Wainwright deserves better than his 9-9 record would indicate.
Hopefully the lads give him plenty of run support in this one.
Arizona downs Milwaukee again. 2-1 the final. Redbirds up 7.5 games.
And the Evansville Reitz Panthers down the Jasper Wildcats tonight at the Reitz Bowl by the score of 41-14.
Sadly the Mets won when their reliever, former Cardinal Steve Cishek, entered the game with a bucket of gasoline.
Smyly was good against St Louis last time out. Hopefully the tables turn today.
I’d figure that we get Albert at DH or 1B today. Being closeish to Pittsburgh, I’m considering trying to make one of those three games at PNC Park in early October. All the OF bleacher seats are sold, guessing people who think they may catch #700. Good thinking, for sure. It would be cool to catch Albert’s final regular season game, as well as possibly Yadi’s. Looks like it won’t line up for Waino to start any of the games though.
stlcard25…I’d say that’s a sound strategy, 25. PNC has certainly done it’s part in contributing to the gaudy power numbers of the Great Pujols. During his first 11 years as a Cardinal, when he and and his Redbird team would make a visit to PNC, he normally left an impression not at all unlike that of Godzilla cutting a path of destruction through downtown Tokyo…In any event, 700 is certainly within reach and I’m not foolish enough to count him out, but with only 30 games remaining, I’d have to say it’s an outside chance. I’ll be entirely satisfied if he collects 3 more HR’s to eclipse Rodriguez and take over sole possession of 4th place among the all-time leaders in HR’s.
TD… Yep, I went to quite a few games at PNC over the years when Albert was in St Louis. I’m not sure I ever saw a game where Albert didn’t sock a dinger. I recall one game where he hit two.
Hey, maybe I should go on the secondary market and snap up an OF seat. It would only be fair if #700 landed in the hands of a true Cardinal fan, no? 😁

I’d say that it would be a gross miscarriage of justice and a flagrant infringement upon the basic human rights of all Redbird fans if the #700 HR souvenir were to come to rest anywhere other than in the hands of a Cardinal fan…I’ve always maintained that if someone is over the age of 12 wearing a glove and should snag a foul or HR ball, it doesn’t count…However, in this rare case, I’ll make an exception to that rule…Be certain to take your glove!
What is wrong with Goldschmidt? His average has dropped down to .330 which is as low as it’s been for awhile now. He just doesn’t seem to be all that sharp lately. I assume the Dog Days of Summer might be having an affect on him. Hope he snaps out of it soon. He’s only had one really good game the last ten days or so and that was the two homer game at Wrigley last week.

Ratsbuddy…I’m trying to see it in a positive sense insofar as an opportune time for the slight lull in his bat coming at a time when the Redbirds enjoy a comfortable lead in the standings. Hopefully the timing will be perfect and the point at which he’ll once again begin ripping the hide off of the baseball will directly coincide with the start of high stakes baseball in the post-season. Furthermore, I’m hoping that once the terror attacks resume, (and they will) they’ll continue unabated until he and his opposite corner IF teammate slug the Cardinals to a WS Championship.
Everyone knows that Goldy and Nado are the guys that all of us will be counting on to inflict punishment on potential opponents in any given post-season series, but I have a phrase that I apply to the type of player that emerges from nowhere to astonish not only the opposition, but also fans. There’s no logical explanation for this sort of guy. He inexplicably acquires a hot bat at the precise opportune time and makes a tremendous contribution to favorably deciding a LCS, WS, etc. I call it, “The Mickey Hatcher Factor.” My question is, which ballplayer on this Redbird team would you pick to be a favorite to play this uncommon role?
I knew he was taking nice AB’s, but I just noticed that Nootz has collected 39 BB’s in just 209 AB’s. That translates to almost 100 BB’s in 500 AB’s. He must think he’s Joey Votto…

Rats I wish I’d get some of that rain. It was steady for about 20 minutes this morning, but that was it and looking at the radar it’s all going right around me. My yard is dry.

It rained pretty good here around 6:00 this morning for about 15 minutes also.
It will be interesting to see what this lineup does vs the lefty. And later on when they bring a righty in from the pen we’ve got a nice assortment of left handed bats on the bench to bolster the switch hitters.

Votto said something interesting on the broadcast the other night in response to past criticism for being a slugger who likes to walk too much. He said he never looks for walks, but when he gets ahead in counts, he starts looking for very specific pitches that he can barrel, but lays off if he doesn’t get that pitch. That leads to walks, and he feels that’s better than swinging at pitches you’re are not prepared to hit.
I guess with a lefty taking a turn tonight for the Cubbies, Marmol decided Nootz needs a rest. He didn’t look at all tired to me when he tatered-up facing Newcombe last night.
EuroDandy…I’ve found it interesting that if you look at Pujols’ entire career numbers on a site like baseball reference, you’ll notice a big drop off in BB’s after his 2010 season which almost precisely coincides with a large reduction in his overall production numbers and BA, and continuedsfor the second half of his career with the Angels. I’m in no way comparing Votto and Albert, but it always seems to be very difficult to get outstanding hitters to chase pitches out of the strike zone. Even at 42, I haven’t seen Albert chase too many this year. He’s obviously not as quick with the bat as he once was, but he still has the eyes of a fighter pilot.
