August 26, 2022 at 9:58 pm #197802Pugs? I won’t ever doubt your football IQ again. What was anticipated as a blowout turned out to be a crushing loss for the Jasper Wildcats. The Warriors of Evansville Harrison scored on a 80 yd TD pass with about five minutes left to make it 15-13 Jasper. Then Jasper fumbles and Harrison completes a 40 yd TD pass with about a minute to go for the win. 20-15 Evansville Harrison the final.
Of course Jasper’s starting QB was out with an injury. And Jasper fumbled the ball five times. They didn’t deserve to win.
I anticipate me and Whitey Herdog being on the couch for this one.

August 27, 2022 at 10:07 am #197845No problem Rat. Yes, I called the mind boggling, stunning upset by Evansville Harrison over the 34 point favorite Jasper Wildcats. But, it is perfection that I seek and in this case, I fell a bit short of the mark. I pegged Evansville as a 3 point upset victor and yet they won by 5. So I’ll rise up off the turf and brush the dust away and it’s back to the drawing board I’ll go, to continue my quest for betting perfection. I’ll get there…….may God be my judge I’ll get there. Go Cards!
August 27, 2022 at 11:47 am #197848It’s not easy to generate some enthusiasm after last night’s trouncing, but hopefully a nice turn by Montgomery coupled with a some clutch base hits will enable the Redbirds to rebound from a pretty dismal performance last night. At any rate, when you combine mistakes in the form of key E’s and BB’s with a 2 for 10 with RISP when facing a very good ballclub, you can expect the result to look like a mismatch. Redbirds will have to tighten up the slop to compete vs. Atl. in tonight’s game.
August 27, 2022 at 12:13 pm #197850The Muts won yesterday so we are 8.5 behind for 2nd seed. I hope Ollie sits as many of the big K guys as he can. I think we would make more of opportunities putting the ball in play more (and I don’t mean vs their mop up guy when it is meaningless). Hate those Ks with RISP. And hate all Yadi’s meek grounders to short.
August 27, 2022 at 12:39 pm #197851I guess I will ask here since nobody responded on the Flaherty thread.
How did his rehab start go last night? Or was he moved back?
August 27, 2022 at 12:49 pm #197852Bling…The Redbirds did a bit better than I thought they would by limiting the K’s to 7 in 6 IP’ed vs. Strider, but the one that really burned was the K of TO with runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out in the 4th. At that juncture, Atl. held a precarious 2-1 lead and Quintana had not allowed a solitary ER. Strider got the key K when he needed it most. Like you mentioned, if OT can manage to put the ball into play with at least a sac-fly or a GB to the right side, the game’s tied and the complexion of the entire ballgame may have changed.
August 27, 2022 at 1:04 pm #197853Ratsbuddy…According to the local paper the line on Flaherty’s rehab start last night was, 85 pitches in 5.1 IP, 1ER, 4 H’s, 3K’s and 3 BB’s. The article also indicated that Mozeliak and Marmol were planning on reviewing video of his outing and would then make a decision regarding when to activate him. I’ll reserve my decision for when I next see him make an appearance in a Big League ballgame…Haha!
August 27, 2022 at 1:19 pm #197854Hate those Ks with RISP. And hate all Yadi’s meek grounders to short.
Kinda felt like O’Neill would K when that was about the only thing he didn’t need to do. Situational hitting is not his strong suit. And Yadi is killing the team with his low production. Knizner has been doing well the last few weeks. We need more basketball games in Puerto Rico.
August 27, 2022 at 1:29 pm #197856EuroDandy…Yep, Molina looks entirely worn out.
August 27, 2022 at 1:46 pm #197857Molina used to be Mr Clutch but not lately. In fact I don’t remember him hitting much of anything the last few weeks. I’m also off the Albert hitting righties bandwagon. Gotta stay competitive the whole game now. Time for all the babies to come on out! All hands on deck! Gorman needs something. If he can’t make the play maybe slow down.Blindingly whipping it anywhere ain’t workin’ for him. Twice in the last week. Cabby can be way better than he was last night.Tyler not showing much since his rehab or DeJong either. Gonna start calling him Sedan moving the air around at home plate!
A new day and a new game.
Din-din will be pork chops-mac and cheese and mixed veggies!
Go Cardinals!
Oh yeah- Yepez don’t let the ball come down and hit you on the top of your head in the left field corner-give him a batting helmet somebody!August 27, 2022 at 1:53 pm #197858No disrespect intended for all Yadi with all he’s done for this club over the years, but it’s time to put him out to pasture. He’s done. Just trot the kid out there…..it can’t get any worse than the lack of productivity we’re presently getting out of that position. A change needs to made…..and if it ruffles the feathers of some of the old vet players, then so be it. This is a business and needs to be run as such.
August 27, 2022 at 1:56 pm #197859Wooster…”Blindingly whipping it anywhere.” Haha! Yeah, if ever there was what looked like a tailor made 4-6-3, that was it. Gorman’s done pretty good at 2B, but if you’re going to pick a time to toss the baseball into the OF, that was certainly not the time to do it. Anyway, I got a good laugh out of your comment!
August 27, 2022 at 1:59 pm #197860I’m still laughing…Sometimes it’s all you can do to keep from crying!
August 27, 2022 at 2:10 pm #197861
Who’s #14?
August 27, 2022 at 2:18 pm #197862I do not fault Molina in any way for his lack of production. He is just done, physically and, I believe, mentally. I don’t think he foresaw that when he signed, or anything nefarious like that. It is a difficult situation for Mo and Ollie, but they both get paid to perform in difficult situations. Yadi’s D behind the plate is not what it was either. I am sure he has value calling games, framing pitches, etc. But I think Knizner is good enough back there that it is a net loss for the team to have Yadi in the lineup.
As to O’Neill, I have seen enough. With Dickerson producing enough to offset the defensive downgrade, I can’t see how playing O’Neill is consistent with putting the team in the best position to win. Sadly, Carlson hasn’t been a ball of fire lately either, but unless they bring up Burly and move Noot to CF, there is no helping it. Along the same lines, when NA returns, it will be hard to justify playing Gorman over Donovan. This just is not the time to let guys flop around hoping they will right their ship. We need to focus on the group of players who have the best chance of going toe to toe with elite competition and line them up night after night. We need to come thundering down the stretch and into post season like winners, not like the least crappy team in a crappy division.

ParticipantIs that Frank Torre?
August 27, 2022 at 2:23 pm #197864Is that Frank Torre?
I see the resemblance now
August 27, 2022 at 2:29 pm #197865Yes, Frank Torre.
August 27, 2022 at 2:29 pm #197866Is that Frank Torre?
Johnny, tell him what he’s won.
August 27, 2022 at 2:31 pm #197867As to O’Neill, I have seen enough
Thank you! I did 2 years ago. He put together a hot stretch last year, but I never thought it was close to being sustainable.
August 27, 2022 at 2:39 pm #197868I hate ‘roiders and to me he and that Voit kid are obvious as hell
August 27, 2022 at 2:40 pm #197869O’Neill always had an abnormally high BABiP to offset the 30%+ K rate. Not so this year. When those all or nothing guys lose it, they lose it all.
edit: I can’t believe Mo will pay O’Neill 3rd year arb money next year.
