Card4Ever…HaHa! Yeah, the first thought that came to my mind on the walk off HBP was that TO moved his arm so that the baseball hit him precisely on his flak armour! That’s okay though. It’s a W and if you think about it the old fashioned sac-bunt may have played a bigger role in the win than the HBP. At any rate, it’s a W and I’ll take it.
I’ll take the win with abundant pleasure (we are now on a two-game streak). But in watching the replay video this morning it is clear O’Neill stuck his elbow out there in the path of the ball. If I were a beer-maker I would be steamed. We can thank the ump for the win.
Let’s whip ’em today by a much fatter margin.
Its not like nobody knew Packy was a AAAA type when we acquired him. He has provided some emergency fill in innings, so he met reasonable expectations. Mo and Ollie like to pretend sometimes.
Great seeing O’Neill ripping a page out of Ron Hunt’s playbook. But it really wasn’t needed. Bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th…..no outs in a tie ballgame…..vs Colorado at home…..the Cards were going to win this game regardless. As a quick aside, I met DizzyDean17 from Los Angeles and his cool brother Reggie for lunch yesterday in Milwaukee. If any of you posters get the opportunity to meet with Diz, do so. As I told Diz yesterday, I believe he missed his calling as a baseball radio PBP announcer as he has a distinctive voice on par with Jack, Vin and Harry, and baseball stories and knowledge that are truly amazing.
Good to get the game 1 win. It seems like when guys stay in their lanes, good things happen for our ball club.
Hopefully O’Neills HBPs will shock him into a hot streak. Having three big guns going would make this team a tough out for the rest of the regular season.
Pugs…Haha! Ron Hunt. Boy, there’s a blast from the past! It’s funny how I often can’t remember where I left my keys, but mention of names like Hunt, Beckert, Harrelson and Kessinger instantly create crystal clear images from over 50 years ago. And yeah, I think you’re dead right that the Redbirds were would have won the ballgame without the help of the questionable HBP, but “youneverknow.”
