Bottom of 6. Both Philly and Milwaukee are winning big tonight, so a nice come from behind victory would be just what the doctor ordered.

    Edman strikes out looking.

Goldy walks and that will do it for Cortes…..oh a dream come true getting this guy out of this ballgame.

    Pitching change:

Enter Albert Abreu for N.Y…..any relation to Bobby?

Wild pitch sends Goldy to 2nd base.

Arenado lines a base hit to right with Goldy having to stop at 3rd……and oh life without Cortes is starting to look mighty rosey.

Gorman strikes out swinging and ouch that stung!

O’Neill smokes a line drive into right for a base hit and in trots Goldy…..3-2 Yankees your updated score and that will do it for Abreu.

    Pitching change:

Scott Effross center stage for N.Y. and boy he sure must feel like he has a new and improved lease on life coming over to New York and leaving Wrigley.

    DeJong strikes out.

Sadly, DeJong looks like his old self. It will be a long couple months if he plays out the season.

I have to wonder in the history of the mlb has there ever been a team starting a short stop in August with a 136 batting average! It is just ridiculously stupid! Man if I got as many chances as Dejong does I’d probably still be married!

We hear you loud and clear gentlemen. And Steve? You were much too good for her anyway.

And Pallante continues to tame the beast in these Yankee hitters. He retires the first two batters then walks Judge…..and here’s Carp again…. let’s stay with matters shall we?

Carp drills a long one to right!….Nooty drifts back back to the wall and catches it just as he was ready to run out of real estate…..whew that was too close for comfort.

Well carp narrowly misses a homerun that would have been out in yankeeville but not here. Still a one run game bottom of seven

Bottom of 7. Effross still pitching for N.Y.

Yadi walks to get the ball rolling right in the Redbird 7th.

Nooty pops out to Donaldson in foul territory.

    Carlson strikes out swinging.

Edman…..time for Tommy to get off the proverbial schneid. Tommy grounds out to Ralph Kiner Jr. who had him played up the middle.

Effross is a nasty pitcher. If he could repeat some of his pitches, he would almost be unhittable. That one clearly looked like it was headed right at edman but just veered off for a strike like it was froze. That’s a kind of pitcher we need in bullpen.

Neil Pallante surrendered a 2 out double here in the 8th, and then walks Kiner Jr. on a pitch that easily could have been called either way. Trevino grounds out to Edman at 2nd to retire the side. And I don’t care which Cardinal whacks the game winning homer tonight, I’m still flipping Neil Pallante the game ball.

Well we go to bottom of eigth still one run game. A little lucky. Pallante was struggling a little with two hard hit balls and a walk. But got out of it. Would have been on marmol if he didn’t. Already thrown over 60 pitches. I know he’s been starting but still you could tell he was laboring a little.

I still wish they wouldn’t punch hit for pujols. Gorman has looked lost in both at bats. Pujols at least hit the ball.

Bottom of 8. Clay Holmes on for N.Y……any relation to John?

Goldy hits a comebacker to Holmes and he’ll flip it on over to Lemahieu at 1st for the out.

Arenado grounds it as slow as molasses in Donaldson’s direction at 3rd and he won’t even move a muscle to make an attempt…..infield hit.

Gorman strikes out swinging…..and ouch that stung like a bee!

    O’Neill on 3-2 walks.

DeJong slices a drive towards the right field corner….that will get down and go all the way to the wall…in comes Arenado with O’Neill having scoring aspirations too….and he’ll score….4-3 Cards! Double for Paulie.

Yadi…..a little insurance wouldn’t hurt here Yadi…..think Allstate and think insurance. Yadi strikes out swinging.

Sometimes you just have to throw some shade on a guy to snap him out of it.

DeJong’s hit reminded me of a certain hit by David Freese. Same part of the field anyway.

    Top of 9

It would have been 46,999 without you, Willie ….good job!

Helsley time. I’m not sure if the Yanks know they are facing the best of the best here? They sure are going to find out quick enough.

Hicks flies out to Carlson in straightaway center.

Lemahieu on 3-2 walks on a wide one. Castro pinch running.

Judge…..classic matchup here….. Helsley just had one of these on Sunday vs Juan Soto….and Helsley whiffed him. Maybe Helsley thrives on these sort of situations. Judge pops out to Tommy E. at 2nd…..one more to go.

Carp with a check swing slow roller out near 2nd base where DeJong flashes over from his position at short to glove it and then with his bare hand nowhere in sight Paulie shovels it on over to 1st to just get his man….. ballgame baby! Yanks are requesting a review, but I think it will not bear fruit…….. he’s been ruled out….sweet.

    Your fantastic final score:

    St. Louis Cardinals 4
    New York Yankees 3

Marp can do us a solid and get himself out to end the game.

There we go!! Good win for the Cards…get a little momentum against a good team.

Great ball game, willie picked a good one to attend. Seemed like the ball coming out of DeJong’s glove flip to end the game stood still in time. Good thing that was former Card Matt Carpenter running the bases rather than former Card Harrison Bader.

    Great post as always, Euro!

    Two game balls after all.

Neil Pallante and Paul DeJong…..and just an hour ago who in blazes would have ever guessed that Paulie would be the recipient of a game ball??

Well good win, you know carp really wanted to beat that throw out, he’s never ran that fast. If he had done that when Donaldson hit that double earlier, Yankees would have had one more run.outside stadium listening to bucket guys now,
