Our boys almost assuredly will make it two in a row in Frisco, but in or near French Lick, Indiana, RatsBuddy has absolutely no chance of making it two straight din-dins in a row without dessert. As a quick aside, I see Miami rookie hurler Sixto Sanchez is heading for the sidelines for the remainder of the year. Anyone know if he’s related in any fashion to ex-Cards ex-Crew slugging outfielder, Sixto Lescano??
Pugs appears to be absolutely oozing optimism, both on the Cardinals front and on Rat din-din consumption stats. I daren’t comment on the latter, but I have an inkling that out beloved birds have already expended their offensive ammo for San Francisco. However my predictions have, on occasion, been wide of the mark.
Tonight’s din-din. by popular demand of grandchildren visiting from Texas, will be CiF’s famous chicken pot pie, a leafy salad, and rice pudding (the salad was not requested, but they’ll get it anyway).
Look at CIF, bringing culture to the board in ways that only others can dream of, including Pugs himself, then turns around and uses informal prose to fit right in amongst the commoners. “Daren’t” is a contraction I’ve never seen and certainly not one I’d’ve expected to see on a sports message board.
Anytime Waino is on the hill we have a chance. He will turn 40 next month yet is now the ace of this staff. It is pretty incredible. I thought he was washed up a couple of years ago and needed to retire but he has certainly proven me wrong.
What the heck kind of injury is shoulder “discomfort?” It would seem that if something is going to keep a player out of action until September the explanation should be a little more detailed than just saying the guy (Ponce de Leon) is uncomfortable.
Can somebody explain to me how – HOW – the Cubs, with that lineup, have lost ten games in a row???
Would anybody have thought that was possible when the season started?

Their pitching has finally flamed out for one thing.
The sad thing is that despite losing ten in a row they are still ahead of us in the standings.

I absolutely cannot believe Shildt is batting Carlson in the leadoff spot. With those players the lineup should read as follows:
Edman
Bader
Arenado
Goldschmidt
Carlson
O’Neill
Molina

I would rather have Carlson before the big bats. O’Neill behind Arenado. Whichever of Edman or Bader is hitting at the moment first and whichever isn’t buried well down.

PDL is on the 10-day list. Did I miss a report or update on his status? Very possible since I haven’t followed too closely lately.
You’re right, if he’s out for that many weeks, they know more than it doesn’t feel good. Or maybe it’s an extremely severe case of scapular hurtitis.
FYI…….McCutchen just hit a grand slam in the top of the 1st at Wrigley. 4-0 Phils heading to the home half of the 1st. The Cubs wouldnt lose their 11th straight…….would they???
The cubs losing ten straight doesn’t surprise me. The winning they did early on did though. Far as Carlson leading off. I don’t like it but I’m not sure we have a better option. Maybe if edman would lay off bad pitches and be willing to walk more, he would still be there. Of course our big bats haven’t really got the job done much so there’s that.

Wainwright 1willie is probably right. Shildt takes some heat for his batting orders, but I’m not sure there is a “correct” order with this year’s team.
Maybe Shildt should take a page out of Billy Martin’s book and make the order by pulling names out of a hat. There are some limited analytics that support this approach. In 1972, Martin used this approach to turn around the slumping Tigers and they won their division. He again used this approach in 1977 to turn around the slumping Yankees, who went on to win the World Series. Martin said the key was his guys needed a shaking up to get going.
O’Neill’s “food allergy” sounds fishy. Did the boys celebrate last night’s victory with a little trip to Fisherman’s Wharf? If he’s not playing it changes the dynamics…. drastically. If Ty-On plays, we could be looking at one of Euro Dandy’s COTD (Call Off The Dogs) games, where our skipper takes the foot off the peddle so not to overly embarrass the opposition. As a passing aside, I’ve noticed a pattern with Cardinal In France’s din-dins. Whenever he goes basic, like with tonight’s chicken pot pie selection, watch out! Because he always follows it up with some fancy smancy din-din the following night. A Cardinal In France din-din changeup if you will. Can’t wait to see Wednesday’s game thread.
Edman and Bader both have an obp under .300, which is terrible, vs rhp’s for the season. Tonight’s pitcher throws right handed.
Carlson has a .330 obp vs right handed pitchers this season. This is Shildt doing what is favorable to get a runner on in front of GoldenAdo.
This has been Shildt’s leadoff platoon decision for about a dozen games in a row now.
Carlson OBP in leadoff position OBP is .302 So Shildt is turning a .340 OBP guy into a .300 OBP guy, instead of batting a .300 OBP guy 1st and letting the .340 OBP guy be a .340 OBP guy.
