The takeaway from yesterday is if you are going to hit a laser beam right at somebody, hit it at a fan in the bleachers.

Don’t look now, but the Cards are tied with the Braves for the most HRs in the majors right now. They could stand to spread the dingers out a bit, for sure, but it’s nice to see some power from the team after last year’s outage.

Also, we really need Waino to give us some innings tonight. The bullpen got a little break with Jack going 6 last night and only needing Cabrera and Ponce. But another 6-7 inning outing would be nice.

Instead of all these new terms like OPS+ and GFJ and WR+C and BAFID why dont we post really important stats? Like batting average. That’s all I need to see.

And lunch today was Kentucky Fried Chicken. Three piece dinner with mashed potatoes/gravy and green beans. Then I had a piece of white devil’s food cake with strawberry glaze and strawberries on top. Along with a MinuteMaid lemonade. And me and Whitey will be on the couch for this one tonight, along with a big cigar – or two.

Batting average is not important. That’s why I don’t post it.

Of course batting average is important, certainly as important as some of these alphabet soup concoctions. Other stats can fill in a lot of gaps and give a fuller picture, but to reject BA as “unimportant” is nonsense.

Sorry, CiF, I probably should have put it in a sarcasm font (if we had that) I feel like it’s sort of a well known thing that Rats only cares about batting average. Well, and strikeouts. He takes a bit of a ribbing for it.

Personally I like OPS+ a lot, as you can see what a hitter is doing relative to the league. Batting average would be okay with me, if accompanied by the league-wide average. But OPS+ brings the power part into the metric.

Now given all that, here is my basic batting order vs righty and lefty using the lineup Shildt mostly runs out there. I wish the manager would take these orders in to consideration.

    vs righty:

    Edman
    Williams
    Arenado
    Goldschmidt
    Carlson
    Molina
    DeJong
    Carpenter

    vs lefty:

    Edman
    Carlson
    Arenado
    Goldschmidt
    Molina
    DeJong
    Williams
    Carpenter

The Cards get a couple of 2 out singles in the 1st and ended up with men on 2nd and 3rd, but Carlson grounds out to end the threat.

I had to look up the 0s so I will excuse myself from guessing.

Cards have kept it 0-0 despite Waino having a little trouble in the 2nd.

Corbin seems to have put his awful first two starts behind him tonight. The Cards have gotten some base hits, but not able to push any runs across.

That was Corbin’s best inning. Hopefully Wainwright can keep matching the 0s on the scoreboard until the bats catch up with Corbin.

A bad luck infield single and then a liner to left and Waino is in some trouble. Now he manages to get the double play ball from Turner. Hits Bell.

Waino rears back and Ks Schwarber on a 92 mph fastball tailing back to catch the edge. Nice work to get out of the jam.

Wasn’t the Nats pitcher’s ERA over 20 coming into tonight?

Seven pitch innings are awesome. Come on bats let’s get going here.

Nice fast inning for Waino in the 5th. 7 pitches.

Waino was filthy in the Nats part of the 5th. What was that, 8 pitches? 2 Ks and a grounder. Corbin is matching him and looks locked in as well. Hopefully the offense can get some hits off Patrick and get to that soft Nats bullpen.
