Schildt hurt his Pitcher here. He was right but Gallegos is standing there this whole time.

ParticipantNo time should be called til play is over
September 26, 2021 at 4:55 pm #173662Maybe called time out in his mind
September 26, 2021 at 4:55 pm #1736632nd base umpire should go back to rookie league. How do you blow that call that badly?
September 26, 2021 at 4:55 pm #173664How were thr runners allowed to advance?
September 26, 2021 at 4:56 pm #1736651982 willie
ParticipantIf they had just tagged the runner at third it would be over but it’s hard to think about 🙂 infield fly while playing.
September 26, 2021 at 4:56 pm #1736661964 beat me to it, how do they advance?

ParticipantOn a infield fly, you can advance at your own peril. If they catch it and you advanced before tagging up, all they have to do is throw back to bag. If they don’t catch it you are safe if they don’t tag you. Its to keep people from intentionally letting infield pop ups drop to try to get a double or triple play.
September 26, 2021 at 5:00 pm #173670September 26, 2021 at 5:10 pm #173671Umps gave them extra strikes all day. Extra outs and extra bases in the ninth. Pfffft. We eat that for din din. Maybe Sosa will be back for Monday’s game.
I did notice a lot of ads hawking the $10 tickets for the homestand. Really want some sell outs I guess.
September 26, 2021 at 5:11 pm #173673Rat, Erika is on post game show.

ParticipantOn tv they are saying it was a force at third and second, but it isn’t. The batter was automatically out so the runners can go forward or back, they have to be tagged. The thing is time shouldn’t have been called and when they tagged the guy wandering off bag at second, he should have been out.
September 26, 2021 at 5:45 pm #173677The ump said when Edman went to tag the guy at 2nd he had already called time out
September 26, 2021 at 5:46 pm #173678The umpire raises his arm so everyone knows its an infield fly and the batter is out whether it is caught or not. Therefore runners have to be tagged whether it is caught or not. Not confusing at all.
Not sure what the umpire thought was going on.
September 26, 2021 at 5:47 pm #173679Sweet 16! Go Cardinals!
September 26, 2021 at 6:12 pm #173681Hey, Chicago, what do you say … the Cardinals won again today!
September 26, 2021 at 6:16 pm #173682I’m getting that warm fuzzy feeling.
These days there’s only two things that get Cardinal In France this excited. When the wifey is serving up din-din or his Redbirds are poised to serve up another big “W”.
Just win baby!
TexasCard? If this site still had the capacity to award “Post of the Day” honors, you’d be accumulating a whole fistful of them. Well done, sir!

ParticipantActually bling if they catch it, tag up rules still apply. So if a runner think a ball is going to be not caught or forgets number of outs and advanced before ball is caught, there is still a force at the bag he came from
September 26, 2021 at 7:27 pm #173691Thanks Pugs!

ParticipantOne thing that wasn’t mentioned because of all the confusion on that play was that it never should have been arenados ball to catch. That ball was about twenty to thirty feet from home plate. Knizner should have caught that ball, I guarantee yadi would have caught it. It’s why I don’t think knizner wanted to talk about that play much when he was interviewed after the game.

ParticipantIf arenado had been in normal third base position it would have been his play but he was way over toward shortstop because of the shift.

stlcard25ParticipantI really look forward to seeing the TexasCard signature post as well. Hopefully we keep seeing it right on through the rest of September and October.
September 26, 2021 at 8:43 pm #173698There are a few things to unpeel on the bizarre infield fly play.
1. There is no force play when an ump calls infield fly. That’s where DeJong and Edman screwed up.
2. Arenado flipped the ball to DeJong at 3B, but Romine was safe since DeJong didn’t tag him (probably thinking it was a force).
3. DeJong then fired the ball to Edman at 2B and Edman didn’t tag Ortega (probably thinking it was a force). The 2B ump screwed up initially calling Ortega. He wasn’t out due to the infield fly rule eliminating the force out. Also, Romine was not out either for not tagging up at 2B because nobody caught the ball. Ortega then overran/walked off 2B and Edman then tagged him out, except the 2B ump screwed it up again by calling time out just before the tag. So Ortega wasn’t out again.
4. Romine ended up at 3B because DeJong either didn’t hear the infield fly rule called or didn’t understand the rule at that instant. Ortega ended up at 2B because Edman had the same issues as DeJong, plus when he finally figured out to make the tag, the 2B ump messed it up royally. The home plate ump ejected Shildt, but Shildt’s beef was with the 2B ump.
