Watching gamecast. How do the runners on 1st and 2nd both advance on a routine fly to LF?
April 18, 2021 at 1:44 pm #158492Because williams throws to 3rd instead of 2nd!
April 18, 2021 at 1:47 pm #158493This isn’t a complaint, but why is a guy hitting .071 and a defensive liability getting so much playing time? Better yet, why is said player even on the roster at this point? I realize the player makes significant coin, but how long can they continue to run him out there? They are on pace to screw up and let his option vest and be stuck with him for another year.
April 18, 2021 at 1:49 pm #158494I am imagining it going to left center. I would bet that Carlson could have and should have hustled over to catch it and be in good position with momentum behind him to make a strong throw to 3rd. Instead he drifts that way and lets Williams come across catching it going away from third and having to turn around to be able to make any throw at all. And of course he then threw to the wrong base. I did not see it, but from what I have seen that is what happened. Am I wrong?
April 18, 2021 at 2:00 pm #158496I am thinking that when a batter is 4 out of 63, this is not bad luck. It is sad, but decline is real.
April 18, 2021 at 2:03 pm #158497Another K for the record books. It’s really difficult to understand and watch at this point.
April 18, 2021 at 2:05 pm #158498Does Schildt remember Sosa is on the roster. At least he is young.
April 18, 2021 at 2:05 pm #158499#Cardinals have one quality start in their first 15 games of the season. Only once this season has a starter gotten an out — an out — in the sixth inning.
And, they're going to shift to a six-man rotation next weekend.

April 18, 2021 at 2:09 pm #158501That starting pitching won’t improve much even with the two starters coming back off injury. Its foolish to put a while lot of trust in them and even with them back they seem intent on running Martinez out there. It is what it is until they bite the bullet and let the youngsters come up and take their lumps. Hopefully that won’t be too much longer.
April 18, 2021 at 2:14 pm #158502Surely someone is going to tell Goold its a marathon.

While it’s not exactly two aces coming back from injury, Kim and Mikolas have been productive starters in recent years. If nothing else, I’d expect to get more innings from the rotation and give the bullpen a bump with either Gant or Carlos going back to the bullpen at some point.
While the pitching is more concerning than it has been in the last several years, I don’t think the team truly has one of the worst pitching staffs in the league. It will get better, and hopefully starts with getting two starters back in the rotation.
April 18, 2021 at 2:28 pm #158504Carlson and Williams with the young hitter’s mistake of swinging for the game tying rather than trying to keep the process moving.
April 18, 2021 at 2:35 pm #158505It hasn’t helped that Nola is now getting 2 inches off the plate on both sides. That pitch to Molina wasn’t close.
April 18, 2021 at 2:37 pm #158506Finally get to watch a game for first time this year and this is the stinker I’m treated to.
April 18, 2021 at 2:38 pm #158507If Nola comes out for the 9th, the first batter’s job is to go deep in the count. Try to get Nola out of there.
April 18, 2021 at 2:44 pm #158508Completely dominated by a great pitcher on top of his game today. Needed to do more, but Nola made very, very few mistakes and was in total control.
April 18, 2021 at 2:46 pm #158509At least we were perfect with RISP.
April 18, 2021 at 2:50 pm #158510amen so cal
April 18, 2021 at 2:57 pm #158511How many runs did we score after putting 9 up yesterday? lol this has been going on for a few seasons.
Carpenter should not see any PT. Dean should’ve gotten a start this weekend.

Come on 25, KK has exactly one shortened season in the big leagues amd Mikolas has exactly one season of above average pitching to his name. Plus Mikolas hasn’t pitched in a game in well over a year plus. You just can’t trust what you will get from them especially coming off injury and in Mikolas’ case his second injury since he last pitched in 2019, which wasn’t a stellar year either for him. I know lately you like to disagree with me and are taking a more sunny view of things but contenders aren’t built like this Cardinals team, especially in the outfield and starting rotation.
For the record, I very much like the young arms down on the farm hence my comment of a changing of the guard soon that needs to occur.
April 18, 2021 at 3:29 pm #158513We have feasted on bad pitching, including Strasburg who was rubbing out his shoulder for some reason and not very good. It is everybody else we cannot hit. This guy today was lights out though. Nobody is hitting that.
April 18, 2021 at 3:50 pm #158514Our Birds do indeed owe MrPerkins a heartfelt apology for today’s offensive offensive performance. This Philly starter today is exactly what we need to seriously compete for a NL crown. Right now we have nobody within our rank and file who even remotely resembles Nola. Could we possibly pull off a midseason trade like the cubbies did back in ’84 when they stole Rick Sutcliffe from Cleveland? He’s out there waiting for us, but can Mo find him?

TC, I agree with this. I also disagree that the starting pitching will automatically be poor. I think Ponce and Gant are poor starters with little to no upside in the rotation in terms of eating innings and providing 0s. Ponce has no control and has used all his starting pitching lives. Gant has pitched about as well as he can as a starter but he’s just not got the arm. It’s like a tightrope act out there with his 90 mph heater. I love bullpen Gant, though.
Kim and Mikolas, despite their shorter MLB history, have at least been solid innings eaters with the ability to be average or better starters. You have a point that they are not guarantees. I just think they are much better bets than Gant and Ponce.
April 18, 2021 at 4:01 pm #158516doubtful Pugs. Maybe a Jake Westbrook type is more realistic. .500ish guy who answers the bell every 5 days and usually gives us a chance.
April 18, 2021 at 4:04 pm #15851725 fair enough, but I haven’t been high on Mikolas since he was down here with Texas. I don’t expect too much from him going forward. Kim has a chance to be serviceable but we need to see more to make that determination. the second half of this season will tell the tell. I agree on Ponce and Gant. Gant is however a very valuable bullpen arm. We have to get him back in that role.
