Grey Beards coming through for us…
September 21, 2021 at 8:45 am #172952I have to give the front office credit with their dumpster dive moves. LeBlanc, Happ, Lester, McFarland, and Garcia have completely stabilized this team and allowed us to turn it around. I hope many, if not all, return next season. I wish Mo would have made the moves sooner but hats off nevertheless. Sometimes you don’t have to make a blockbuster deal to move the needle. The old veterans are coming through for us.
September 21, 2021 at 9:18 am #172954All year long our bullpen was basically the “big 3” (Cabrera, Gallegos, and Reyes) and a bunch of misfits but now we have an alternative big 3 of Whitley, McFarland, and Garcia. Then you might be able to add Flaherty and Hudson to that mix before the end of the season and all of a sudden our bullpen could become a huge weapon for Shildt.
September 21, 2021 at 12:51 pm #172962Yeah how was Garcia just available with his stuff??
September 21, 2021 at 1:23 pm #172966all the credit for finding the right pitchers that would fit in… much respect…and let’s nto forget LeBlanc in the list
having said that…why were the incapable of doing the same thing with a bat for the offense when it really needed it?
We had a couple REALLY bad hitting months…an average guy like DPeralta could have went a long way in helping out, and even for a stretch off the bench
We played JWilliams and Hurst and Muncy and even depended on Noot far too much for the offensive hole we were in….and i like Rondon’s attitude but he isn’t really help, more a necessary bandaid player every team has for the end of the bench…but he is not a guy we can start for a few weeks..and Carp and Dejong at this point can’t do that either…so our entire bench is made up of guys who can’t be trusted to fill long term playing time roles without severely hurting the offense…all due credit to Knizner
also…the pitching moves came…but they did all come at the very last minute…we had to watch a clearly not ready Oviedo run out there far too many times…

Seems strange, doesn’t it? Last night the broadcast crew was talking about how bad Garcia’s control was in Texas. About a walk an inning I believe, and now it’s much improved. He was so bad he made our wild pitchers of this year look like they have laser guided accuracy.
One change they said Garcia made was moving from his 4-seamer to a 2-seamer. That seems a little strange also because 2-seamers have more movement than 4-seamers, but I guess it boils down to what an individual gets comfortable with.
Nothing about the Cards makes sense now. Let’s hope the lack of clarity continues well into October.
September 21, 2021 at 1:43 pm #172969That’s a great point about nothing making sense. And that’s perfectly fine with the current trajectory of the club.
September 21, 2021 at 4:06 pm #172972Special shout-out to the esteemed Jags and the wiley Scotty for not forgetting “Lucky” LeBlanc in all of our success. Unfortunately, “Lucky” experienced a dose of bad fortune by being bit by the injury bug. Sosa, “Lucky”, McFarland, Garcia, Lester, Happ…..what marvelous additions these six have been.
September 21, 2021 at 4:22 pm #172975Yeah LeBlanc is the guy who got the whole “Stop freaking walking everyone you guys!!” movement started. Who knew that he would be singularly responsible for the Cardinals winning the World Series this year? Bonkers but it’s going to happen as we all know.
September 21, 2021 at 4:32 pm #172979Sweet accurate “Lucky” LeBlanc observation, Hammer. We could honestly be looking at the first World Series MVP who never once took the field of play.
September 21, 2021 at 6:03 pm #172993PadsFSParticipantRegarding Garcia, Bay Area fans likely say the same thing about Dominic Leone.
September 21, 2021 at 6:15 pm #172995Yep, been noticing Leone too.
