Williams – Jerks an Eflin fast ball to left center where both McCutchen and Monoiak converge….and it’ll be McCutchen taking command of the situation for the out.
Carlos – Whiffs.
Edman – Grounds it up the middle again, but this time the SS Gregorius had him played that way and he’ll glove it and fling it on over to Hoskins’ waiting mitt at 1st to retire the Birds in order.

Phil’s 6April 16, 2021 at 7:00 pm #158323StlCard25, I hope C-Mart is not with the team after the ASG let alone the season. How long have we been saying on this board that he needs to go? I am completely flummoxed as to why they keep starting him. He’s a liability not an asset, and appears to be a legend in his own mind, but certainly not with any of us. I suspect Yadi had a lot to do with keeping him on the roster, and thought he could mentor him to be a pitcher and not just a thrower. Didn’t work, unfortunately. That said, our defense needs to step it up — they’re not doing our starters any favors.
April 16, 2021 at 7:02 pm #158324I’m doing my best in telling myself “Pugs you’re not a quitter”! But it’s getting very difficult staying in the PBP saddle in this kind of a ballgame with no sidekick at my side. Any other budding PBP enthusiasts out there who might just want to join me in the booth?

Goldy – Goldy not exactly locked in at the plate presently. And almost on cue he strikes out swinging yet once again.
Arenado – Liner, but unfortunately right in the general vicinity of Bohm at 3rd, who’ll snatch it out of thin air for the out.
Yadi – Goes fishing for a high Eflin heater and Yadi comes up empty as he strikes out to retire the side.

Phil’s 6April 16, 2021 at 7:12 pm #158326As bad s it is … Carlis needs to give the club six innings tonight.
April 16, 2021 at 7:15 pm #158327Indeed 1964Cards, maybe even 7. Carlos is the prototypical sacrificial lambia tonight…..and he kind of deserves it.
April 16, 2021 at 7:17 pm #158328Here’s a test. If you’re still watching this game on a Friday night and under these dismal circumstances, you can indeed label yourself a Class AAA Redbird fan.

Carpenter – Grounds it neatly out to Segura at 2nd and he’ll make the short toss on over to Hoskins to register the out.
DeJong – Blasts a long high drive to center!….Monoiak drifts back to the track…to the wall and he’ll hall it in right near the 409 marking for the out. That ball is 15 rows up and out of here at Wrigley.
Carlson – Flies out routinely to Harper in right.

Phil’s 6April 16, 2021 at 7:31 pm #158330Scott Hurst with the big league debut here. He flies out to shallow CF.
April 16, 2021 at 7:36 pm #158332Goldy swings at a couple of bad pitches, then battles back to single to left center. Need Arenado to come through here.
April 16, 2021 at 7:37 pm #158333Carlos leaves and does a good job after an awful second inning. He gave the team what they needed of him after the second inning. Hopefully, better days ahead for CMart.
April 16, 2021 at 7:38 pm #158334Arenado hammered one foul…then struck out. That was the chance to make it something of a game.
April 16, 2021 at 7:44 pm #1583356-0 is doable vs these guys under normal circumstances. But with these winds howling in, it won’t be easy.
April 16, 2021 at 7:50 pm #158336Time to make some noise Redbirds!

Ouch….if that’s John Holmes in the batters box, the location of that hbp would have put him on the shelve for a good month.
Now that was funny! Made me laugh out loud. I wonder how many posters on here got that?

April 16, 2021 at 8:16 pm #158338The Nats come in 1-6…then beat the Cards up. The Phillies come in 1-5 in their last 6…not looking very good so far.
April 16, 2021 at 8:18 pm #158339Williams with a two-run oppo-shot!
Pitching change … hopefully the Redbirds can make the Phillies pen pay.
April 16, 2021 at 8:20 pm #158340That was Williams’ first career home run. The Phillies fans throw the ball back so it can be given to Williams.
April 16, 2021 at 8:25 pm #1583411982 willieParticipantWell my girlfriends young daughter not knowing what it was, yanked on a cable that had been uncovered in the yard which happened to be our cable internet wire so no tv or cable tonight so no game but the phil’s scoring 6 runs on us isn’t good. They haven’t been good at all lately. I said from the start when people were talking about our offense, that our pitching might be the real trouble spot. No matter how great your offense is, it’s not going to compensate for routinely bad pitching.
April 16, 2021 at 8:44 pm #158343Well, heres to hoping that tomorrow and Sunday are better games.
April 16, 2021 at 8:46 pm #158344Before the season I said the outfield and starting pitching would make or break this team. So for they have more than broken the team. They have dragged them way down except for the occasional bust out game for 14 runs followed by total trash the next several games. At present this team is starting at a comfortable under .500 season. Nice job by the front office stopping the offseason after Arenado and the Fowler trade.
April 16, 2021 at 9:02 pm #158345Two takeaways from the game. Carlos’s WHIP for the day was better than the two guys who followed him to the mound. Hurst and Nogowski both popped out to the shortstop. That’s it. Nothing to see here.
April 16, 2021 at 9:20 pm #158349Nice job by the front office stopping the offseason after Arenado and the Fowler trade.
The team was never going to do more than that, no matter what we hoped for. There simply was not money in the budget to do so, and Arenado was only in there because the Rockies basically gave us his 2021 season for free.
I’d also say that of the 13 starting players (8 position and 5 starting pitchers), the Cards are currently down 4 of them, with two pitchers and two outfielders. Traditionally the team plays better as the summer months expose other teams’ lack of comparative depth. Will that happen this year? We will see. I still very much doubt this team finishes under .500.
April 16, 2021 at 9:36 pm #158351Its a marathon, if we can finish april at 500 with KK being effective and mikolas coming back, im cautiously optimistic, bader back is not a plus, just my opinion. We need bats on balls, OF defense not an issue.
Bats should come around, just need SP to be avg to above avg and offense has to do their job.
April 17, 2021 at 1:51 am #158357It will be a series where we’ll eek a game out or just get a big inning and it’ll pad the stats.
But we’ll here someone say “we’re 6th in runs scored”. GMAFB!
