They should throw the radar guns over the side. Along with the pitching lab, the virtual reality hitting machine, and a bunch of wonks chained to their computers.

ParticipantTurning the page can be therapeutic.
Enjoy the game at Peoria. My evenings consist now of watching the Olympics and
checking the minor league games in progress.August 6, 2021 at 5:22 pm #169087While they’re at it, get rid of all the doctors and trainers. When hurt, the players should just rub some dirt on it like in the good old days! Bring back tobacco and the spitball. Helmets are for wimps. Change is evil!

ParticipantThey should indeed get rid of some of the over-sophistication and just play ball. Too much chatter about launch angle, swing plane, exit velocity, spin rate, etc. Trying to turn ball players into programmed robots. Reduces the human element that has always been a big part of the game.

jj-cf-stlParticipantChange is evil!
Here’s your internet atta-boy, that was funny.
August 6, 2021 at 6:05 pm #169093“While they’re at it, get rid of all the doctors and trainers. When hurt, the players should just rub some dirt on it like in the good old days! Bring back tobacco and the spitball. Helmets are for wimps. Change is evil!”
Setting aside the irony of your words, they are not entirely without merit.

jj-cf-stlParticipantWell CiF, winning teams must not indulge in such evil tactics. It must be just the losing clubs.

Participantjj – It’s why baseball is slowly losing popularity. Slow, long, dull games.
They’re shooting themselves in the foot.
Fans like to see the hit and run. Fans like to see the double steal. Fans like to see an exciting squeeze play. Should I go on?August 6, 2021 at 6:40 pm #169096“Fans” like to see baseball, no matter what it looks like. I don’t like some of the changes being made or the seeming unwillingness by hitters to adapt their hitting. However, I still like to watch baseball.
August 6, 2021 at 6:58 pm #169097
jj-cf-stlParticipantAh, now its fan interest. Those pesky moving goalposts.
I can assure you internet whining will change nothing. Possibly it’s time for you leave mlb in your rear view mirror?
It’s a choice.
August 6, 2021 at 6:59 pm #169098Meh, the Cardinals are not a lousy team. Pittsburg is a lousy team and a lousy franchise as is Baltimore.
However, the Cardinals have not been a good team since the first half of 2015.
Its time for ownership to step up and put a really good team on the field.
I feel like some of the pieces are there. Need 2 solid starting pitchers, a 2nd baseman (should not have let Wong go) a shortstop, a 4th outfielder, and a new strength and conditioning coach.
Add that to what’s coming back and after injuries and the odd off season for a couple of the guys and you will have a pretty solid team.

ParticipantSo do I, Forsch, but I have 6 athletic grandkids and none of them are playing baseball. Or watching baseball for that matter. Too slow. The sport is slipping and they aren’t doing anything about it.
For example, the Rays have struck out 1,090 times this season. They have a total of 864 hits. Do you find that healthy?August 6, 2021 at 7:08 pm #169100bccran
ParticipantI’ve been around baseball a lot longer than you, jj. And I see major changes in the game. That aren’t attractive to young people. That’s not “moving the goal posts”, sir. It’s a fact that geeks had better be aware of. Go to ST sometime and stand behind the benches of our minor league teams. You won’t hear much English spoken. Brian will attest to that.
August 6, 2021 at 7:12 pm #169101“players should just rub some dirt on it like in the good old days! Bring back tobacco”
100%!!!! Way too many pretty boys! I’m 37 and feel like an “old man” or my dad here, but I can’t stand the showboating, flashy, and what seems to me as a general disrespect for the game. LaRussa became manager when I was in the 6th grade and I loved his style and grew up with it and loved that people hated him and still do. No nonsense, just get the job done. Why I always liked Rolen, Vina, Lynn just to name a few. I watched Lynn pitch today and still miss him. And I hate the “it’s 2021 (insert whatever change you want here)” Heard an interview with Votto yesterday taking about how he likes the bat flipping and trash talking in the game now and how different it is from the “put your head down and act like you’ve been there” when he came into the league. I really miss the guys who act like they done it before and have some respect for the game.

jj-cf-stlParticipantIts not supposed to be about the posters here bccrans. Please adhere to the forum guidelines.
August 6, 2021 at 7:50 pm #169103bccran
ParticipantI’m not talking about the posters, JJ. I’m talking about the geeks that have turned this game into a robot contest. When a team has more strike outs than hits, it’s turning it into a boring sport. And then the silly jury rigging like a man on 2B in extra innings. And what I said about most of our players in the minors speaking Spanish, what does that tell you?
August 6, 2021 at 8:26 pm #169104Wainwright looks good. Got himself into and out of trouble in the 4th. PC at 51 after 4.
August 6, 2021 at 8:26 pm #169105Last I knew, baseball doesn’t have a language requirement. Nor should it. Period.
August 6, 2021 at 8:27 pm #169106din din was chicken breast boiled with some noodles. Taking it easy on the tummy today.
August 6, 2021 at 8:31 pm #169107cranny’s point was so many players now come from outside the U.S. due presumably to less interest in baseball by youth in the U.S. Cranny, you need to use politically correct terminology now days.

ParticipantWell it’s a little warmer at the game tonight. Waino pitching pretty good though he fell prey to the walk thing for a moment. We’ve had a little offense though this guy doesn’t seem all that great so could be better. I think these guys are more our speed but still got to navigate late innings.
August 6, 2021 at 8:40 pm #169109Nothing “PC” about it. I don’t care about the origins, just the performance.
August 6, 2021 at 8:41 pm #169110Wainos got a shutout going so far. Two walks and a tight spot last inning. We have 3 runs with lobs that could of been a couple more. Still pretty tight so far. DeJongs got a rbi. O’Niel the only one so far to get one over the fence.
August 6, 2021 at 8:46 pm #169111Oh oh I missed Goldys dinger in the 1st!
