With the passage of time, the Luke Voit deal where we got Geo Gallegos is looking like a win for the Cardinals
Voit slimmed down and is off to a good start this year. He already has 40 HR since joining NYY so I am not yet ready to declare a winner.
Gant did remind me today that the Cards definitely won the Jaime Garcia trade.
Never been a Woidford fan and it will take more than 1 or 2 good games to change my mind. But I’ll gladly eat crow if he is the real deal.
And this – with all of the double-headers we will have, there could be an advantage. With every DH you play 4 less innings, assuming no extras. That is four less innings of wear and tear on your pitching staff and players.

A lot of people haven’t been Woodford fans. He’s been flying a bit under the radar. Why do you think that is? He was picked #39 in the 2015 draft and last season ranked #3 in WHIP in the 16 team PCL.
Maybe he’s just a little better than we’ve thought. Overshadowed by guys like Flaherty, Hudson, Reyes, Gomber, Ponce, Oviedo, Rondon, Thompson,
Liberatore, etc.It is nice to have Cardinal baseball back.
I am glad MLB has chosen not to mix in politics with baseball after the ‘woke’ 1st games.
The NBA is cutting its own throat to pander to its players – maybe MLB can pick up some extra eyeballs.
Cards have a tough row to hoe but all they have to do is make the playoffs – after that as we all know – anything can happen: see 2004 and 2011.

Yep, this season is different in so many ways, one of which is the playoff situation. The 58-60 games are really just a way to set up seeding for the playoffs, which will be the “real” showdown. A bit like the NBA of the ‘60s and early ‘70s where pretty much every team made the playoffs, and the regular season just set the pairings.
O’neill looked great yesterday as well, even though he ended up with 3K’s on the day, he looked like he was seeing the ball well.
The team on the field yesterday looks a lot different than the July 24th team. It was a fun day of Cardinal baseball and raised the team’s stock and the optimism of their fans. I think that Wainwright set the tone for the entire day. Great to see the Reyes velocity, but when he missed… he missed bad but was unhittable in the strike zone. The Card’s base runners forced some miscues by the pale hose.

It was simply because he pitched three innings. I should have mentioned that he can and probably will be back sooner than the standard minimum 10 days if used as a 29th man.
I have always been a Woodford fan. To me he profiles as an innings eating bulldog like Lance Lynn. I can’t say his career will be as successful but the potential is there.

That’s some high praise. Lynn was excellent for the Cards, even better last year in Texas and is off to a Cy Young caliber start to the year this season. If Woodford is 2/3 as good, he will be a wild success.
