Sunday, July 26 1:15 p.m. vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
RHP Dakota Hudson (16-7, 3.35 in 2019) vs. RHP Mitch Keller (1-5, 7.13 in 2019)
FSM // KMOX // WIJRMonday, July 27 OFF DAY
July 26, 2020 at 6:08 am #133697Will be interesting to see if Dakota can keep his ground ball game going. With this heat balls hit in the air may tend to fly out of Busch. Gonna have to learn to keep track of the ALC as well as the NLC this season. On paper ALC seems to be the weakest of the American League conferences. Let’s hope that is true. Go Birds Go.
July 26, 2020 at 7:42 am #133703This series shows all the signs of a sweep, but you gotta play the games and execute as the club keeps preaching.
Really like seeing the energy this club is exhibiting here early. Only two games in, but the one guy you wonder about being able to hold onto his job is Bader. Won’t be surprised if Lane is in center today.

ParticipantBader said in no uncertain terms during the off season that he is unquestionably the starting center fielder of the St. Louis Cardinals. That should settle the issue.
July 26, 2020 at 8:39 am #133705It won’t settle the issue if he doesn’t get untracked offensively. I know it’s only two games this season but he hardly swung a flaming bat in 2019.
July 26, 2020 at 9:06 am #133706bccran
ParticipantWould it help if he circle flipped his bat a few more times before every at bat?
July 26, 2020 at 9:22 am #133707What????
Of course not.
But him declaring during the off-season that he’s the starting centerfielder “settles” nothing.
And it certainly doesn’t end said discussion on this board.

jj-cf-stlParticipantMitch Keller: 1-5, 7.13 ERA in 2019
On the surface facing Keller could appear as a walk in the park today, but he has a very high ceiling. In his 11 GS last season he allowed a .475 BAbip, highest in MLB history with a minimum of 40 IP.
Not to be overlooked are his 2019 FIP that was 3.19 and he tallied a 16/65 BB/K. His breakout is coming. We could see Hudson / Keller matchups for multiple years going forward.
July 26, 2020 at 11:22 am #133712Thomas in CF today, batting 9th.

July 26, 2020 at 12:10 pm #133715Did anyone ever get a hold of Pugs? It’s been such a long time since he’s been in touch.
July 26, 2020 at 12:29 pm #133718It would be nice to get the sweep considering that the Pirates are obviously one of the worst teams in the NL, if not the worst. The schedule will get more difficult after today.
July 26, 2020 at 12:43 pm #133719Bader said in no uncertain terms during the off season that he is unquestionably the starting center fielder of the St. Louis Cardinals.
uh huh, chuckling.
July 26, 2020 at 1:32 pm #133723Great pick off by Yadi!
But our offense went meekly with an 8-pitch first

ParticipantUConn –
I apologize for my sarcasm concerning Bader.July 26, 2020 at 2:19 pm #133725
stlcard25ParticipantNice to manufacture a run there in that inning. Could have been better without the baserunning error. Now hopefully Hudson can settle in.
July 26, 2020 at 2:34 pm #133726Hudson gets homeritis and we’re down 3-1.
July 26, 2020 at 2:41 pm #133728
stlcard25ParticipantDakota is just not too in sync today. Perhaps his fortune to keep his numbers down last year is going to turn the other way this year. Hopefully not.
July 26, 2020 at 2:52 pm #133729Cranny,
I personally don’t care if players bunny hop their way from the on-deck circle to the batter’s box. They need to hit.July 26, 2020 at 2:55 pm #133730High lazy one to not very deep center. Can’t believe Thomas didn’t circle it and go for the plate. Sand lot play.
July 26, 2020 at 2:58 pm #133731No arm maybe. I don’t know much about him.
July 26, 2020 at 3:26 pm #133732Nice quiet MLB debut for Whitley
July 26, 2020 at 3:45 pm #133734bccran
ParticipantUConn – the Cards OF right now I believe is 4 for 26. That’s a .154 batting average.
July 26, 2020 at 4:01 pm #133739Funny how small data amounts are cited as if significant when they are negative, but disregarded as irrelevant when positive. How did Thomas perform in 38 at-bats/44 plate appearances last season, again? 😉
July 26, 2020 at 4:19 pm #133741Unless Bader starts hitting, I hope Thomas will get some ABs. Once a week on a Sunday won’t help much. It will also give Carlson a chance sooner.
