Agreed, 1982. That looked like a great place to build the lead with two runners on, no outs and the top of the order up, but they did not get the job done.

Ponce again unable to complete an inning and is pulled with two on and two out in the fifth. Cabrera gets out of the jam.

Ponce will never become an established MLB starter if he can’t go at least five innings. He will just continue to bounce around as an AAAA part time starter/reliever. It is unfortunate because I like him but it is what it is.

Cards strand two more in the fifth and are clinging to a one-run lead. We have seen this script before and it often does not end well.

I agree. I think he could be a John Gant like reliever and I hope the Cards go that route after this year. Let him go extra innings if needed but there are too many potentially good starters to use him there.

The Cards are 1-10 with RISP today. That’s a bad recipe and I hope it doesn’t come back to bite us.

Do you all think it is time to give Gomber another try starting? Woodford? Someone else?

What about CMart? He wants to, but the Cards are concerned about pitch count.

Cmart needs to be a starter. IMO if they’re still needing to use kid gloves on him, either trade him or get his necessary surgery over with. There’s no reason to keep playing around letting him have 4 straight 0.5 WAR seasons when one season of a healthy Cmart has proven to be 3 WAR or more.

They have been stalling making any announcement about CMart’s role. Maybe they wanted to see how Ponce did today first?

Carlsons first major league dinger. Maybe that’ll get him going.

Maybe Carlson can breathe now. No one knows how he felt inside but whatever pressure was built up may have been released with that swing.

As I heard Mike Shannon say it: Die-lan.

He really does need to retire.

Yadi was going for his 5th hit of the day. I bet he hasn’t ever had 5.

that was a nice win. Hopefully bader and carlson have got some confidence which is always a big part of how guys are gonna do. Great pitching all around. If we can get a couple other guys going, i like our chances. None of these guys are gonna be immune to having a bad game or two here and there so we just need consistentcy up and down the lineup.

Oviedo is said to be the most stretched out pitcher and his last performance was fine, so if you’re replacing Ponce, I vote Oviedo.
