Agreed, 1982. That looked like a great place to build the lead with two runners on, no outs and the top of the order up, but they did not get the job done.
August 23, 2020 at 3:07 pm #136589Ponce again unable to complete an inning and is pulled with two on and two out in the fifth. Cabrera gets out of the jam.
August 23, 2020 at 3:11 pm #136591Ponce will never become an established MLB starter if he can’t go at least five innings. He will just continue to bounce around as an AAAA part time starter/reliever. It is unfortunate because I like him but it is what it is.
August 23, 2020 at 3:14 pm #136593Cards strand two more in the fifth and are clinging to a one-run lead. We have seen this script before and it often does not end well.

Participantwe have left a lot of runs out there.

stlcard25ParticipantPonce will never become an established MLB starter if he can’t go at least five innings. He will just continue to bounce around as an AAAA part time starter/reliever. It is unfortunate because I like him but it is what it is.
I agree. I think he could be a John Gant like reliever and I hope the Cards go that route after this year. Let him go extra innings if needed but there are too many potentially good starters to use him there.
August 23, 2020 at 3:21 pm #136597
stlcard25ParticipantThe Cards are 1-10 with RISP today. That’s a bad recipe and I hope it doesn’t come back to bite us.
August 23, 2020 at 3:22 pm #136598Do you all think it is time to give Gomber another try starting? Woodford? Someone else?
What about CMart? He wants to, but the Cards are concerned about pitch count.
August 23, 2020 at 3:28 pm #136601
stlcard25ParticipantCmart needs to be a starter. IMO if they’re still needing to use kid gloves on him, either trade him or get his necessary surgery over with. There’s no reason to keep playing around letting him have 4 straight 0.5 WAR seasons when one season of a healthy Cmart has proven to be 3 WAR or more.

Participantwell i like woodford and i wouldnt mind gomber getting his chance. ponce didnt pitch bad after that first inning though.
August 23, 2020 at 3:37 pm #136605They have been stalling making any announcement about CMart’s role. Maybe they wanted to see how Ponce did today first?
August 23, 2020 at 3:45 pm #1366071982 willie
Participantgreat at bat there by oneil. We need a flyball by yadi here.
August 23, 2020 at 3:46 pm #136608Yadi makes it 4-2.
August 23, 2020 at 3:47 pm #1366091982 willie
Participantgreat hitting by yadi. He didnt try to do too much.
August 23, 2020 at 3:50 pm #136611Carlsons first major league dinger. Maybe that’ll get him going.
August 23, 2020 at 3:51 pm #1366121982 willie
Participantgreat job dylan. Your first major league dinger
August 23, 2020 at 3:56 pm #136613Maybe Carlson can breathe now. No one knows how he felt inside but whatever pressure was built up may have been released with that swing.
August 23, 2020 at 3:58 pm #136615As I heard Mike Shannon say it: Die-lan.
He really does need to retire.
August 23, 2020 at 4:02 pm #1366171982 willie
ParticipantLet shannon be.
August 23, 2020 at 4:04 pm #136618I like Mike but he does need to retire.
August 23, 2020 at 4:04 pm #1366191982 willie
ParticipantThat was the right call. He obviously was sticking his elbow out there on purpose
August 23, 2020 at 4:16 pm #136620Yadi was going for his 5th hit of the day. I bet he hasn’t ever had 5.
August 23, 2020 at 4:27 pm #1366211982 willie
Participantthat was a nice win. Hopefully bader and carlson have got some confidence which is always a big part of how guys are gonna do. Great pitching all around. If we can get a couple other guys going, i like our chances. None of these guys are gonna be immune to having a bad game or two here and there so we just need consistentcy up and down the lineup.
August 23, 2020 at 4:37 pm #136624Cards win 6-2 to take the series three games to one.
August 23, 2020 at 5:05 pm #136627
jj-cf-stlParticipantOviedo is said to be the most stretched out pitcher and his last performance was fine, so if you’re replacing Ponce, I vote Oviedo.
