February 18, 2019 at 6:10 pm #821722.25-1 Scotty…..same as ours…..though the smart $ has to be on our Birds. The team that has me puzzled is Cincy. That team has the potential to win 88 games…..or lose 98.
February 18, 2019 at 6:13 pm #82173Oh the pennant…….sorry, Scotty….I would put the odds at about 18-1 for the north siders appearing in the ’19 WS. I’d put us at 7-1.
February 18, 2019 at 6:22 pm #82176Yes, 7-1 for Cubs is correct. I added it. Not sure why it was omitted.
March 6, 2019 at 8:06 am #83358Jim Bowden at The Athletic grades the NL Central teams’ off-season:
Cubs C-
Reds B
Brewers B-
Pirates D
Cards A-If only St. Louis had “gone for it”! 😉

March 6, 2019 at 11:16 am #83380I’m glad to see Jimmy B’s grade of A- although he trashed the Cardinals on the radio last Sunday for the Mikolas extension.
Let’s turn that A- into an A+ by signing Kimbrel. That would be the cherry on top for me although I know the chances of it happening are less than 5%.
As for the Cubs I understand why their offseason grade is low. They didn’t have the budget room for big moves and it is harder to improve on a 95 win team than it is a 88 win team.
March 6, 2019 at 2:32 pm #83390Interesting to note that Bowden was NOT critical of the Mikolas contract extension in the article. In fact, he called it a “significant move”. Apparently, he feels strongly both ways… 😉
March 6, 2019 at 3:12 pm #83394You can make a positive move and overpay for it. (Not that that is what I think happened)

ParticipantAs far as projections go, how many players do you think will the Cards use in the OF this season? My guess would be 8. Too High? Remember we have a couple of DL candidates right off the bat and will go with 5 on the 25-man out of ST.
This is not a projection so much as a prediction but I’m sure many have their own thoughts.
March 9, 2019 at 11:29 am #83590I would take the over on 8!
Fowler
Martinez
O’Neill
Bader
Ozuna
Munoz
Robinson
Thomas
GarciaYou also could see someone acquired by trade or an infielder like Gyrko or Wong out there for a few innings.
March 15, 2019 at 10:40 am #83961Fangraphs playoff predictions have the Cards behind the Cubs and ahead of the rest of the division.
Odds to:
Make playoffs 44.4%
Make LDS 35.6%
Win LDS 16.8%
Win LCS 8.1%
Win WS 2.7%March 19, 2019 at 1:31 pm #84203Odds courtesy of BetOnline (www.BetOnline.ag, Twitter: @betonline_ag):

stlcard25ParticipantI would take the over on most of the hitters’ stats except probably Yadi dingers and maybe RBI (not sure what it was supposed to be besides 25.5).
I’d take almost all the pitchers’ under except Flaherty wins.
March 19, 2019 at 3:17 pm #84212I would take the under on Ozuna, Waino, and CMart.
March 19, 2019 at 7:30 pm #84233CrAzY over/under totals! Yadi 25.5 RBI?$?$….bet the ranch on the over. DeJong 76.5 homers?$?$….love the guy, but Barry Bonds he’s not. DeJong 21.5 RBI?$?$……Dal Maxvill he’s not….give me the over.
March 20, 2019 at 4:18 am #84241I’d bet on Flahertys K’s being over, I think he pitches 180+ innings with 225-230 strikeouts. I think he will pitch deeper into games, and has always been durable in the minors.
March 25, 2019 at 8:34 am #84634Latest Bovada line. Do you take over or under on 88.5 wins?
Cardinals o/u win total is at 88.5
For them to make the playoffs:
Yes: -125
No: -105

March 25, 2019 at 11:09 am #84652I will take the over. I have us pegged with 90 wins which should snag us a wild card spot.

However, I expect I will be pulling this out this fall to remind him how far off he was. I think he lost sight of the divisions. I am ok with the 78.5, but the bolded part is crazy talk.
The MLB bets we would make in 2019
Reds over 78.5 wins
The Reds were a bottom-half team in scoring runs and a bottom-third squad in preventing them last season. But the additions of Sonny Gray, Tanner Roark and Alex Wood should bring their pitching closer to the middle of the pack, while the offense should be improved with the acquisitions of Yasiel Puig and Matt Kemp as well as the expectation of a bounce-back year from Joey Votto, a full, healthy year from Jesse Winker and the promotion of prospect Nick Senzel. I would call the Reds one of the most improved teams of the offseason, and I think this is at worst a .500 squad. At best, it will sneak its way into the playoffs. — Tristan Cockcroft

March 27, 2019 at 9:03 am #84769The #stlcards improved from 18/1 to 14/1 to win the World Series from the end of last season until now, according to @betonline_ag. Current 14/1 is same as Cubs, with Brewers at 16/1, Reds at 66/1 and Bucs at 80/1.

March 27, 2019 at 9:29 am #84771To win the NL, #stlcards are 7/1, Cubs 8/1, Brewers 9/1. On top are Dodgers and Phillies, both at 9/2. For NL Central, Cards and Cubs both 2/1, Brewers at 12/5.
