jj-cf-stlParticipantHe was a 145 ops+ vs lefties with a. 368 BAbip. Uncharacteristic.
Hes has raised his numbers vs righties the last 3 seasons. 113, 105 and 111 ops+ for a career 100. That looks sustainable.
December 14, 2018 at 5:50 pm #77582Good data, jj. Perhaps if he is used correctly to maximize his advantage, there is something there.

jj-cf-stlParticipantIf our LHH is the primary PH’r off the bench, I’d want more of a impact bat.
But if you mash righties… I think they call them starters ?
December 14, 2018 at 6:02 pm #77584There you go…

jj-cf-stlParticipantWilmer Flores, DD or neither?
December 17, 2018 at 6:01 pm #77866I missed this at the time. It is from Fangraphs’ top (national) prospect guy.
I like the Drew Robinson/Patrick Wisdom swap for St. Louis. He has huge raw power and can play all over the place. If the bat comes there's a chance he's a regular. Cardinals have quickly gone from a team with virtually no defensive flex to one with a lot of matchup options.

December 17, 2018 at 7:46 pm #77869I really don’t like this deal for a couple reasons:
1) According to their defensive stats in the minors, Wisdom is much steadier with the glove at 3rd, with Robinson having more range and more chances, but Robinson would have made 60 more errors at 3rd with the same innings played.
2) I believe Robinson has one more option left, and Wisdom still has all 3. Even though
In addition, I was impressed with Wisdoms running of the bases in his limited MLB time.
I guess Robinsons athleticism and versatility wins for the FO. And there are quite a few middle infielders at AAA and in St Louis.
December 18, 2018 at 10:57 am #77893#Cubs close to signing free-agent IF Daniel Descalso, source tells The Athletic.

December 18, 2018 at 11:00 am #77894Figured that is who Cards would get, hope they get somebody good cause Robinson is hot garbage
December 18, 2018 at 11:33 am #77899Pretty cheap deal for the Cubs.
Solid inexpensive pickup for #Cubs who sign super utilityman Daniel Descalso. He receives 2-year, $5 million contract per @Ken_Rosenthal. Perfect fit with his versatility and leadership skills and within Cubs’ tight budget

December 18, 2018 at 11:39 am #77902ugh Mo lets Descalso go cheap to the Cards rivals…Keeps showing Cubs GM >>>>> Cards GM!
December 18, 2018 at 11:53 am #77903As I have said multiple times, I hope the Cards aim higher and I am fine with Descalso to the Cubs. Guessing your reaction is not based on looking at any numbers or any others on the market, Onyx. It is not wise to overreact until we see who the Cardinals get instead, but fire away, if you must.
The way I see it, the Cubs lost Daniel Murphy, who is very good, and replaced him with Descalso, who other than 2018 has been a considerably below-average MLB hitter. There is a reason Descalso came cheaply. So in this area, are the Cubs getting better or worse year to year?
December 18, 2018 at 12:26 pm #77906I am fine with not getting Descalso. Signing him would be like getting back with your ex, with less drama, because he doe seem like a good guy. But there was a reason we let him go. I think this isn’t a big priority. Closer, and/or relievers should be looked at first.
December 18, 2018 at 12:58 pm #77907Brian, I am glad that you are finally acknowledging that Daniel Murphy is very good. :o)
December 18, 2018 at 1:01 pm #77909But not blocked… 😉

ParticipantGetting back to Robinson, there’s a piece about him in today’s PD
\
Robinson travels with a third baseman’s glove, a first baseman’s glove, a smaller middle-infield glove and the larger outfield glove.
Adding a catcher’s mitt to that collection would make him an ideal third option behind the plate.
