Oh Oh! Heyward coaxed the leadoff walk from Mikolas. I know the percentage is nowhere near this high, but doesn’t it seem like 85% of leadoff walks evolve into runs?

stlcard25ParticipantMikolas gets snake bitten in the 4th. Happ doubles into the RF corner to cut the lead in half.
July 22, 2018 at 2:44 pm #61413NJ315
Participantand it did
July 22, 2018 at 2:44 pm #61414With 1 out Happ doubles(down the right field line) in Heyward and the Redbird lead had been sliced in half.
July 22, 2018 at 2:45 pm #61415NJ315 in the house….sweet!
July 22, 2018 at 2:47 pm #61416
stlcard25ParticipantI didn’t get a good look at it…was that ball fair or foul? At any rate, a tie game and Quintana’s generous strike zone early is paying dividends for him now.
July 22, 2018 at 2:48 pm #61417Tie ballgame on the Contreras shot just fair down the left field line….a friendly carom to Ozuna prevents the batter from taking up residence at 2nd. 2-2.
July 22, 2018 at 2:49 pm #61418NJ315
Participantstcard25 it was very close. It could have gone either way.
July 22, 2018 at 2:51 pm #61419Sure was close….so close that if we were playing in St. Louis today, that ball is most likely called foul.
July 22, 2018 at 2:56 pm #61420
stlcard25ParticipantDejong gave that one a ride but it didn’t have enough to get out. Happ made a nice play on it.
Ozuna up and it would be really nice if he could be more than a singles hitter in the cleanup spot.
July 22, 2018 at 2:59 pm #61421
stlcard25ParticipantOk, a single would have been better there. Ozuna simply must move out of the #4 spot or start hitting much better.

ParticipantTrouble for Mikolas
July 22, 2018 at 3:04 pm #61424
stlcard25ParticipantMikolas now getting hit. He needs a double play grounder right about now. The Cubs have capitalized on basically their only opportunities while the Cards have left a lot on the bases. That’s the difference in the game so far.
July 22, 2018 at 3:04 pm #61426
stlcard25ParticipantAnd there he gets it!! Still tied going to the 6th.

ParticipantPitcher’s best friend to the rescue.
July 22, 2018 at 3:14 pm #61428
stlcard25ParticipantDexter with a pretty good game so far. Maybe Shildt’s confidence in him will bring out the best in Dex the rest of the year.
July 22, 2018 at 3:15 pm #61429
stlcard25ParticipantI’m going to go ahead and call this a bad decision before anything happens with Gyorko at all. Our bullpen cannot sustain four innings against the Cubs lineup. Mikolas didn’t have a high pitch count either.
July 22, 2018 at 3:17 pm #61432
stlcard25ParticipantYep, as expected. The Cards could theoretically have gotten not one but two more innings from Mikolas. That was a super trigger happy decision from Shildt there and I have to say it was a bad one.
July 22, 2018 at 3:17 pm #61433Wish I still had Mikolas’ hairline…just might lower my wife’s saying “No” ratio a bit.
July 22, 2018 at 3:18 pm #61435NJ315
ParticipantI am going to agree with you. Hopefully the bullpen will prove us wrong. I would love to be wrong.
July 22, 2018 at 3:22 pm #61440NJ315
ParticipantMayers has been good.
July 22, 2018 at 3:22 pm #61441
stlcard25ParticipantMayers has such a good arm. He hasn’t been amazing but he is also one of the guys I actually expect not to stink when he comes in. Can he go multiple innings?
July 22, 2018 at 3:24 pm #61442We have one big problem though gentlemen…… NJ315 and stlcard25 are seldom wrong.
July 22, 2018 at 3:24 pm #61443
stlcard25ParticipantToo much praise, I guess. Schwarber takes Mayers deep to give the Cubs the lead. Repeat of Thursday night?
July 22, 2018 at 3:24 pm #61444NJ315
ParticipantI freaking jinxed him. That’s on me.
