Gyorko airmails what should have been a routine toss about 10 feet over Voit’s head.
June 17, 2018 at 9:59 pm #56867Good to see Carp go yard! Flaherty and Gomber nice outings. The team actually looks like they want to win tonight. Bader tried to stretch it to a double off Schwarber…ill advised, but i’m o.k. with the effort with a 3-0 lead. Color commentators showed dismal stats for Cards bullpen — near last in NL for every major category. If they put Cecil, Bowman, Tui, Mayers out there tonight, I’m going to go ballistic.
June 17, 2018 at 10:00 pm #568696-4-3 Twin killing makes us totally forget the Gyorko error…still 3-0 Good Guys moving along to the bottom of the 8th.
June 17, 2018 at 10:02 pm #568713 more outs to go I wonder with how good Hicks looked if they leave him in
June 17, 2018 at 10:09 pm #56877I was thinking Brebbia should start out another inning (didn’t post it though, but his splits would justify considering it). forsch was thinking Gomber should start another inning. Now jager is thinking along those lines for Hicks…so probably not.
June 17, 2018 at 10:09 pm #56878He wouldn’t miss a beat, Jags.
June 17, 2018 at 10:09 pm #56879Popular media and fan story line: Return of Oquendo will fix the baserunning problems.
Fact: Cards are dead last in MLB with 55 percent stolen base success rate in 2018 (from ESPN telecast).
June 17, 2018 at 10:10 pm #56880Attachment #39 (page 275) of the CBA is a consent form a player must sign for a rehab assignment. In it the player agrees to the number of days of rehab he may be sent on. Since the player has no obligation to even accept the assignment, he can dictate the number of days. It is not necessarily a 0 or 20/30 situation.
June 17, 2018 at 10:13 pm #56881As has been stated by others, there is no D in Schwarber.
June 17, 2018 at 10:14 pm #56882Three pretty fair pen arms you speak of there, Euro. I love Brebbia’s spunk….I love Gomber’s game….and what’s not to love about Hicks. Our pen should be in pretty fair shape with those 3 doing the lion’s share of the work. I just hope inserting Holland into the mix doesn’t taint the batch…..again.
June 17, 2018 at 10:16 pm #56884Appreciate the CBA attachment info, Carioca.
June 17, 2018 at 10:17 pm #56885Thanks for the supporting detail, CC, but it appears BHC has vacated the discussion.
June 17, 2018 at 10:18 pm #56886I keep hoping that Holland finds what he had and the bullpen becomes really strong. Obviously, I am not going to hold me breath for that.
June 17, 2018 at 10:18 pm #56887No D…..but unfortunately there is an H and an R, Brian.
June 17, 2018 at 10:19 pm #56888I don’t mind being wrong. I may pick against them the rest of the way. Seems to work.
June 17, 2018 at 10:23 pm #56889Pugs, Kevin Siegrist knows of what you speak more than anyone. It may have been the single most prominent inflection point in the change of power in the NL Central.
June 17, 2018 at 10:26 pm #56890Nice catch by Almora….but not eye-popping like …..what’s that ESPN announcers name?….was exclaiming.
June 17, 2018 at 10:33 pm #56891Norris pitches for the first time in six days to stay fresh even though it is a non-save situation.
Cards avoid being swept with a solid 5-0 victory. Flaherty gets the win.
June 17, 2018 at 10:34 pm #56892Oh my….remember it all too well, Brian. After Schwarber’s rookie campaign, it really looked like he was going to be a monster. Thank God .230-.250 is going to be his speed average wise. But what a power threat he remains….wish we had just one. Just as TexasCard predicted….5-0 Redbirds your glorious final!
June 17, 2018 at 10:35 pm #56893Didn’t Brebbia get the W, Brian?

ParticipantFolks, I don’t know what kind of career young Flaherty is going to have in the majors, but he showed me something tonight. With his team facing an embarrassing sweep by the Chubbs in St. Louis, the kid pitched out of jam after jam. From the neck up, he is mature beyond his years. Carlos would have blown sky high in any one of those three innings. I also loved seeing that stinking Joe MadCow with a pained look on his face in the dugout. Now We need about a six or seven game winning streak please.
June 17, 2018 at 10:42 pm #56896Well said, wagee!! It’s on to one of my favorite cities in all The world….The City of Brotherly Love.
June 17, 2018 at 10:47 pm #56897Got me again, Pugs. Brebbia with the win.
agee, Flaherty did a great job, but he still has some maturing ahead. A few starts ago, he showed frustration with batters stepping out, which others picked up on. Tonight, he seemed to be rattled a bit with runners on, slowing his pace dramatically, though he escaped all the jams. Clearly a great talent, but still a work in progress. Should get better.
June 18, 2018 at 6:55 am #56901Nice to at least get a win and not get swept at home

ParticipantAs Brian pointed out last night, Oquendo hasn’t helped our running game AND everyone knows that the defense has a lot to be desired. Maybe Oquendo is slipping…. or are the players not listening. Granted, it would take some sort of divine intervention to see the infield D come around to being even moderately acceptable.
