6:35 p.m. LHP Austin Gomber (5-1, 3.78) vs. RHP Aníbal Sánchez (6-5, 3.01) FOX Sports Midwest/ESPN/KMOX
September 17, 2018 at 11:18 pm #69692I wonder if any more reinforcements will come from Memphis after the Redbirds play Tuesday? Our bullpen needs fresh arms, particularly from the left side.
September 17, 2018 at 11:32 pm #69694If we could find one that throws strikes—-do we have one of those in the organization?
September 18, 2018 at 6:42 am #69699PadsFS
ParticipantGomber could use a rebound outing here. Sanchez has been very effective for the Braves this season.

stlcard25ParticipantThis is a big game for the series. If they can win, that sets up Jack for a shot at a sweep. Any losses right now are damaging in the playoff chase. Let’s hope Gomber can shake off his last start.

ParticipantGallegos, Sosa & Williams are the only Redbirds left on the St Louis roster.

ParticipantIs this Gomber’s last start? We have a six-man rotation so moving him to the bullpen would “add” a LH reliever. I like Gant in the rotation and Wainwright deserves another start.
September 18, 2018 at 10:42 am #69740Dakota Hudson looks like he is running on fumes. His last several outings have been a real struggle. Does he have anything left in the tank for the stretch run?
September 18, 2018 at 11:03 am #69743Hudson is typical of what a young pitcher goes through. Initially dominant then they get hit hard in an outing. Then they become defensive, start nibbling and overthrowing. Command goes away.
Takes a while to begin to trust their stuff again. Gomber may be going through the same stage. Gant and Flaherty are past it and are pitching like major leaguers.
September 18, 2018 at 11:35 am #69745Good points Sooner.
September 18, 2018 at 11:42 am #69747Though warming up more frequently as a reliever uses bullets, Hudson threw 152 2/3 innings in 2017 and is currently at 133 2/3 this season.

ParticipantHudson and Weaver both look off. I thought both of them would be dominant bullpen pitchers for the back-half of this season, but they’ve seemed to falter lately, Weaver especially.
September 18, 2018 at 1:09 pm #69755Gomber’s curveball has as much drop to it as Waino’s does. I think he has a very bright future.
September 18, 2018 at 1:25 pm #69757Based on his performance this year, I was ready to retire Wainwright until he shut down LA while looking like he did six or seven years ago. I think you have to give a rookie a little leeway in adjusting to mistakes. They have to work their way through it, and we have no alternatives.
September 18, 2018 at 4:30 pm #69766All four #STLCards bashers from last night in tonight's starting lineup.

September 18, 2018 at 4:43 pm #69772Paging Tyler O
Neill,Paging Tyler ONeill………put out a APB for him.September 18, 2018 at 5:30 pm #69775Is Carpenter ever going to do anything the rest of the year. He’s not done much the last three weeks and as a result isn’t even really in MVP contention anymore. He needs to go on one of his hot streaks the last 11 games and shoulder the load.

September 18, 2018 at 5:35 pm #69776This is one of those games where I do not have the foggiest notion who will win or if it will be a high scoring game or a pitchers duel??? These sort of games many times end up going into extra frames. Go Birds!
September 18, 2018 at 5:59 pm #69777NJ315
ParticipantI also wish it would be O’Neill not Martinez but I will settle with a regular lineup
September 18, 2018 at 6:47 pm #69781
jj-cf-stlParticipantCulberson made difficult look routine
September 18, 2018 at 6:48 pm #69782I hope Gomber can handle Freddie Freeman, he’s the one that concerns me the most.
September 18, 2018 at 7:08 pm #69785
stlcard25ParticipantJust switched over to catch Kolten make a nice play off the bounce to his left to retire the side. Funny because his brother Keon made an error on almost the exact same play in the AAA Championship Game tonight.
September 18, 2018 at 7:14 pm #69787Memphis up 5-0 in the 3rd. Arozorena is crushing their heads or balls.
September 18, 2018 at 7:16 pm #69788Got to make contact on that weak stuff Bader!
