6:05 p.m. RHP John Gant (6-5, 3.34) vs. RHP Tanner Roark (8-14, 4.03) FOX Sports Midwest/MLB Network/KMOX
Tuesday morning update: Tuesday’s original starter, Miles Mikolas, was bumped back a day and will be making this start. Gant will go on Tuesday instead.

stlcard25ParticipantMikolas moving back a day puts him on track to start the opener of the final series in Chicago if the rotation holds. Should be a good chance to win tonight.
September 5, 2018 at 9:20 am #68264man, the poor pen play as of late really seems to be putting a damper on the great play we have been getting…and it shoudlnt…the losses as of late havent been ridiculous just unfortunate…team overall has still been playing well… focus is on the pen figuring it out right now and it shoudl be…but the bats seem relatively stable at the moment and the rotation isnt imploding or losing games for us.. it would be nice to get Jedd and Wong back…but Wisdom and Munoz seem solid enough…
September 5, 2018 at 9:28 am #68268JMart seems to be in a funk. He has still been getting a few hits here and there but it seems that he has really struggled in pressure situations lately and his K rate is way up. It will be interesting to see if Shildt gives him a day off today with tomorrow being an off day and DH duties on the horizon in Detroit. We need to get him going.
September 5, 2018 at 9:42 am #68272Man, what a ridiculous game that was last night. It was one of those you win, but it felt like a loss. We score 11, but also walk 11! You score 11 runs, yet burn through 7 pitchers!
One of those ultimate modern-era games that drives people crazy – walks, a bunch of homers, a bunch of pitching changes, and over 4 hours to complete. The pro-typical example of “what’s wrong with the game today.”
Anyway, lets hope we see a much crisper, well-played contest tonight, and get back on a series winning streak.

ParticipantI’m hoping for Munoz (2B) and Wisdom (3B) with Carpenter at 1B, then Ozuna and O’Neill starting in the OF.
I like Wisdom (especially his defense) over Jose Martinez at 1B and I like O’Neill over Martinez in the OF (especially going against a RH pitcher).
September 5, 2018 at 10:37 am #68284It is truly amazing how nearly every Cards pitchers suddenly has lost the ability to throw strikes.Even Mikolas has had control issues lately. Also this team really misses Kolten Wongs defense.Yesterday was like a early spring training game.Nobody could find the strike zone or play defense and hits where everywhere.
September 5, 2018 at 11:29 am #68287Is Wong back off the DL today? Is he available tonight?
September 5, 2018 at 1:07 pm #68296With Martinez looking bad last night and Wisdom running in to one, my guess is Patrick gets the start and Jose sits.
Once Gyorko gets back we will get settled in again. Meanwhile Wong should be in there any day as well, maybe tonight.
September 5, 2018 at 1:21 pm #68298Yes, Wong is being activated today.
September 5, 2018 at 1:29 pm #68299PadsFS
ParticipantI’ve read that they are keeping him off the field until Friday.
September 5, 2018 at 2:30 pm #68304While Kolten Wong was on the DL, Greg Garcia logged a .325. That is his OPS! I look into today's #stlcards system transactions, including two Memphis moves. (free) https://t.co/t6KBCSWxiz

September 5, 2018 at 2:30 pm #68305It looks like the Yadi batting second experiment is over. I’m kind of disappointed to see it go.
September 5, 2018 at 2:45 pm #68310Moving Molina down seems especially curious since Martinez, who has been swinging and missing at most everything lately, moved up into the #2 spot.
September 5, 2018 at 2:56 pm #68311NJ315
ParticipantI don’t like Adams other than pinch hitting. Leave Carp at first and play Wisdom.
September 5, 2018 at 2:59 pm #68312I agree, NJ.
September 5, 2018 at 3:15 pm #68313Our old buddy Brandon Phillips, just recently called up by the Red Sox, hits a two run homer in the 9th today in Atlanta to give the Red Sox a 9-8 win over the Braves.
Hard to believe its been eight (8) years already that he and Molina got into things in Cincinnati.

September 5, 2018 at 3:51 pm #68314Adams in the lineup again is bad enough, but batting 3rd???
September 5, 2018 at 4:08 pm #68315I don’t get it either. Its like a MM-type move. Makes little, to no sense.
September 5, 2018 at 5:00 pm #68321Against this pitcher and in this spot vs his ex teammates, I love Big City. I’m calling this one 6-3 Good Guys with Big City amassing not one….but two extra base hits.
September 5, 2018 at 5:37 pm #68324With Jmarts funk why isn
t ONeill getting some starts.I say time and time again…ONeill needs to play ...he isnt a Pinch-hitter.September 5, 2018 at 5:49 pm #68325
stlcard25ParticipantEven though I don’t love seeing Adams hitting 3rd either, the book would say he isn’t a bad choice against the righty there.
September 5, 2018 at 6:11 pm #68326
stlcard25ParticipantSo like I was saying, that Matt Adams fella… excellent choice as #3 hitter.
That’s three RBI and two Matts matted in.
September 5, 2018 at 6:13 pm #68327NJ315
ParticipantPugs you rock. The rest of us not so much. Adams with the 3-run bomb!
September 5, 2018 at 6:21 pm #68330I don’t understand what the Cardinals system has against Wisdom. He has hit well the last 2 years and plays good defense at 3B. Yet, when he is called up and the regular 3Bman is hurt, he rarely starts.
