The Rockies didn’t do the Cards a favor last night. Milwaukee plated two runs in the top of the 9th and won at Mile High Stadium by the score of 4-3. The winning run came home on a hit batter. Redbirds remain 6.0 games out.

The Cubs lost at home to Philadelphia 6-4. They are now 12.0 games out and their season is about over.

Brewers acquired starting pitcher Civale from Rays

Civale will be the 16 pitcher to start a game for the Brewers this year. It is honestly impressive they have won as many games as they have with all of their rotation injuries.

Given their history, I fully expect Civale to turn it around and post a 3 something ERA.

If we get the “good” Mikolas, this could very well be a typical 2024 Cardinal game along the lines of a 3-2 final, one way or the other. Jones is tough and won’t make it easy.

And if we get the “bad” Mikolas this will also probably turn out to be a typical ‘24 Redbird tilt, to the tune of 8-1 with the Bucs raising the Jolly Roger.

Don’t forget that the Brewers helped put themselves in this situation by trading away their ace in Burnes, who has been exceptional with the Orioles. They also lost supposedly the best manager in the game, and still lead the division handily. Kudos to them.

The Cardinals are within easy striking distance. I’m sure they remember.

Not sure I agree with “within easy striking distance” at all.

Two months ago, heading into the disastrous series in Milwaukee, now being called the low point of the season, the Cards were six games back of the Brewers. They have made up zero ground on them since.

Sure, the Cardinals have improved in the standings and in win/loss percentage, but the Brewers have kept pace as the rest of the division fell back.

I don’t get to see any of the Brewers games unless they’re playing the Cardinals, but I scoreboard watch and I seem to have noticed that not only have they not blown too many late leads, but have also come back to win several games after falling behind. Obviously, those are tell tale signs of a good baseball team. Whether or not they can sustain those characteristics for the second half remains to be seen. What’s certain is that the Cardinals are going to have to completely turn around the 1-6 record vs. MIL if they’re going to have a decent chance to catch them during the remaining 78 games.

The Crew have really surprised me. They may even be surprising themselves as they gave up Burnes and lost Woodruff for the season. They may have been thinking it was a time to retool.

In fact right now, I think the NLC standings are the exact inverse of what I posted on a thread at the beginning of the year when we did our annual projections. So all posters take note: if wagering based on anything Bike Mike says in the way of a forecast on how things will go, do the exact opposite and you will surely have some extra cash on hand! 😁

The lineup looks pretty much the same as the last game. Except, Crawford is the DH at #7.

I also just happened to notice that the Cardinals are only 2.5 games behind the Braves for the top banana NLWC. Shades of ’11?…I’d have to guess that many Braves fans have to be a bit disapponited in the performance of their team to this point. I thought they had a good chance to run roughshod over the competition in the NLE.

Braves pitching has been a mess of injuries and their best player, Acuna, the unanimous 2023 NL MVP, is hurt. It will be interesting to see how aggressive they will be at the deadline.

I saw an article that claimed the Braves were eyeing Tommy Pham as a deadline addition. The same article refers to Pham as, “White Sox slugger, Tommy Pham.” I’ll bet Tommy saves the article…

If our highly paid veterans pick it up, and we aquire a solid sp and relief help at the deadline, we will roll right past the blowers. We have been winning without any help from those guys. I’m impressed with the young guys who have been getting it done on offense, and the old guys chucking it up to the plate.

If they don’t improve their offense fast they will be back below 500

You are a smart man Mr 1TD. No wonder you are retired and living the dream! Hopefully the insurance on your yacht is not too weighty on your cash flow.

I saw a set of numbers that pointed out that the only two players that have accumulated more RBI’s than Burleson since mid June are named Aaron Judge and Vlad Jr. I’d say Alec’s been going along pretty good.

It looks like a line of thunderstorms is heading towards the Pittsburgh area. Expect a delay in this one. Doubt that it gets postponed though.

I started my 4th celebration by chopping some white onions and adding them to my all beef burrito I made. There will be a price to pay.
