(and Bally Sports South/Southwest)Well, with the new scheduling we get the Dodgers in StL. for a 4 game set. I can’t recall the last time that’s happened, but I’d have to guess that other than a possible rainout makeup game situation, it’d almost have to be as far back as when there were only 4 divisions in the entire Big Leagues. Possibly even earlier than that. At any rate, these 2 elite NL teams have battled each other over 2000 times during the past few seasons, so we ought to know they won’t bring any cupcakes…Dodgers seem to have hit their normal stride, so it won’t be easy to hold the front where it is or hopefully make up some ground in the NLC. On the sunny side, MIL won’t be getting any bargains as they travel to Tampa for 3 games against the team flashing the best W/L record in the Big Leagues and then 3 more in Houston against the reigning WS Champions.
A split series would be a pretty good outcome for the Cards.
Hope not to lose more than a game in the standings to the Brewers….
Last night we benefitted from the Brewers D mishandling a couple balls at just the wrong time for them. A break going our way now and then would be very helpful vs the Dodgers.
The hit in the 1st inning that produced Nado’s 1000th RBI could have possibly been handled and turned into an out with him running, but I think Goldy would have scored from 3B anyway. I did notice what seemed like several marginal 1st pitch strike calls by the HPU that allowed Liberatore to get ahead in the count, which always helps. And obviously a fraction of an inch was the difference that allowed the Redbirds to hold on to a 1-0 lead on the double initially ruled as a HR in the 4th. At any rate, DeJong’s 2 run HR was obviously the difference and should really impact the dollar amount of that forthcoming 5 year extension…Haha!
I believe it was in 2019 that the Dodgers came to Busch very early in the season. And the Redbirds promptly swept all four games.
After my doctors visit to my HOT Nurse Practitioner regarding my insomnia I will head to the Gasthof, the Amish restaurant. Din din will consist of fried chicken, fish, roast beef, mashed potatoes/gravy, noodles, green beans, dressing, sweet tea, and some cherry cobbler and vanilla soft serve ice cream for dessert. Then sit out in the porch area for a 6×50 Palma Real cigar.

You are right, Rats. Just looked it up and the Redbirds swept that 4 game set played in StL. from 4-8 to 4-11 of that ’19 season. I hadn’t at all recalled that, but after your comment and seeing the scheduling from that season it somewhat flashed back into memory. At any rate, we could sure use a repeat performance. I’ll also say that any lack of sleep must be a contributing factor regarding the fact that you don’t miss anything…Haha!
Insomnia huh. My nurse practitioner is a hairy dude so I don’t go in unless I can’t stop the bleeding.
I remember when Urias and Alex Reyes were the two hottest pitching prospects in baseball. One turned out and the other became a bust. Would have been nice to get the best of the deal for a change.

I noticed the same Brian. Maybe they want to keep Noot as the CF going forward and forever. Not good news for Carlson. The Donovan/Gorman makes no sense.
I thought Mercado might play CF too. He’s been in CF mostly in AAA, but also know he’s primarily been a LF in MLB for a few years.
Donovan and Gorman….it’s close. I know a few years back there was the Carpenter and Gyorko argument. They were playing Gyorko at 2B and Carpenter at 3B and I said over and over the best defense was to flip them. Thankfully I think the defense with Gorman and Donovan at 2B and 3B in either spot is significantly better than Gyorko and Carpenter. I don’t know the numbers, and I usually trust my eyes over defensive metrics that have said Marcell Ozuna was a gold glove LF and Jhonny Peralta was a plus defensive SS, but I think Donovan at 3B and Gorman at 2B is probably the better overall defensive lineup. 2B range I think is probably pretty even. They both have strong arms, Gorman maybe slightly stronger. Donovan better at turning the double play. And I trust Donovan’s hands more. Donovan is the better defensive player at both positions, but from what I’ve seen the gap is probably more at 3B, but maybe they are anticipating turning lots of double plays and Donovan is needed to turn them better.
It’s the precise illustration of something placed on paper by a manifest lunatic and not even a stauch advocate of utter anarchy and disorder can disagree…
Although he’s a little younger, my impression of Mercado is that he must be the ’23 OF version of Motter. Might be rough few days.
Both Donovan and Gorman are at their natural positions. I guess I’m not understanding the “makes no sense” discussion.
I don’t have a problem with the Gorman/Donovan placements but I would definitely have Mercado in CF and Noot in RF.
It might be that Noot is going to stay in CF even after Carlson returns. It might also be that Edman will see a lot of time in RF. It does solve the problem of DeJong pushing Edman or Donovan out of the lineup, without having to use the DH slot for that. Mercado will presumably be gone when O’Neill returns, so he is placeholding in LF. What does Dylan do in that scenario? Good question. Some DH if he can outhit the other DH contenders.
Because Gorman should be playing second and only second. Donovan can play 3rd when Arenado is out or at DH. Gorman needs all the time at second because he won’t be playing third regularly. Stop moving him around when there is no need.
Best position to succeed, for both, that’s the managers job. Makes perfect sense to me, so we’re oppo on this one.
But, I also don’t see Gorman as, all the time he can get at 2B. Guess I disagree again. If they both make errors at their natural positions tonight, I’ll be the first to award you your internet atta-boy.
I’ve used the term “natural position” countless times, but I’d have to claim the term is an ambiguous one when it’s applied to a baseball player. At what point in time during a player’s life do you determine where he was positioned on the field for any particular team, game or season, whether it be during his amatuer or professional career, to determine what could be termed his natural position? Just about every player in the Big Leagues was a pitcher for a team at some point during his little league or HS playing days, so would pitcher be his natural position? Dale Murphy came to the Big Leagues as a catcher and we all know about Babe Ruth. Again, I use the term all the time, but it’s a term that probably doesn’t illustrate a clear picture.
