6:45 p.m.
LHP Jordan Montgomery (2-5, 4.11) vs. LHP Wade Miley (3-2, 3.60)
BSM // KMOX // WIJR
(and Bally Sports Southeast/Southwest Extra)May 16, 2023 at 3:55 am #220668There’s about a 90% chance of rain in St. Louis on Tuesday. Not sure what that means. Hope this game gets in since we are on a roll.
May 16, 2023 at 5:16 am #220669Too bad that only counts for one win. We still have the fewest wins and worst win pct in the National League. But in the last two games we have outscored the opposition 27-2. If momentum existed, we would be building it up pretty well.
I’m thinking we should switch back to our good hitting catcher.
May 16, 2023 at 7:30 am #220671Ever the eternal optimist .. I hoping the team has turned the corner, put all this losing behind them and are ready to roll thru the rest if the schedule.
May 16, 2023 at 7:38 am #220672Montgomery certainly deserves some run support. I hope the team gives him 7-8 runs to work with tonight.
May 16, 2023 at 9:37 am #220675With Gorman now atop the NL RBI leaders with 33, he’s establishing himself as a serious threat in his second season in the Big Leagues. He also leads the NL in SLG % and is 2nd in OPS, tied for 5th in HR’s and, although I don’t know precisely what it means, 4th in Adj. batting runs…In any event, teams around the league now know who Nolan Gorman is and not only will they begin to be very careful with him, but will also diligently search for an approach designed to find a weakness in his rip. He’s obviously made some nice adjustments to overcome the struggles that he endured last season and we can be entirely certain that he’ll have to make more of them to continue to be successful. As Timmy McCarver often proclaimed, “Hey, this is the Big Leagues”…
May 16, 2023 at 10:08 am #220676Goldy’s once again putting together an outstanding season and the other day I mentioned that his name is listed among the top 10 NL leaders in almost every conceivable offensive category with the exception of HR’s and RBI’s. He’s 1st in Xtra base hits, 1st in doubles, 2nd in TB’s, 3rd in hits, 4th in BA, 4th in OPS, 8th in runs scored, 10th in OBP and 2nd in what they call, (It sounds good) Offensive-WAR…Once he takes off (And he will) and begins to add to his numbers in the two more glamorous categories consisting of HR’s and RBI’s, he’ll stand a better than decent chance of repeating as the NL MVP award winner if he can maintain his current pace. I genuinely think Paul Goldschmidt and Freddie Freeman are the two best hitters in the NL.
May 16, 2023 at 10:57 am #220679You mean guys CAN improve after their first year?
May 16, 2023 at 11:21 am #220682Make Gorman a left fielder and play him every day.
May 16, 2023 at 11:26 am #220683Last May Gorman was even hotter, batting .387 compared to .333 this May so far. He should push for a PDJ contract now before he unimproves.
May 16, 2023 at 12:09 pm #220685What’s the weather like in the metropolitan St. Louis area today? Has all the rain moved through and it’s smooth sailing for the rest of the day? That’s what the Doppler Radar shows.

jj-cf-stlParticipantGormans K% is almost LG avg now. His BB% is above avg. His hard hit % is 50%, which is crazy with LG avg at 36%.
He is workin the strike zone. His chase rate went from well above, to well below avg. These are adjustments that can provide lasting results.
His BAbip is slightly above avg (+.007), which I’d expect to be higher, as hard as he blisters the ball.
May 16, 2023 at 12:30 pm #220687He undoubtedly entered the picture last season with a nice start before he tapered way off, Bling, but he was nowhere near the consistent threat he’s been so far in ’23. In his first 10 to 12 games or so last season when I first got a look at him, I was really impressed with the manner in which the baseball left his bat. It actually reminded me a little of Lance Berkman. I remember one HR in particular that left the field of play about 25 ft. to the left of dead CF and landed at least a dozen seating rows beyond the wall. The baseball had the type of path and trajectory that you normally see from a rip in which a hitter really turns on and pulls it for a HR just a bit to the fair side of the foul pole. But you’re right in the sense he could very well revert to the struggling hitter we saw once he was around for a little while last season, which was part of what I was driving at in an earlier comment. You and I both know that the rest of the league is hard at work while I key this in trying to figure out how to get Nolan Gorman to revert back to the form in which he struck out at a similar rate to that of bachelor with bad breath…Haha!
May 16, 2023 at 12:31 pm #220688No more rain, Rats.
May 16, 2023 at 12:41 pm #220689Haha!…I had to go back and edit an earlier comment in which I’d mistakenly keyed in “Nolan Ryan” when I meant Nolan Gorman. Probably a subconscious thing because right now it might take a blistering Nolan Ryan fastball to tame the young Redbird…
May 16, 2023 at 1:40 pm #220691We will likely out score Milwaukee in this series, so we need to take at least one more. Would hate to see us lose the series and outscore them by some 10 runs or so. But that is how the season has gone so far – win big and lose close.
May 16, 2023 at 4:26 pm #220699OlliMo is dragging his feet with the lineup.
May 16, 2023 at 4:29 pm #220700May 16, 2023 at 4:30 pm #220701It wasn’t OlliMo, my usual source was asleep at the wheel. Knizner back at catcher. Hmmm.
May 16, 2023 at 4:38 pm #220702And there’s Babe Ruth Gorman vs a lefty starter.
May 16, 2023 at 4:40 pm #220703And more infielders in the outfield than outfielders.
May 16, 2023 at 4:46 pm #220704Again, put Gorman in left and keep him there.
May 16, 2023 at 4:53 pm #220705Carlson being hurt is definitely messing with our lineup and defense. Today has lots of surprises.
I think I would have asked Contreras to play left and put Edman at SS since DeJong is bad against lefties. Then Donovan goes to RF. But at least it isn’t Yepez in the OF.
May 16, 2023 at 5:07 pm #220707After than GS while facing the 3B’man Brosseau, I’m surprised Knizner’s not placed in the 5 slot for tonight’s game…Oh well, we can probably expect another big night from Nado. One thing that’s for certain is MIL won’t be able to work around him with DeJong looming…
May 16, 2023 at 6:06 pm #220708Can we take this game tonight, go for sweep tomorrow against Burnes, and least get another series win!
