The NL is shaping up to be Dodgers vs. Braves.
The AL is shaping up to be Astros vs. Yankees.
Surprises can happen but that would be my guess.I’m hoping for a SD/SEA WS. Maybe MLB will reconsider the post-season format. Why shouldn’t they? Seems like it changes every couple of years anyway.
Well, plenty of good post-season baseball action today, and with the absence of the Cardinals, I’d say the risk of heart failure is drastically reduced. I’ll be hoping all four underdogs put the bite on the the favorites. Don’t really know why, but that’s how I always roll. Maybe I just like to see the little one beat up on the big one. With the baseball drought of yesterday, I tried to stay busy with the first round of battling the leaves falling on my humble estate and then tried watching the OAK/KC football game. No good. The NFL seems to get more mundane and wearisome every year.
I certainly hope the Redbird manager watches all four of these games today and pays close attention. Hopefully he’ll learn something.
Phillies are living a charmed life right now with a 6-1 lead in the 4th at Atlanta. Lots of scratch hits with runners aboard. I noticed Thomson didn’t change a thing with his line-up after the opening round sweep of the Cardinals. I sure hope Marmol’s watching and paying attention.
Yeah, 1 for 15. A little protection in the 5 slot wouldn’t have hurt, but it was moved to the 2 slot. I guess he thought that since Pujols places 2nd on the all-time RBI list he belongs in the 2 slot…
I hope he learns that his two best hitters shouldn’t go 1 for 15.
Wheeler seems to have the Cardinals number for sure. NL Cy Young will be Nola or Alcantara. I hated the matchup so much against Philly because of that. Then when Nola was out there reminding me of Chris Carpenter vs the Phillies in 2011 I knew they were cooked. Musgrove is another guy I’ve liked and he was dealing against the Mets so much Buck was out there pulling some bush league stuff just trying to get into his head because he knew they weren’t touching him.
I was pretty fired up actually. Can’t imagine how I would have been had it been a Cardinals game. If I was Bob Melvin the benches would have cleared and I’d been run, because I’d been in Bucks face telling him how much it was a bush league move and just because my guy is better than your team doesn’t mean he’s cheating. And if I was Musgrove my post game I would have said the ‘only thing I did was take one of Bucks little blue pills and it got my blood pressure up and I was sweating a lot’. I dislike all NY teams of any sport, never had any ill feeling towards Buck really, and rather enjoyed him on MLB Network, but that move was strictly a “we can’t touch this guy I’ve got to get in his head” and that some bull hockey to me.
Cards667…Yeah, I had a hard time believing what I was seeing. It looked like Musgrove was being detained while trying to clear customs in a Central American country. The umps were out there at the mound area for what seemed like a half hour and I was half expecting to see them trot out a handler with a labrador retriever that specialized in the discovery of contraband…Haha!
Manfred’s next change to baseball. Foreign substance sniffing dogs. Instead of the umpire checking then after every inning they bring the dog out to check the pitcher.
Cards667…Yeah, that was nothing like I’ve ever seen. I’m surprised Melvin didn’t entirely spin out of control while the whole charade was unfolding. I can’t imagine how LaRussa would have reacted. The umpires should all be reprimanded for seemingly allowing the inane event to be staged as long as it was. If there was a question, check the baseball and the glove and play the game. I lay blame on the umpires.
Seattle touching up Verlander pretty good and out to a 4-0 lead in the visitor half of the 3rd. All the underdogs seem to be hungry so far. Good!
Philadelphia holds on, survives a three run wanger by Olson in the last of the 9th, and wins 7-6 over Atlanta. Not looking good for the Braves now.
Yeah, this new format may prove to perfectly illustrate how the whiz kids who work the levers that spin up Big League baseball have relegated the 162 game grind of the regular season to a concept that means absolutely nothing. Let’s play some ice hockey!
Love the playoff baseball because it features October day games.
Man, would have like to see Seattle hang on and win game one. Also makes me wish our club could generate offense like those two teams.
I am okay with the format. The long season is not for nothing. You still play all year to get to get a chance to participate in a tournament. It’s just that you play several series now instead of one, or at least you hope to play several series.
Probably not going to watch much post season ball now but will try to watch the Yankees when I can. Hopefully my boy bader makes some good plays in center.
