Here’s a little context for the degree of difficulty of the Brewers overtaking the Cards for the division or the Cards overtaking both the Mets and Braves for the #2 seed.
If the Cards play sub .500 the rest of the way at 10-11, then the Brewers would have to go 19-2 to pass them. As for the tiebreaker, the Cards are up head-to-head 8-7 with 4 to go. The remaining schedule for the Cards includes 10 games against the Reds/Pirates, so it’s favorable.
Likewise, if both the Braves and Mets both go near .500 (11-11 for Braves and 10-11 for Mets), Cards will need to go 17-4 to get the #2 seed (Cards must surpass both teams because they lose the tiebreakers). Braves and Mets also have what I think are favorable schedules.
As a side note……the Friday night game with Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium on Sept 23rd is the Apple TV game. It’s my understanding it won’t be on BSMW, MLB, etc.

Thanks for the heads up. As Apple TV access is free, this gives folks more time to figure out how to get it on their device of choice.
BW…Haha! “Device of choice.” My choice would be a simple TV set, but this entire streaming thing is a monumental pain in the backside. Like a fool, I once attempted to jump through all of the hoops required by these no good so and so’s who hi-jack Redbird games. E-mail accounts, cell ph#’s, secret handshake code verifications, entering bank-card or credit-card info, etc…Way too many monkey shines involved and I genuinely hope that if any of these people who are responsible for all of the nonsense ever attend a baseball game that a screaming line drive foul ball hit them flush where the sun never shines…I’m fortunate to be situated less than 2 miles from where my son lives, so I’ll simply get in the truck and take a ride to his house to watch the Redbird/Dodger game this Fri. Who the heck wants to be subjected to a defacto hassle? Not me. If I did, I’d schedule some quality time with Apple or an audit with the IRS…Haha!
GameCard…An Apple “device” isn’t required, but as you well know, circumventing all of the nonsense required to get the game on any device is not at all unlike attempting to solve advanced equations associated with Chinese arithmetic…
You get a free Apple user id. You use it to log on and then select the game. That is it.
I’d rather it not be necessary, but it is not onerous.
BW…Yeah, it’s monetarily “free” alright. But it’s certainly not headache free. And when I attempted to play along a couple of months ago, they wanted a bank-card or credit card info. Then you have to receive the “user ID code” via an email or smart phone, set up a password, etc. I also seem to recall that I succumbed to all of the nonsense and hit a wrong key or something along those lines and had to begin the process all over again. Ain’t worth it.
Ah, remember the days when all that was required was an on-off switch and a channel selector (the old fart’s lament)?
All this newfangled technology was supposed to make our lives easier!

I remember watching a TV science program in the 60s touting the future impact of automation & technology making life easier, claiming that the 40-hour work week would become obsolete. I worked in IT/computer/networking in the Air Force in the 80s/90s and we often had to work 60 hours to meet all of our system release deadlines. We often wondered where things went wrong.
CardFrance…Haha…I’m sure you remember when the “channel selecter” was your wrist, thumb and index finger. And oh…It’s never been easy and never will be. Not at all unlike the last out in a tight ballgame.
Another memory related to the “channel selector”…I recall my dad losing his mind and threatening my younger brother and myself with homocide as we rapidly flipped the TV channel dial so fast it sounded like a machine gun as it cycled back and forth as we were looking for something to watch. He was scared to death we were going to destroy the Admiral color TV in the family room. He didn’t like that! I can remember a visit or two from the TV repairman in those days. Those guys are all gone too.
EuroDandy…Haha! Well, they were spot on regarding the 40 hr. work week becoming obsolete. Both the husband and wife almost always work at least 40 hrs. a week, which adds up to at least 80 hrs. of work a week to make ends meet these days.
And on another side note……I wonder how Alberts ex-wife is doing? Didn’t she have some kind of brain surgery earlier this year?
Cubbies beat the Mets 5-2, and ATL’s losing to SF 2-0 in the 4th. Might make some money while we sleep.
Lots of anticipation regarding the Great Pujols reaching the 700 HR plateau, but I just now noticed something. Albert needs 16 more RBI’s to catch and tie Babe Ruth for 2nd place on the all-time RBI leaders. He’d possibly need a GS thrown in there and a couple of 3 run taters, but I’d say with 21 games remaining, it’s attainable. I certainly wouldn’t be foolish enough to count out one of the greatest sluggers of all time. Rather than surpassing The Bambino, I think I’d prefer to see him end up tied with Ruth. Pujols/Ruth has a nice ring to it…
This is an important series, but probably more important for Milwaukee. If the Cards win both games, it all but seals the Central up. If the Brewers win both, we probably start to sweat a little. If it’s a split, then the magic number drops by two and we are probably satisfied with that, especially with Burnes going.
Tonight’s “starter” for Milwaukee is Matt Bush, who has not started this year. It will be a bullpen game, so hopefully our offense can take advantage. This is where I wish we had more than 28 on the roster cause with the minors depth, it would really let us play matchups with the Brewer bullpen.
stlcard25…It sure is and the Brewers are going to be playing it as though the life of their first born child hangs in the balance. Cardinals can’t afford to give them any air by allowing them to win both games. A split would be okay, but if the Redbirds can take both games of the series it would be the proverbial death knell for MIL.
